are you sure he's 17? It doesn't seem possible. After all, he and Cersei are twins. Cersei is Joffrey's mother, and I'm guessing that Joffrey is around the same age as Sansa, who is 11. This would mean that Cersei got pregnant at 6. I think he was 17 when he became a Kingsguard.

Hello, how is the series going for everybody? I have been itching to start this series for quite a time now. Figured it's a long-read. So decided to read newer, shorter series. :-P Now I'm almost done with David Baldacci's The Hit, wonder if I start with this series now.

I'm glad to finally start this super hyped book :)

Just FYI I'll be reading this at a super slow pace, since I'm reading quite a few other books this week. But next week I will probably speed up a bit.

We are just discussing as we go, each at our own pace right?

That's probably a good idea... Dang that only bad thing about reading the actual book vs. the ebook, it's easier to save notes and highlight on the ebook version lol. I guess I can take notes here on progress.

Yeah! On iPad you just use the iBooks app OR kindle app. You just select the text and can highlight and take notes and save them. iBooks has more highlighter colors (which is super important to me) lol, but kindle opens a lot of docs and eARCs I get for review, so I use them both :)

Awesome! Yeah u can do it on there too :) I have a kindle touch but I don't use it much, for some reason I prefer reading on my laptop unless it's a long book or unless I wanna read for a few hours straight - the lighting is better on kindle easier to read without hurting eyes.

Prologue - Chapter Daenerys
(view spoiler)[ Really enjoying it so far. I liked the prologue a lot, it seems to set the tone for the book. The Others seem creepy as heck, and I didn't feel too sad when that asshole died lol.
I like Bran a lot, although I was a bit confused because his half bro, Jon, and then in the next chapter when they said Lord Jon died..is that any relation to the half brother? I know it explained it but I didn't get it. I like both women so far too.
Daenerys brother is horrible. I already hate him lol. I've read enough fantasy to not be surprised that she is 13 getting married AND the whole incest thing didn't really surprise me, especially because this book has the whole feeling that this occurred long long time ago. heck, my grandmother got married at 12 years old. it happens :D not in this country though..

It must be hard to not even be able to communicate with the person you just married! And scary! But her brother scares me most and I hate him. I hope something bad happens to him lol.
Eddard I really like too. Although I was kind of confused when he said his wife was the twin of Jamie Lannister? Is that true? But who were the twins then that were seen by Bran? I feel bad for Jon too, at the watch. I really like Tyrion though and am glad he befriended him.
I feel like the twins purposely used Tyrions knife to try to kill Bran! I'm glad the Queen Catelyn caught him and she told Stark. I really like that family. I wonder if all the books will be centered around them or not? I want to keep reading... things are getting so good :) I'm so glad bran woke up too!!! (hide spoiler)]

How is the third book? I'm so curious how this series progresses since so much happens and so many people are dying lol.

I feel like Catelyn agreed to an awful LOT just for them to cross the bridge. Robb marrying one of his daughters, I feel like that'll be interesting!
And I feel like Tyrion might forswear his fam a bit and he could kinda become formidable with all those clansmen at his side. Or, just increase Lannister force. I kinda wanna know when he will find out that Jamie and Cersei purposely used his dagger to kill Caty (or try to) but we don't really know they did for sure right? It's just implied?
