That is funny. I just finished Unwind a few days ago and am also reading Clash of Kings at the same time. We are on a similar reading path.

I like freaky. Is it a good freaky?

Justin Longino (justinlongino) | 17 comments hi everyone,

I am new to the group. this is my first post.

I just finished the ocean at the end of the lane

message 405: by Justin (new)

Justin Longino (justinlongino) | 17 comments oops...sent post before I was finished...lol.

The Ocean at the end of the Lane was by Neil Gaiman. this book was a little hard to read. I then re read a little and finally began to understand and found it an amazing read.

I have currently began reading The Madman's Daughter by Megan Shepard. Has anyone else read this?? i am finding it to start slow and hard to get into. I will stick with it as I always do.

message 406: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (catoo) | 2 comments I have read some good ones lately. Divergent, then Insurgent. The Lacemakers, The Dry Grass of August, The Hungry Season, The Sisterhood, and now I am rereading The Bell Jar.

I'm so glad you're enjoying this! It's on my to read list, and when I saw it at the library I was a bit intimidated by its thickness and I decided to put it back for another day. Definitely gonna get it on the next trip! :)

MG (gracedbypages) | 2 comments I am currently reading An Abundance of Katherine's by John Green.

I am 70 pages in and so far I'm liking it.

message 409: by Liliana (new)

Liliana (goodreadscomsillylillily) I'm currently reading A Storm for Crows, Book 4 of the A Song of Ice and Fire series. The whole series has been great, particularly the little things that've led to it be commonly referred to as "A Fantasy series for adults." Things like showing the stupid little monetary issues a regent has to deal with, instead of only portraying heroic battles and such. Super recommended for everyone.

Neil Gaiman is a god in the world of authors! You should check out Stardust and Neverwhere. I adore him!

message 411: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) I finished Fahrenheit 451 yesterday and am reading The DUFF Designated Ugly Fat Friend by Kody Keplinger . I loved, loved loved Fahrenheit 451 and am really liking DUFF.

message 412: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 56 comments I am currently reading some short stories by Wodehouse. I like a lot of his work, but my favorite is really Wooster and Jeeves. I remember there was a series quite awhile ago on PBS I think. It was great. I don't know why we always get such great British series and then they just disappear. I can't tell if they are still being made in Britain and just not available here, or like shows in this country that I like, they just end!!!

message 413: by Leigh (new)

Leigh | 12 comments I am about to start Book Thieves. I have heard a lot of good things about it, recently. I little while back I put a few books on hold through the library. Three game in at the same time, but I already had two I borrowed. Just finished The Age Of Miracles. Not one of my favorites, but not bad either. Quick, easy read. After Book Thieves, I have The Road, Animal Farm, and Requium. I'm gonna have my nose in a book for the next 21 days. Looking forward to it, know if I can just find the time.

message 415: by Shannon (new)

Shannon | 63 comments I need a new book!! Any suggestions? I enjoy pretty much anything...crime/mystery, YA, romance, paranormal, dystopia.....

message 416: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) I just read Unwind Fahrenheit 451 and Seduction and Snacks. All good books. Both Unwind and Fahrenheit 451 are pretty suspenseful, exciting books. Seduction and Snacks is a romantic comedy book. It was crude, lots of swearing but really funny.

message 417: by Patrīcija (new)

Patrīcija (patrisssha) I just finished The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which was absolutely amazing!
Right now i'm reading The perks of being a wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, which is quite good, but i'd like it much more if I haven't seen the movie.

When I get to reading books I reserved and can't wait to read I pretty much ignore everything including cleaning, laundry, and even cooking meals. It can be so much fun to read the next book a favorite author has written. And then new authors!!!

I am like you; I take a break every once in awhile to sort things out.

I tend to graviate to old English mysteries and quite a few newer authors as well. I really like P. D. James and Elizabeth George. P.D. James has not written a Dalgliesh book in quite some time. She is in her 90's now and it may be there won't be others. But the ones written are great. Filled with suspense and they look deeply into the crimes and the ones they eventually catch. At the same time she has developed a great lead and outlines who he is as the series goes on.

I think I like Elizabeth George as her work also has the same characteristics.

L have just gotten into a new series that is sort of steampunk. It is about Victorian England. I think the author is Gail Carriger. (Isn't that helpful?) In case that is wrong, one of her books in the series is called Souless (I think it is the first). And the second is Blameless. If steampunk does not get too detailed into the machines it can be interesting.

There is a fantastic series about a detective named Pendergast by Lincoln Childs and Douglas Preston. Both write their own works (Lincoln Childs the Reacher series), but these take a totally different slant. They are in the real world today, but they sometimes slip into another (or that is the inference). They are filled with suspense and if you like them you can't wait for the next in the series.

I suppose you already know about J.D. Robb (Nora Roberts). I love her series about Dallas and Rourke. The romance is a key part, but luckily it is not the only part of the stories. It is both serious and has moments of humor.

If you want to go really far-fetched and humorous Christopher Fowler write a series about two very old detectives and a unit of British police that started way back in WWII and is still going (although on shaky ground all the time).

And then Donna Andrews. I do read on this forum that many don't like her as there are too many story lines and the plots are ridiculous. It is a laugh riot though if you enjoy that type of book.

So suggestions. Probably way too many. And since none of these are new authors, you may already be into these series.

Read Flowers in the Attic in high school and then read it again last year, I think. It is a good book.

I bought World War Z this summer but I haven't read it yet. Maybe soon.
