L.Y. Levand (lylevand) | 208 comments Does anyone want to read The Hobbit and LotR as a group read? Lots of groups do group reads, and since this is a LotR fan club, I thought it sounded like fun. Any thoughts?

Yes! That is a very good idea.
We should do The Similarion, or The Children of Húrin, something to change it up a little, and something that the members may not have read by J.R.R. Tolkien.

brooke1994 (formerlynarnian525) | 286 comments I would, but I'm currently reading other books right now. Of course The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are great, but I usually don't read the same books twice. At least, not in a row.

That's fine, Narnian :)
It's just a suggestion for now.

message 5: by johanna (jo) (new)

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) The Silmarillion would be a great idea, Lote ... though I don't think I'd be able to read it as fast as you lot, so we might have to read it over a longer amount of time :) But great suggestion, L.Y.! :D

message 6: by Riley (new)

Riley (DawnFire108) | 31 comments Reading the similarion is a good idea. but i would say that the group reading is optional.

message 7: by johanna (jo) (new)

johanna (jo) (johannad_m) True ^ Some members might not want to.

It is certainly optional. Not everyone has to participate. It's only if you want to.

message 9: by L.Y. (new)

L.Y. Levand (lylevand) | 208 comments Thanks! :D

I'm glad everyone seems to like the idea. And I don't see why we'd make it required, lol. It wouldn't be as much fun if we had to. xD

I don't have The Children of Húrin, but I would enjoy reading The Silmarillion again. The last time I read it, I was sick, so half of it has disappeared into the fog that my mind was at the time, and I can't find it. xD

brooke1994 (formerlynarnian525) | 286 comments I'm reading The book of Lost Tales right now, it's a pretty good read, but I'm disappointed that hobbits aren't in it. I guess I could get through it, I just love hobbits so it's going to be hard to get through.

Rachel (hopeless-wanderer) The whole movie! I can't pick a favourite part!! I did rather like them singing though! ;)

If you get the two-disc DVD, you can see all ten. :D Did you see the one with Beorn's house and the set for Dale?

message 28: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hopeless-wanderer) *gasps* no!! I've got to find that one!

I really like the scene where the dwarves are introduced, but the whole movie is great

message 30: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hopeless-wanderer) O.o I just watched a bit with Beorn's house!

It looks amazing. :D Can't wait to see it. Maybe I can go to the midnight premier of the second one...missed it on the first, lol.

message 32: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (hopeless-wanderer) I missed it too! My dad thinks I'm crazy by reading Lord of the Rings!! He thinks I have to read them for school!

message 33: by brooke1994 (new)

brooke1994 (formerlynarnian525) | 286 comments I know some people who look at me weird or think that I only read them because I have to when I tell them I enjoy reading especially reading J.R.R. Tolkien's books. I just ignore that because they're awesome

Did any of you buy the Blue-ray edition? Apparently you get a preview for the Desolation of Smaug - my friend showed me some snapshots of it and I died ... I'm so excited! :D

If so, I've only seen the DVD versions.

Oh ok. I was just wondering since they are older movies. I wasn't sure if they just made Blue-ray discs or whatever they come on (Pardon me, I don't know much about Blue-rays) for just newer movies or what. I understand now.
See, I only have a DVD player, and that's what I use to watch all my movies on. I've had it for years, and I'm so used to it that I don't think about using all these newer gadgets and stuff.
But Blue-rays sound really interesting.

message 50: by brooke1994 (new)

brooke1994 (formerlynarnian525) | 286 comments They are. I've looked into a lot of movie and t.v show stores lately, and almost every movie is available on blu ray now. I'm looking to own The Lion King on blu ray.
