Which contemporary authors are the best at writing dialogue? What makes their dialogue so compelling?

Article of the Week:

From Serviceable to Memorable: 5 Principles for Dialogue That Delivers

Thomas Cardin | 10 comments I just finished writing a scene in my WIP where pages of dialogue spilled out between one of the main protagonists and another character. To break things up from being just two talking heads they now walk through the city while they are talking. This keeps things visually moving. They smell fresh bread from a bakery as they walk by, and hungry belly's rumble. I don't want the world to seem to come to a stop while conversations occur.

I like having meaty conversations as well, where characters discuss issues larger than themselves.

Greaty article. I took a lot from it.

Thanks for sharing, Thomas. I agree that having your characters do something while exchanging dialogue breaks up the monotony nicely.
