Kathy G. | 1931 comments I love the rain---
And summer rains are fun-
Read a book with rain or clouds on the cover.

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments usually summers in the Mid west are green and gold and we have lots of blue sky. Pick a book with a 50% or better green, gold, or blue cover.

Marscha (mysterymb) | 429 comments Read the season: read a book with the word "summer" in the title.

Listopia list for books with summer in the title: http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/12...

Samantha McNulty School's out! Read a book set in a school setting.

Kate S When I hear the word 'tortoise', one of my first thoughts is of Owen and Mzee: The True Story of a Remarkable Friendship. This is a very cute little story.

In honor of Owen and Mzee, read a book about friendship.

Or
Read a book set in Kenya

Or
Read a book anout a May-December romance/friendship

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments I just saw this on the GR blog and it looked cool - http://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/41...

read a book by an author that contributed to the short story (there are 12 of them and many have multiple books) or read a book from the shelf of one of the GR members who commented underneath (and we could continue the story if we wanted to)

Kathy G. | 1931 comments Dee- You made me think of blogs.
How about if we read a book that has a review on a blog and we have to give the link for the blog.
(Neat way to get some links to new book blogs!)

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments I remember doing a similar one like my first season - but it was fun

message 109: by D.G. (new)

D.G. Read a book that's a group read in one of the groups you belong to.

Dee (austhokie) | 8947 comments I thought of another one - I know we did an author's influences a couple of seasons ago - what about one with authors they thank in acknowledgements...

so for example read a book by Ruthie Knox (I just finished one of hers) and in her acknowledges she mentions like 10 different authors, so read a book by one of them

Oh, I like this!

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments I've spent the last five years volunteering at one of the local schools, reading aloud to First Graders (and having them read aloud to me). Go to the GR Genres--Read Aloud. Pick a book of 300+ pages and read it.

OPTIONAL: Read it aloud to someone(s).

Kathy G. | 1931 comments Once we had a task where you had to read
a book somewhere other than your home---
at a library, in the park, at the doctor's
office, at work. :-)
Or, even outside would work. Just not
in your house.
I would guess that listening to a CD in
the car would be another place to "read."

message 114: by Marie-Anne (new)

Marie-Anne | 950 comments The most summer fun for me is to travel. When we travel, we like to explore as many archaeological sites as we can. After all, we met in Cairo, Egypt.
For this task, read 2 books, from different options, that takes place at an archaeological or "old" historical site
a) on the American continent
b) on the European continent
c) of the Asian continent
d) on the African continent

message 115: by Janice (new)

Janice | 713 comments Tortoises live an average of 100 years. Read a book featuring an elder as the main protagonist or a book written by an older author.

Here's two lists of options for the former:

http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/19...
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/64...

The latter may take a bit more research, but there are some great books written by older adults. For example, this season, I read a book written by Rodney Dangerfield when he was 82 and Brenda Ashford when she was 92. Both were great reads.

message 116: by Marty (new)

Marty (martymill) | 219 comments Another idea, if it's not too late to suggest: This year is the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. You could do tasks based on the different skirmishes (Little Round Top, Devil's Den, Pickett's Charge, etc.) or the famous military men involved (Robert E. Lee, Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, James Longstreet, George Meade). Also could do something relating to Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels or his son Jeff Shaara's civil war books.
