Lucy | 2 comments Potential SPOILERS:

I only joined a couple weeks ago, so this is my first comment. I actually just read Ghost World, as I saw it on the optional reading list for this group so it gave me the push to finally get it. I'm still not sure wether I liked it or not. Sure, it touched on many issues faced by teenagers and their pursuit of identity. I'm feel it perhaps needed more direction, I was left expecting more by the end. It seemed to finish abruptly. It was certainly amusing and funny in parts and the observational commentary of the two main characters of the people around them, though harsh, is perhaps an interesting portrayal of the way some people can judge others by appearances. I'd be interested to hear what others think?

Karen Roman I'm about halfway through this one, and I am liking it just fine. I'm pretty sure I am not at risk of becoming a slavering Ghost World fan-girl, but still, I'm enjoying it enough that I will be happy for time spent reading it.

Lucy | 2 comments Karen: I am also glad I read it. Something I did not consider in my first comment is that it was originally serialised in a comic book. So it is a combination of stories. In that respect it left me wanting more. I'd be interested to know what you think once finished.

Cyndi (bookchick64) I have to admit to being a Clowes snob. Ghost World is pretty fab, however I confess to favoring David Boring by Daniel Clowes . I enjoy visiting Clowes' surreal characters and the world they live. Good choice.

Peter | 150 comments I really dug this book. It was the first Daniel Clowes I've read.
It was a good slice of life, character study of these two girls. Great characters! They seemed very real, like I've known people like them. Kind of a melancholy feeling to much of the book, but really funny at times as well.
Really excelled at capturing the vapid, soul-less suburban wasteland, and these aimless teenagers growing up in it.
I'm going to have to read more of his books.
