Okay I started today, don't remember what chapter I'm on but I know I read through the events of the second episode lol. It struck me how young all the characters are supposed to be! Dany is FOURTEEN?! And her brother is still selling her off to Khal Drogo???!!!!

I think I'll try to go by page or percentage. There's no chapter numbers lol. But yes I was surprised too! Up to 108: (view spoiler)[ There's sooo much detail and world building. I mean it's good but I can see why they made this into a TV show. I still can't get over the fact that this happening when Dany was 13. I like that I'm seeing the characters in a new light. Some things that couldn't be portrayed in the TV show like how Dany was feeling at her wedding. How she felt so alone and kept telling herself who she was. (hide spoiler)]

I started the book last night and read part of the book today and I have some updates and thoughts that I marked in my book:

Prologue-Chapter 4 updates

Prologue: (view spoiler)[The prologue was pretty good and really set up the story. This book definitely needed the prologue and the book would have been a bit more confusing without it. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 1: (view spoiler)[In chapter 1 it really focused on the execution and a little bit on the direwolf. It was good that Jon convinced Ned's men not to kill the pups. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 2: (view spoiler)[I don't really have too much to say on chapter 2, but it was well written despite the fact that it wasn't my favorite chapter. (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 3: (view spoiler)[I liked chapter 3. It reminded me vaguely of The Chinese Cinderella with someone being chosen to marry someone In this book, Viserys' sister Daenerys. Viserys was getting Daenerys ready for a dinner/feast thing where she will meet Drogo who she is supposed to marry (according to Visery) (hide spoiler)]

Chapter 4: (view spoiler)[This chapter is mainly focused on Ned. Robert asks Ned to be king. I still want Robert to be king. He needs to honor his previous commitment :) (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I am not sure how I think about this book. There are some good chapters with some good characters and characters I like and there are some dud chapters with some dud characters. This book would be somewhere around 3-4 stars because it is still good, but there are some parts that I don't love. I like the character Ned. He just seems to have the best interest of everyone in mind. He tries to help people and he seems to always be helping Robert out. I may be wrong, but that is just how it seems to me... I also really like Dany which might be one of my favorite characters in the parts she is in. The book is well written and very detailed. When I finish the book I will need to watch the tv show. This book would make a good tv show. (hide spoiler)]

Close to page 300: (view spoiler)[ I like Bran quite a bit and am interested in his "third eye" abilities and where they might go from here. So far Bran and Dany seem to be the only two characters that are making Game of Thrones into a fantasy series rather than just highly imaginative historical fiction.
Tyrion however is the character I admire most so far. He's very smart to never delude himself about his position in the world - basically he makes lemonade with all the lemons he's been given. I think he's a good influence on Jon, who needs to learn to come to terms with his place in the world too. (hide spoiler)]

Done: (view spoiler)[ I did like this book. It was well written, but I just felt that it was a bit too long. The job could have been done in 1/2 or 3/4 the length it was done. The book definitely had some ups and downs and some ESPECIALLY boring parts, but some really interesting and action packed parts. I really liked this book towards the beginning, but started to drone on towards the end. All in all, this was a good, action packed book in parts, but the book was too long. But, I would read the following books, even though this one was quite long enough... (hide spoiler)]
