Susan | 4707 comments I love love love People of the Book and have read all of this author's books. In fact, I inundated Catherine with her books for Christmas. Happy reading.

message 5352: by Margo (new)

Margo Thanks Susan. I loved the first chapter anyway, that's all I managed to stay awake for :-)

message 5353: by SherryRose (new)

SherryRose | 0 comments Right now I'm reading and listening to Birds of a Feather Birds of a Feather (Maisie Dobbs, #2) by Jacqueline Winspear . I love Maisie Dobbs. I also love Overdrive. I can read places where I need to be quiet and listen in the car and in the house while I clean. How did
I ever get house cleaning done before audio books? Lol

message 5354: by Susan (new)

Susan | 4707 comments Maisie Dobbs is such an interesting character. You never know what she'll do next. I've been quite surprised many times.

message 5355: by Margo (new)

Margo I've started The Husband's Secret as a bit of light reading til my hayfever gets a bit more under control. I'm not enjoying it as much as some of her previous work - maybe cos it's hard to hear it over my sniffing n sneezing. I'm full of the joys of spring :-))

message 5356: by SherryRose (new)

SherryRose | 0 comments Maisie is unique that's for sure. I'm enjoying the series.

Margo, I'm sorry you're suffering with allergies. I know it's not easy.

message 5357: by Margo (new)

Margo Thanks Sherry, I'm used to it so it's not a big deal, it just makes it impossible to concentrate on books. Also I need to do some housework and I agree with you -mso much easier listening to a good book! I suppose I'll do some rereads ;-)

Karen Ireland (book-vixen) Near finished listen to The Cuckoo's Calling (Cormoran Strike, #1) by Robert Galbraith by Robert Galbraith.

I have to say I am really enjoying this book. Hoping to finish it this evening while I am sick in bed.

I'm reading this as well! What are the odds?

message 5367: by Susan (new)

Susan | 4707 comments Well, I finished my second book in a row on my Kindle and can now, thankfully, reach for a real book. I have a neck ache from bending over to read the darn Kindle. I just ordered a laptop desk with legs to see if that will help. Of course, I do have to admit that I have two games on it that I am addicted to- one a farm and one an aquarium.

message 5368: by SherryRose (new)

SherryRose | 0 comments I hope that works for you Susan. Games can really be addicting!

message 5369: by Seraphina (new)

Seraphina If your kindle is in a cover case, once you open it back the kindle will stay upright handsfree

message 5370: by Susan (new)

Susan | 4707 comments I know, Seraphina, but the problem is when I'm sitting in my chair with my legs up putting it on my lap is still too low. I think my only hope is the desk.

message 5371: by Margo (new)

Margo Susan I somtimes use a lap tray. Hope you find something that works for you. I love those kind of games to keep my hands occupied while I'm listening to audio :-)

I actually did enjoy it and am now starting Big Little Lies. Have you read any of her other books?

message 5374: by Margo (new)

Margo Yes, quite a few and I usually enjoy her work. Big Little lies is really good. I recently read the hypnotists love story which was pretty good. Just couldn't get my head around the plot of this one.

Kevin I have been positively snowed under for the last few weeks so my reading habits have been lack lustre, and will remain disappointing for at least another month. :(

I did however get around to finishing Sanderson's Mistborn trilogy by reading The Hero of Ages and it was a truly spectacular finish. Given that this series continues beyond this book I had expected it to end somewhat unfinished, however, he expertly ties up countless loose ends. I'm not sure what category to put Sanderson in other than maybe a writing beast.
Also, I may be going soft or perhaps my mental fortitude is weakened by hours spent in the library, but I was very moved by the ending, to the point where salt water ran down my face for a little bit.

Now, I have started into Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian and am thirty pages in. I'm likely hooked. Her writing is marvelous, especially so considering this is a debut novel. I know that Paul is a fan and can see that both Sara and Trelawn also enjoyed it. Hopefully nightmares of vampires will overshadow my night terrors about Irish linguistics. o.O

Salt water running down a face is a sign of a good book. I added the first of the mist born series to my list. Good luck with your studies Kevin!

message 5377: by Margo (new)

Margo Oh Kevin I remember those days of studies :-(

I still haven't got around to Sanderson. I have a decades worth of reading to catch up on!

I like the sound of the historian and am hoping it will eventually come to audible uk as I don't think I could tackle another 700 page read on kindle. I'm reading The Woman in White at the moment and really like Collins style and SOH. But then again vampires! Maybe I could do it :-)
