Fragments Buddy Read!

A bunch of us are starting a buddy read of Fragments on Friday, May 3rd!! Anyone is welcome to join the discussion!

At the beginning of each post please state how far along you are and use spoiler tags for anything spoilery ;) Read at your own pace and have fun!!!

I don't think you have to read it, but I really want to read it as it's about the isolation war and I think there wasn't enough explanation about that in Partials, so I hope the short story will explain more about it.

It doesn't seem necessary to read it, but it's sort of cool to understand how things got so bad. The MC in the novella is badass though, because she was programmed that way, it's pretty cool!

I need to read the novella too, I will read it before Friday I hope! I have been waiting for this sequel for a long time, and I'm so excited to read it!

Finally got it - finally finished Before I Wake, and starting this tonight. It will be a nice break as I've plowed through the entire Soul Screamers series up to this point. I'll get back to Kaylee and friends after adventuring through New York with Kira and Marcus and Samm --

I think I've gotten my Fridays mixed up! LOL! But I started the book rather than the novella. So . . . since I started it last night and fell asleep while listening, I think I'll get the novella and read it and then go back to the book. I'm flying up to spend the weekend with my husband for our anniversary, so I doubt I'll get much reading done. Maybe in the airport on Thursday and Monday, so if I'm behind I'll catch up then. Thanks for letting me know! And me=duh!

LOL thought you might've mixed up the buddy reads! It's getting confusing with so many going on haha! That sounds like a good plan, I wanted you to experience everything at the same time as us so I thought I'd just check ;) Can't wait for Friday to start!!

I haven't gotten time to read Isolation yet :(. I guess I will just have to start with Fragments and read it later.

I'm still waiting on Isolation from my library. But I'm ready to go with Fragments just as soon as I get Tessa and Jem and Will taken care of, which should be later tonight. I cannot wait for Clockwork Princess, btw, and now I absolutely have to read TMI. Before the movie comes out.

Yay, Jen! I personally like The Infernal Devices more than TMI, mainly because I like the setting. But TMI is really good too! I'm really excited about the movie, I hope they do a good job on it!

So this thought has been rummaging around in my head for a bit. What are partials? (view spoiler)[Not really robots or androids. They feel like clones to me, just super clones with advanced gene therapy. And if humans could get gene therapy, why didn't they go for the same type of super human powers that partials got? Gosh I'm only 11% in but this is really good!! I really recommend reading just with what's happened already. :)

Okay I'm now 29% of the way in, and its really exciting already! This one started with a bang! (view spoiler)[ Kira's FATHER is responsible for RM?!! Things seem even more confusing now. I'm thinking that could be why she is a Partial, or maybe she's only partly Partial, her father gave her just enough gene therapy so she could survive RM. OR, She was his new invention to make a hybrid kind of Partial/human, to make the world a better place. Totally wild guesses!
I'm so glad she was able to help Marcus, but how the heck is she going to get the humans off the island? (hide spoiler)]

I haven't started fragments yet :(. I got an ARc yesterday for a blog tour and my stop is this saturday and so I want to read that one first to make sure I finish it in time. Luckily it isn't that long.

I'm now 82% of the way through. THis book is so good! It seems the more we learn, the more questions there are! (view spoiler)[ It was so sad what happened to Afa, but I'm kind of glad he's out of his misery. What happened to Heron? Couple of guesses--she was a double agent, and they really couldn't trust her, so she has reunited with the enemy. OR Dr. Vale captured her. He said the cure wasn't "portable." That makes me wonder if he has captured Partials and is using them as the cure. (hide spoiler)]

Finished! Wow! Lots answered and (view spoiler)[dang that ending. We have to wait for the next book. But wow... Some of our theories were right, like Vale using partials for the cure.

And Isolde has the first hybrid baby!?! But what weird disease does he have? At one point I wondered if Isolde was a partial too, but then remembered she was pregnant so dismissed that idea. Wow! (hide spoiler)]

Great story with lots of twists and unexpected surprises! Two thumbs up!

I really want to start this and read all those spoilers, but I almost have no time to read at all this weekend. I am crazily busy with work and today is my grandma's birthday, so I probably won't get much reading done either :(

LOL speed readers, you caught up to me! Still at 52%! Now that I'm back online I have to catch up on work stuff :) Hoping to finish in time for the next buddy read and read your spoilers! Here are my thoughts (view spoiler)[ Partially a Partial lol!! Afa is frustrating/interesting/annoying/funny lol! He seems almost autistic with the "don't touch me" stuff and his obsession with things. Weird how Chicago is completely flooded, kind of eerie.

The plot is extremely well thought out and Wells describes everything in so much detail. It's a blessing and a curse I think. We're left feeling satisfied but it slows down the read quite a lot too. And although I feel slightly more attached to the characters in this one, I still don't have much of a connection to any of them yet. Probably Marcus the most, although his POV chapters have sort of disappeared, much to my dismay!

All in all, really enjoy it and can't wait to finish! (hide spoiler)]

Don't worry, Marcus's POV chapters continue on, and they get pretty action packed! Things get insane in the second half of the book!

I completely agree! (view spoiler)[I think Afa probably has something like Asperger's, which has worsened over 12 years of no human contact.

I also totally agree about the way Wells is so good with details and yet the way it slows down the plot. I realise that Haru and company are somewhat important with regard to Partial invasion, but I don't care nearly as much about them as I do about Kira and company. Switching between three different plot points is tiring. I think the whole invasion could have been addressed using Marcus and company. (hide spoiler)]

OK, I've got to get back to the story. I fell asleep listening last night and now I've got to go back and catch what I missed.

I read in Dan Wells' twitter feed that someone dies unexpectedly in the final sequel. Now I'm scared. I hate it when I care so much about fictional characters! (and yet, that's what makes for the best books -- )

I agree completely, Jen! You know, I've waited a year to read Fragments, and now I'm going to have to wait another year to read the final book! I need to start waiting to read these after the whole series is out, lol! I just can't help myself!

Ha.. I guess that's what the rereads are for. Thank you, David, for not making us wait so long in between your books! Rereads for your books are because we miss the characters, not because we have to try to remember them to be able to read the next book. ;-)

David doesn't make us wait long at all, lol! I love that! But waiting a year is brutal! How about TMI? The wait for the last book is about a 2 year wait!
