Dolf Patijn (digitaldolf) I'm reading Great House by Nicole Krauss and the perfect nazi by Martin Davidson (non-fiction) but will probably put them aside for a while because I want to read the new Robert Galbraith (Pseudonym of J. K. Rowling) "Lethal White".

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments I'm reading The Ruin by Dervla McTiernan and Washington Black which made it to the Man Booker shortlist.

It is really good! I got it from the library.

And though it's 375 pages (Penguin edition) with other stuff at the end, there are lots of blank pages and pages for each day/year in the story. I don't know why publishers feel they have to do this - these add 38 pages. GR says it's 380 pages but it's really only 337 without all the blank pages and stuff at the end.

Susan | 4707 comments Thanks for the recommendation, Barbara. I have placed a request for it and am number four. It is much better than Fear: Trump in the White House where I am 375.

Thanks Barbara . I find it annoying also to have blank pages, what is the purpose in having all those empty pages.

You might be waiting a while for "Fear", Susan! I hope you have some other books lined up while you wait for it!

Susan | 4707 comments I do and they have over 50 copies so I don't think it will be too bad. Fingers crossed.

While we were in Oxford, UK, we saw a man selling Trump toilet paper. We didn't buy any, but I did take his picture.

Barbara (bdegar) | 4626 comments I am listening to The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle and it's proving to be a slog, sigh. Also close to finished Magic Hour which was a birthday present. Started Washington Black but got waylaid. Have to read Conversations with Friends by next Monday's book club.

message 6713: by Susan (new)

Susan | 4707 comments I liked The Seven Deaths but I don't think I would have enjoyed listening to it. I think I would have become confused,

message 6714: by Donald (new)

Donald Leitch About two-thirds through Ali Smith’s Autumn. I would recommend it. There are many layers to the book so it warrants a close read.

Yup. So confusing. And nothing annoys me more than male narrators doing the voices of all the women who aren't identified as young with these wavering falsettos.

message 6729: by Susan (new)

Susan | 4707 comments I just finished Dervla McTiernan's The Ruin. It was so good and had not one but two bright woman. One was a scientist establishing a lab in Galway and one an aspiring surgeon. Anyway it was the names that gave me a chuckle. I had no idea on how to say them. Of course, the author's siblings include Fearghal, Odharnait and Aoibhinn. I would be lost.

I just finished Promise Me the Moon
It is a light, fluffy thriller. My wife has decided not to read it, too much fantasizing. She did like the peanut butter legs quote in my review. 3.5 rounded up to 4 stars.
