Svavelvinter | 7 comments Hello! I am in desperate need of assistance with finding a book I read, or believe I read, a long long time ago.
This will probably contain alot of spoilers, but since I'm no longer sure this book really exists, I won't bother with spoiler-tagging it.

If I remember the start of the book (I believe it was about two or three books, but it could have been just the one) it starts with a boy living in a cold northernly village working, or maybe apprenticing, as a smith or handyman of sorts.
Someone attacks the village, he flees, or is captured and taken, south, where he is forced to craft some sort of invincible armor for a sketchy lord, but he deliberately makes this perfect armor with one weakness to be exploited in the inevitable fight against said bad lord.

Here comes the eventual spoiler.
My memories skip the whole eventual story right to the end, where as far as I can remember the main dude has been captured and taken to some eastern continent, and has his legs cut of, but he (being some kind of master smith) manages to craft himself new mechanical legs.

Then my memory skips to the very end of the book where it's revealed that this guy was the God of Smiths on a sojourn among the mortals or likewise.

Since no one I've talked with this far have ever heard of the book, I'm starting to believe I've somehow mixed up memories from various books into a non-existing book.
It was about fifteen years ago I read this, and my erratic googling cannot find it for me.
You guys on this forum helped me remember Farylands Forlorn a couple of years ago, so now I'll try for this book as well :)
Sorry for the incohesive writing. Imagine how my brain looks when I try to remember the books :(

With puppy-eyes pleading, //Joakim

Magda | 14 comments sounds like a mix between Valentine TV show and Iron Man comic :P
I have no idea what that book is but I'm interested :D

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Well, there's some themes that're in the Swords series by Saberhagen. But nothing that is directly mentioned. (ie: no armor, nor artificial legs, but smiths and gods).

Svavelvinter | 7 comments Another detail that seems to stick is that the author really emphasizes (spelling?) the word "flawless" when describing the armor this guy makes.
Like, really really flawless. Made with rings and plate, I think.

"The Swords" doesn't seem to be the one :(

Svavelvinter | 7 comments Hmm... Could it be The Anvil of Ice? The Winter of the World... Doesn't ring any bells, but the plot reviews do.

Rohan's "The Winter of the World" series looks very promising. A review of the fourth book "The Castle of the Winds" mentions a "magnificent but obscurely flawed suit of armour".

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments That gets my vote by far.

Svavelvinter | 7 comments I decided to abandon sleep yesterday and try to find if this book was the book I've been looking for, and it seems it really is :)
Years of searching is at an end! :D
Thanks for your replies folks, much appreciated.

Now, to find the books... ^^

Svavelvinter | 7 comments iTunes had it, cheaper than salt. As good a time as any to see if I can enjoy eBooks instead of real books.
This will be a great friday evening :)

Sounds good. :) I'm a big fan of eBooks which I take out from the library (using the Overdrive app). British audiobooks are particularly good if the reader has a talent for different accents. It's like listening to a theatrical performance.
