Do religious people refuse to accept science?

gosh you are truly amusing, man i dont even know why im laughing.
That's true and for that I sincerely apologize.
Well I may have offended some people in the process of debating.
I don't know what to say here...

Okay: where did God come from? Something I've always wondered."..."
And what religion is that?

Okay: where did God come from? Something I've always wondered."
Human's vivid imagination...
(sorry!)

I suppose, if one is to believe in God, that is the only thing that really makes sense. ..."
what do u mean "when nothing existed"? do u mean when be4 "the creation" or before the 'big bang'

That's a pretty go..."
hey H99 u said you were Hindu, doesnt hinduism teach that the Big Bang did in fact occur, although God(s) was a catalyst for the Big Bang (so it was not a random explosion)

And theres also the evolution theory that is supported by hinduism; that is; hinduism teaches that evolution did occur.
SOO.... NO not all religious people refuse to accept sceince. I guess it will ALL depend on what religion people follow (EXAMPLE: Buddhism does not even oppose many scientific theories, since there are n creation stories) and it also depends on how religious or how much one believes.

That's..."
Hinduism believes in evolution not in big bang and it believes life was established in water firsts

That's exactly what I was thinking!

People should actually put this into consideration instead of attacking the Bible first.

I am thoroughly offended by what you've said. We are a 'cancer of the population'?? Are we not worthy enough to assist in society? Are we just a disease in your eyes? Just because we believe in something different?
Christianity and all its branches DO NOT believe in magic. We believe in God. There is a distinct difference.

THANK you!

Would you say God possesses abilities that are supernatural or somewhat magical, or just has the power? (Not an either-or question by the way.)

God is ALL powerful. It's not some magic show. His powers are too great for even the smartest human to comprehend fully.

Exactly. I'm sorry to say this, but in the time that I left for vacation (8 days), and I come back and read all THIS, and find that my faith has been insulted over and over again, and that I AND ALL MY FELLOW CATHOLICS are being DEMONIZED because of what we believe. Because we are part of a worldwide Church. All I've done in this forum is try to provide believable explanations and try to keep the peace, and when I come back, all my beliefs are being put down. Please. Just. Stop. This is a DEBATE, not a WAR.

Me too!

Demonizing? Whoa. I'm sorry you feel that way then. I haven't really been on GR recently but maybe the people you're referring to are just trying to provide explanations for their side of their argument. I dunno.

Can you give me some examples of his powers, ones I may not know much about. (Doesn't need to be detailed...I'm just very ignorant and would like to know more about what you believe.)

I believe that God is omnipotent. He doesn't require magic or supernatural abilities to do what he does. He doesn't use a magic wand. He can do everything and anything. He is everywhere are nowhere. He's just God. There' no way to describe him, really.
I was taught that if humans try to understand EVERYTHING that God is and EVERYTHING that God knows.... we'd just combust. He's too much to behold. And please, if you disagree with that, say it in a polite way.

Sorry. I was just on the bad part of the debate, and I was just really, really insulted by all the comments attacking Catholics. And then I saw that people apologized. All's good.

YES!!!

He has the power to give life. He has to power to heal sicknesses, bring back the dead. He performs MIRACLES, not magic. Many times, he performs some kind 'sign' before a martyr is killed. St. Agnes's hair grew to hide her nakedness, and her attackers were blinded. St Joan of Arc took a long time to burn to death at the stake. St Lucy's eyes were gouged out, but somehow appeared back in her body at her burial. Etc.

Paigetwo *Caitlyn* wrote: "He sent his only son Jesus, to die on the cross for our sins. He loves us that much. Jesus is my Lord and Savior and he can heal the blind, walk on water, heal the sick, raise the dead, turn wate..."
I sort of wonder why he/she/it sent his/her/its son instead just him/her/itself.
And if Jesus has all these powers, such as the fish one, why doesn't he use them? People in so many countries are starving, sick, blind, etc, and have to suffer everyday.
Also, when Jesus sacrificed himself for everybody else's sins, does that count for people who are sinning now? Can people sin now, knowing that Jesus has already sacrificed himself for them?

I thought sinners were cast into hell. Who does go to hell then?
I thought sinners were cast into hell. Who does go to hell then?

Those who do not accept Jesus and believe that He is their Savior.

What happened is this: Jesus is both fully man and fully God. Please don't ask... It's a mystery that no one understands, but it just IS. Jesus is fully man and God, so that, well, if God died and came back, people would think 'no big deal. He's GOD'. But Jesus is also fully man. And he came back. now THAT'S a big deal. And also, technically, God DID send himself, in a way. Catholics (i don't know about others) believe that God is three persons in one. St Patrick explains this using the clover (hence St. Patrick's day is symbolized with clovers as well)--> there is only 1 stem, but 3 leaves. God is like that. god is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Three persons in one God.
And for the question(s) about sin, this is what happened: Remember Adam and Eve's Original sin? Before Christ, it was always there. There was no way to get rid of it. Everyone had it. And because of that NO ONE went to Heaven. NO ONE. not Moses, or Abraham, or whoever. They went to Limbo. When Jesus died, he gave us the chance to erase original sin. This is the reason why Baptism exists: to erase original sin. And so, after Jesus died for us, Heaven's Gates were now open to us.
People go to Hell because when you die, you are immediately sent to God. He gives you a chance to confess and be forgiven, but if you're one of those evil souls that tell him' NO!! I am NOT sorry!!' He'll send you to Hell. One does not go to Hell because he does not believe in God. Ones goes to Hell because he is given infinite chances, and still he chooses to turn his back on God, even after He as revealed Himself to that someone.
I hope that clears things up a bit.

Exactly.

Oh wait, I missed one. you asked about the miracles.
The thing is... All this suffering didn't exist in Eden. It all started when Adam and Eve sinned. And then, you might think: but it's not fair! I didn't do it! It was 6000 years ago!! That's true. But we are of their blood. And therefore, original sin was passed on. Suffering comes from the devil. God does not cause it. But redemption is not freely given. God didn't a fairy godmother; He doesn't run around granting our wishes of health and prosperity. This is all part of God's great plan. he has a path for us. We have to trust Him. Our suffering is for a reason. Look at Terry Fox. He may not be a saint, but he suffered and helped so many others without complaining.
Sorry for the long posts. I just wanted to answer, and answer WELL.
That depends on whether or not the person using it believes that he's the savior, doesn't it?"
I suppose, but we find it rude.
