Bill | 192 comments Starting off a new month with one of the longest holdouts on my "To Read" shelf. The Quiet American was either checked out or incorrectly shelved at the library today, so had to browse til I found Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese

Overall Cutting for Stonewas an enjoyable book. However, don't be rushed reading this. The pace is very slow and I've discovered this with books set in Africa. Verghese puts a lot into this book so you pretty much have the whole story rather than one person's view.

I'm about to finish Jitterbug Perfume. It was recommended to me by a guy I like. It is different from what I normally read.

I kind of knew that before I started reading it. Most times I'll check out several books at a time from the library. But this one I'm going to devote time to. I'm about 100 pages in.

Bill | 192 comments While browsing in the library I came across Leave Myself Behind by Bart Yates . I enjoyed one of the author's other works, so I'll give it a shot.

Bill | 192 comments I finished Leave Myself Behind and enjoyed it very much. I probably should have saved it for reading this holiday weekend, but I couldn't wait.
Next up is On Saudi Arabia Its People, Past, Religion, Fault Lines - and Future by Karen Elliott House , about a place I've been curious about for some time

Mike (mikekeating) I just finished Firstborn & Defending Elysium by Brandon Sanderson today. It was a very fast read of two novelettes together in what the book industry calls "head to toe". Both stories are upside-down to each other, and there is no back cover... just two front covers. It was something that Brandon Sanderson is selling as an exclusive at conventions he goes to in 2013, and I bought it at JordanCon in Atlanta last month. Now I'm onto the second book in his Mistborn series. The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2) by Brandon Sanderson

I just finshed a book on Thomas Jefferson. I'm currently reading the Turner Diaries and Thirteen Resons Why.
