What Else Are You Reading? May 2013
Finished up White Night. I may have a new favorite supporting (humanoid) character. My Dresden Files marathon will continue with Small Favor.
I'm interspersing my listening of 2312 with The Player of Games. I thought it would be less confusing, but it's not.On my Nook, I'm reading The Emperor's Soul and Beautiful Ruins.
I'm reading The Giver for my Services for Older Adults class. I haven't read it since 4th or 5th grade but I'm loving it just as much the second time around. I hardly remember any of the details.
Finished Paladin of Souls and now reading A Kingdom Besieged. This is supposedly the last Midkemmia serie by Feist. So far it isn't so bad ( better than some of his recent books)
I'm a little over halfway through A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin and about the same with Jasmine by Bharati Mukherjee. Soon as I finish something its on to Only Human by Gareth Roberts which I've really been looking forward to. [:
Igor wrote: "Earlier today I picked up The Rithmatist by Sanderson for Kindle, can't wait to start reading it!"I'm picking up that one at a signing on Friday.
I finished Wool and am almost done with Kushiel's Dart. I'll start John Dies at the End and a Martin van Buren bio.
Finished Erin Hoffman's Shield of Sea and Space -- I highly recommend the entire trilogy, especially if you're after high-magic fantasy -- and went back to a classic with Fritz Leiber's Swords and Deviltry.
Finished Wool Omnibus and loved it. Minutes away from finishing listening to NOS4A2 which I enjoyed very much. Now going thru the thread for my next reads. Debating which format I want to consume The Rithmatist which will be one of them.
I finished Wool Omnibus and The Eye of the World.Enjoyed both greatly!
I started The Great Hunt as audiobook, The Invisible Man because I had it, Engle og Dæmoner (Angels and Demons), which I'm almost done with. A store nearby had all of Dan Brown's books on sale for 8,5 dollars in 2013 hardback edition - quite a bargain if you ask me :d

I haven't read it yet (plan to this weekend), but I'd go physical or ebook simply because there are a bunch of illustrations. They aren't high art or anything, more like something a kid would draw (which is what I think they are going for). I'm not sure how important to the story it will be, but that's something you'd miss if you went audio.
The audio is read by Michael Kramer however.

Looking at The Rithmatist on audible, it's stated: "PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying reference material will be available in your My Library section along with the audio." So we'd be getting the illustrations it seems, but due to this I'm going ebook on it to get them though. I'm wondering the quality in the kindle/iBooks version. Anyone have this version yet and can comment?
And yes it's Michael Kramer narrating the audiobook. That man can tell some story.
Finished my audio re-read of The Dark Tower (My Review).
I'm now embarking on another audio re-read, this time of The Dresden Files with Storm Front

Memoria. A Corporation of Lies By Alex BoblInteresting and technologically plausible tale of corporate totalitarianism. I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far,
With Audible's 4.95 1st of series sale, I picked up Theft of Swords. Liking it so far. And I went with the Kindle version of The Rithmatist
I read Angelmaker by Nick Harkaway. Fun romp, included contemporary London, spy and steampunk sensibility, gangster fantasy and clockwork. I bought a bee pendant yesterday just because.
I have been going retro for a while. So much modern stuff just does not appeal. So I decided to read Beowulf's Children by Larry Niven which I had never read but it has probably been 20 years since I read Legacy of Heorot so I had to go back and read that again. Nearly finished with BC. I am on a Niven kick now. I'll do World of the Ptavvs next.
I was going to ask whether you'd read Dragons of Heorot too as I thought it was a trilogy but I see now that that was just the UK name for Beowulf's Children :)I recently re-read The World Of Ptavvs and enjoyed it. My favourite Niven is A World Out of Time

I will be taking a long road trip with the family and I am wonderering if any one can recomend some good books to listen to while on the road, family enjoys both scifi and fantasy and everything in between, if read by Wil Wheaton would be a plus (fuzzy nation and ready player one have been loved by the entire family). thanks.
I read The Rithmatist in a day, enjoyed it, but it won't be for everyone. (Full Review).
I also finished Storm Front (My Review) on my drive into work this morning and have already moved on to Fool Moon with my audio re-read.

Managed to finish Sandworms Of Dune without trying to cut my own throat with a spoon (barely). Just starting my re-read of the renegade read The Player of Games. Going back to a classic on audio with Treasure Island and The Hindenburg Murders, by Max Allen Collins as my kindle/alternative read.
Ivan wrote: "I will be taking a long road trip with the family and I am wonderering if any one can recomend some good books to listen to while on the road, family enjoys both scifi and fantasy and everything in..."Redshirtsis the obvious choice here. John Scalzi read by Wil Wheaton :)
AndrewP wrote: "Managed to finish Sandworms Of Dune without trying to cut my own throat with a spoon (barely)."After a similar narrow escape I've come to the conclusion that, like Highlander sequels, non-Frank Herbert Dune books simply do not exist.
I have just under 100 pages left in Buddenbrooks. Hopefully I will complete it today. Then it's back to Part 3 of Wool.
I'm reading Sea Change by S.M. Wheeler, which I got from NetGalley. It seems to be a kraken love story, not sure what to think.
currently reading Libriomancer finally was able to get it, so far not too bad. I did just finish 1632 an Alt-History where a West Virgina Coal town gets thrown back to the Thirty-year's War
Jenny wrote: "I'm reading Sea Change by S.M. Wheeler, which I got from NetGalley. It seems to be a kraken love story, not sure what to think."I've seen anime like that.
Jenny wrote: "I'm reading Sea Change by S.M. Wheeler, which I got from NetGalley. It seems to be a kraken love story, not sure what to think."As you like Jane Austen then perhaps Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters is for you too :)
Finished Swords Against Death and left Lankhmar, the City of Sevenscore Thousand Smokes, for a cheesy but entertaining thriller set in an underground Soviet city, Pandemonium by Warren Fahy.

I swore to never read such things, and then was trapped on a cruise ship by fog for three days and ended up reading Pride and Prejudice and Zombies... it was better than I thought it would be. I kind of liked the explanation of the REAL reason Elizabeth didn't get married.. because married women have to stop fighting zombies, and she was a master! Now that's feminism for you.
I just finished Discount Armageddon and enjoyed it. Starting in on Leviathan by Scott Westerfield today.
Finished The Two Towers. Now to finish LOTR out with Return of the King. Hope to have it done by the time Abaddon's Gate comes out.
Finished The Daylight War Demon Cycle 3My review http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Starting Robin Hobb's The Mad Ship Liveship Traders 2
Finished Pandemonium and am going to someplace long ago in a galaxy far, far away with Tim Lebbon's Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi - Into the Void.
I've finished Wool Omnibus and have started The Road. Once I'm done with that book, I'm going to start on Nocturnal. Its been ages since I've read, so I'm making up for it now!
I'm not sure I will be able to finish Wool on time, since I only got it from my library on the 23 :/. I did finish Dark Places, Where'd You Go, Bernadette, Gone Girl and The Buddha in the Attic. For the first 2 I finished my reviews and you can find them on my blog, but I'm a but behind for the other 2.
I swear I posted in this thread about trying to catch up on the Septimus Heap books. I'm currently reading Queste; I will request the last two from the library at a later date.I've finished Wool Omnibus and Poison Princess (for those who, like me, are members of the Vaginal Fantasy Book Club as well). I am now quite enjoying Shadow's Claim.
All this in addition to work, 3 knitting projects, and trying to get a costume together for Steampunk L.A. (Los Angeles, not Louisiana).
Tamahome wrote: "It's a little annoying that the Nos4a2 ebook doesn't have the illustrations that the print book has. It would probably look nice on the kindle fire."It's very annoying. I haven't even wanted to read the book since buying it, out of disappointment.
I finished The Six-Gun Tarot which is a weird western fantasy. For a first novel it's not bad. I wasn't ready for twenty different POVs though.Next up is a YA fantasy Chantress. Which has a pretty cover.

Recently I finished Grimoire of the Lamb an Iron Druid novella and enjoyed that. Also read Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigan was funny. The Devil You Know was just good didn't feel a need to get more in the series. Also got the latest David Sedaris which was pretty humorous.
