Does anyone want to read The Hobbit and LotR as a group read? Lots of groups do group reads, and since this is a LotR fan club, I thought it sounded like fun. Any thoughts?

Yes! That is a very good idea.
We should do The Similarion, or The Children of Húrin, something to change it up a little, and something that the members may not have read by J.R.R. Tolkien.

I would, but I'm currently reading other books right now. Of course The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are great, but I usually don't read the same books twice. At least, not in a row.
The Silmarillion would be a great idea, Lote ... though I don't think I'd be able to read it as fast as you lot, so we might have to read it over a longer amount of time :) But great suggestion, L.Y.! :D

It is certainly optional. Not everyone has to participate. It's only if you want to.

Thanks! :DI'm glad everyone seems to like the idea. And I don't see why we'd make it required, lol. It wouldn't be as much fun if we had to. xD
I don't have The Children of Húrin, but I would enjoy reading The Silmarillion again. The last time I read it, I was sick, so half of it has disappeared into the fog that my mind was at the time, and I can't find it. xD

Aw, lol.
I'm reading The book of Lost Tales right now, it's a pretty good read, but I'm disappointed that hobbits aren't in it. I guess I could get through it, I just love hobbits so it's going to be hard to get through.

mountainmist wrote: "Nope! First time reading it!! :)"You'll enjoy it :) I know I did. Let us know your thoughts about it when you're done
mountainmist wrote: "Yup! Can't wait for the other two to come out!!"Same here :) What was your favorite part?
Oh, my goodness! Did either of you watch the production videos/video blogs? You can see sneak peeks of Mirkwood. :D
The whole movie! I can't pick a favourite part!! I did rather like them singing though! ;)What about you?

If you get the two-disc DVD, you can see all ten. :D Did you see the one with Beorn's house and the set for Dale?

I really like the scene where the dwarves are introduced, but the whole movie is great
mountainmist wrote: "O.o I just watched a bit with Beorn's house!"It looks amazing. :D Can't wait to see it. Maybe I can go to the midnight premier of the second one...missed it on the first, lol.
I missed it too! My dad thinks I'm crazy by reading Lord of the Rings!! He thinks I have to read them for school!
I know some people who look at me weird or think that I only read them because I have to when I tell them I enjoy reading especially reading J.R.R. Tolkien's books. I just ignore that because they're awesome

Did any of you buy the Blue-ray edition? Apparently you get a preview for the Desolation of Smaug - my friend showed me some snapshots of it and I died ... I'm so excited! :D
Lótë (Iris) wrote: "You mean the Blue-ray of Lord of the Rings? If so, I've only seen the DVD versions."
Sorry for not being clear xD I meant The Hobbit :)
You're fine :)
Oh, all right. No, I haven't seen the Blue-ray version. I don't have a Blue-ray player :(

I'm too old fashioned."
Haha!
I own a blu ray player :D My sister bought it as a present for the whole family. When I get the extended editons I'll be sure to play them on there.
Yep :) I love how the action, sound quality and picture quality are more improved with blu ray. It certainly makes all the difference.
Lótë (Iris) wrote: "And they have all The Lord of the Rings on Blue-ray?"Are you talking about my family owning them
Lótë (Iris) wrote: "No, I mean do they sell them on Blue-ray? :)"Oh, ha ha! Okay. Yes, they do still sell all of them on blu-ray.
Oh ok. I was just wondering since they are older movies. I wasn't sure if they just made Blue-ray discs or whatever they come on (Pardon me, I don't know much about Blue-rays) for just newer movies or what. I understand now.
See, I only have a DVD player, and that's what I use to watch all my movies on. I've had it for years, and I'm so used to it that I don't think about using all these newer gadgets and stuff.
But Blue-rays sound really interesting.
