I have a feeling this series will span more than 3 books.

Clearly. I see a lot of readers who think everything is going to be tied up neatly by then end of the next book. I don't think we'll even get the full story of Kvothes life up to this point. I suspect this is all leading up to the "kingkiller" incident and there will be a gap of years between that incident and the time the story is being told.-spoilers ahead-
Kvothe clearly will not deal with the Chandrian in any resolute manner. He's very clear in book 2 that they are still out in the world. Bast is very fearful of saying their names aloud. Hopefully we get more answers and even a meeting with either a chandrian or an Amyr but I think that's the most we can hope for in book 3.
I get the feeling that this trilogy is just laying the foundations of the world an kvothes rise to greatness and eventual fall from grace. I think Kvothe will rediscover himself at the end in the frame story and that will set up the next series that moves the story out of the past.
I could see an entire trilogy about finding the Amyr before a third trilogy where we finally get some serious direct kvothe vs Chandrian conflict.
This is all speculation but I've read enough epic fantasy that based on the pacing so far I would be shocked if this ends up less than 9 books total.
By mistake, well, my mistake... i read the 2nd book in the first place. now i'm reading the 1st one...Actually it wasn't that bad to read the 2nd onde 1st since now i see and understand some things that perhaps i wouldn't otherwise.
I'm don't see why you would guess this serie, announced as a trilogy, would have more books. my guess is that the autor will not kindly back is word about that. In Portugal, there are 3 book published since the 2nd book of the serie is too big i can imagine the 3rd book of the trilogy to be as big or even bigger than book 2, but not adding more books separate.
I don't know if Kvothe will not meet Cider at all, for i remember Cthaeh tell Kvothe that meeting him was an opportunity that only happens twice in a life time... was the autor referring to the meeting on the street and when he was young, or to the meeting on the street and a future one?
At first, sorry for the bad english, it is my second language. I read the 2nd book in like 4 days, i was so excited about "The Wise Man's Fear" that i almost didn't leave my room. It is great sequel , but i believe that most of Kvhote's past will be told in book 3, and after that patrick rothfuss will continue to write about the present war that Kvothe started.ps: Just joined goodreads and the club,i would like very much to make new friends that are so addicted to books as i am. =D
