In this archaic land, where women are held in high esteem, and men their equal counterparts, a philantropic, altruistic king, and his stately, lovely, austere queen reign in equal measure. But, a great evil is brewing in the lands to the far west (here's where the real magic comes in). The deadly nemesis of the kingdom is preparing to wage war, aided by a select number of Dark sorcerers, wizards, and magicians (maga, enchantrix, whatever you prefer). The benevolent king, acknowledging this danger, turns to his court wizards for help, only to discover that they are ersatz frauds. After feeling helpless, the king seeks to hire a group of genuine magicians for his army, and, in addition to doing so, a privileged force of loyal, gifted soldiers too. The rumor spreads that the king is willing to pay his soldiers thrice the original amount, but that they must prove themselves. Will you?
As the threat increases in danger, the good people of London are beginning to fear that the end is nigh, and are evacuating the city in droves, leaving but a few courageous souls (about 3,000 people, but that, compared to the normal population, is minute) to stand their ground, and to defend their fair city. Once maligned mercenaries and assassins are hired to spy on the enemies' doings, while both men and women alike are preparing war efforts: provisions, weapons, fortified safehavens, and the like. As the most valiant men and women train for the worst, a messenger brings word of the kingdom's nemesis' well-trained lieutenants and officials, who are also readying for a clash of epic proportions (if you would like to create a dark character, go right ahead. They can't all be good people, can they, now?).
