Do religious people refuse to accept science?
H99 wrote: "Abigail wrote: "H99 wrote: "So a rapist, a murderer, a child abuser, they can all go to Heaven if they believe in God, but a good person who is of a different religion or is an atheist can't? That ..."Mh... You could say so. If he/she isn't sorry for their sins.
Now that is a very, very touchy subject and I think most of us would prefer to not go into it at least I would not like to, the hateful things that might ensue from this topic it is just best if we stay off it bit thats all I had to say so take it or leave it your choice.

The existence is all that matters and it's definition is bound by your knowledge, perception, experience; beyond that it's just another fantasy book! Science is in the vicinity of what I can perceive and experience, so one shouldn't choose to accept it, as it's already accepted in your subconscious by means of proofs; but I do respect other people's beliefs. If that's what makes them stronger and happier then religion can't be that bad. But I'm not religious and neither atheist nor agnostic.

Speaking as a religious person myself, I feel that religious people do accept science. I am a keen scientist, often gaining full marks in tests and the like. Now, I know that understanding science and accepting science is very different, but I believe that a good balance of both is needed in order to understand it all to the fullest potential. For example, one of our biology teachers at school has been working there for years, yet they are a strong Christian. They even hold Christian clubs at lunch time (with cake). Now, when it comes to teaching evolution and such, they explain it well. They teach everything in the curriculum and are able to answer questions upon this subject, as is expected of them. So no matter how big religion has an impact on their life, they still chose to teach science. And that means they accept scientific beliefs- their whole career path is based on this- so I feel that just because you are religious, it doesn't mean that you cannot accept scientific reasoning.

And... another well said post.

Hm.... God loves us all. the only reason why we would go to Hell is because we purposely turn away from him. I really, really, really don't think that this all-loving, all-powerful God would send someone to Hell because they were gay and not even give them a chance. I say this politely, just to express myself, but I am not a gay/lesbian person, and don't really like the fact that rainbows are now representing gay people. And the fact that my city is painting roads rainbow for gay people. Maybe it's because I'm Catholic. But the Pope says there's no point of hating this, so I'm trying to embrace it. Back on topic, if God were really to be casting every single gay person to Hell, he wouldn't be the God I believe in and love. He wouldn't be all loving that way.

yup.
Victoria wrote: "What does Christianity and cake have to do with each other"I DID say that the post was going to be off topic.
Lia wrote: "H99 wrote: "Abigail wrote: "H99 wrote: "So a rapist, a murderer, a child abuser, they can all go to Heaven if they believe in God, but a good person who is of a different religion or is an atheist ..."I'm pretty sure the God that Christians, in general, believe in does not support these things whatsoever. You can do things in the Lord's name, but that will not mean he actually supports it. The only living person that can actually do things in God's name and have God fully support him is the Pope. Or so I believe, as the Pope is infallible.

I see, Sorry for the misunderstanding on my part. I'm pretty sure a person won't go to Hell for telling someone to go to Hell. Unless they meant it. but I'm not sure. It's just what I think.
Victoria wrote: "What does Christianity and cake have to do with each other"uuhh... you should probably read nicole's comment above so you understand
Abigail wrote: "Victoria wrote: "Why are you jealous of the Christian group"THEY GET CAKE."
This is really off topic, but they do get a lot of cake. I accidentally went in there once at lunchtime, and they were having a party listening to pop hymns and eating lots of cake. I was so jealous.

OH MY GOSH. PLEASE. I NEED SOME CAKE. NOW.
Lia wrote: ""Telling someone to go to Hell" is a different can of worms from of denying them human rights, bullying and ostracizing. I can take it if someone thinks that being gay is wrong, but I can't take it..."Haha, it's ok. I don't understand them either.
Its my Diabetes Birthday in a few days, gonna celebrate this one like I do all the others with a large piece of chocolate cake. Although I might change and celebrate it with a Victoria sponge.
My religion (Catholicism) doesn't make me choose! We believe that the story of creation in the book of Genesis (1st book of the bible) is not literal. God is outside of time, so seven days could be seven trillion years or whatever. The stages of life that are in the bible, though, are almost all in the same order as in the theory of evolution. I think this theory is called intelligent design.
I think that just because someone is religious doesn't mean they don't believe in some parts of science. You could believe in a god as being the creator of the universe but also believe in some factors of evolution like how species adapt and change to better survive in their environment over time
Yeah. I feel like a lot of the time people think it is either one way or another, but in reality it really isn't. This topic reminds me of the book. Inherit the Wind
I think currently the Catholic church is still somewhat divided over evolution vs. creationism, but the last several popes have repeatedly affirmed that the theory of evolution is compatible with Catholic faith.
One of my best friends is catholic and he probably know the most about science and accepts it the most out of everyone I know

..... An Atheist can totally go to Heaven. I never said they couldn't.
And just because an evildoer believes in God, it does NOT mean they can go to heaven. They will spend a heck of a long time in Purgatory, a place where the soul goes through a cleansing fire for a LONG time, to get the marks of sin out of the soul, so they are clean enough to enter Heaven. How I see it is: the more sin you commit, the longer time in purgatory. And, well, if you're not sorry for what you did, you're going all the way down.
