Trying to continue writing my book. Ugh, I have only finished one chapter. I don't understand how a person gets to be a goodreads author. Do you know how it works?

E.B. Hood (melabeth) It is not hard not to change your status to author. If I were you I would finish your first book, then worry about all the marketing. In the world we live in, it is changing almost daily, so just concentrate on your book first.

Okay. I am a perfectionist so I am quite hard on myself and constantly discouraged that my book is good enough.

Not sure what to tell you, because all writers do a little different. Here's what I do, maybe it will help. First I write, I mean spell check going off like crazy and I don't care, I need to get the story out of my head. Then I go back through it one time, fix the spelling and rework the story. Then I let it rest and go on to the next story. When I finish writing the whole book, I will go through it one more time, the last re-write and off to the finial edit. It like working with clay, if you work it to much it hardness. Also I do not write my book in order, I story board and that really helps keep things moving. I hoped this helped.
