* Description: Sixteen-year-old Noah has come to terms with his gayness. His mom's okay with it and that's certainly a big plus, but it's not enough and it's not all that Noah has on his mind. He's also been abducted by aliens who did who knows what to him, and when finished experimenting, left him naked in a cornfield with the ability to talk to and understand all the animals on earth.
He wants to be true to himself, to own who and what he is, and prove to his classmates that they can be friends with gay people without risk of catching homosexuality. When he confides in his best friend, he's blown away that homophobic Chris brutally rejects him, discounts their long friendship, and succeeds in turning the whole school against Noah. His first day is merciless and he endures cruel pranks and name-calling, and shunned by all, eats his lunch in the boy's restroom.
Candy Bloom, popular cheerleader and a strong presence in school, befriends Noah, sticking up for him publically and doing her best to change her boyfriend Chris's attitude toward his former best friend. Like Noah, the aliens also captured Candy, experimented on her and left her with the capacity to foresee the future, a handy gift indeed. When she confides her secret to him, it tightens their bonds of friendship even more.
Angry, unsure of himself or what he feels, Chris refuses to give an inch in his struggle with Noah's homosexuality and his longtime relationship with a gay boy. He's not sure about Candy and why he's with her, but when Chris admits that he, too, was the victim of alien abduction, and displays the best ability of all - teleportation, the three form a reluctant alliance in order to prevent the next alien attack, an event that Candy's visions say is imminent.
The Gene Pull takes the reader on a great adventure as Noah comes to grips with the bullying of his schoolmates, his growing inner strength and confidence, and the blossoming relationship with Chris's younger brother, Jamie.
