Marjorie (marjoriequinn) | 118 comments I'm so bad at this but when I hear Irish male with blue eyes I think Michael Fassbender or Cillian Murphy.
Any one have ideas on who can play Elizabeth? I was having trouble with this one.

message 2: by Philippa (last edited Apr 23, 2013 10:21AM) (new)

Philippa | 143 comments Since they had such large pictures of the characters on the cover, I find myself trying to find actors who match the faces. For Elizabeth - Diane Kruger. For Murphy I think Eric McCormack.

message 3: by Laura (new)

Laura Seagraves | 5 comments For Murphy I though James McAvoy, I bet he could do an Irish accent.

message 4: by Marjorie (new)

Marjorie (marjoriequinn) | 118 comments I like Diane Kruger for Elizabeth.

Peter, maybe Orlando Bloom. She did describe him as having an elfish look.

Ian how about Ewan McGregor.

message 5: by Kevin (new)

Kevin | 2 comments Natalie Portman as Elizabeth
Jonathan Frakes (20 years ago) as Murphy
David Tenant as Ian
Portia deRossi as Lex

message 6: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (ladycello) Jonathan Rhys Meyers (from Bend It Like Beckham, The Tudors) as Murphy.

Elisabeth Shue (from the 90's movie The Saint) as Elizabeth.

message 7: by Lindsay (last edited Apr 24, 2013 08:23PM) (new)

Lindsay | 132 comments I actually kept picturing Olivia D'Abo as Elisabeth -- she's recently most known for being Nicole Wallace in Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She plays a sociopath in the show, but she also has this great womanly beauty and a natural sensuality that I think described Elizabeth. I also think D'Abo has an intellectuality about her looks that would be very fitting.

I never saw an actor as Murphy because the picture on the cover real seems to fit. And none of the other characters were given enough of a description for me to picture anyone in particular.

I did picture Elisabeth Shue as Elizabeth, but I do not think she would be believable as a brainy scientist.

Oh. My. God. Kevin. If I read this book thinking of Jonathan Frakes as Murphy I would be on that man like white on rice.

message 10: by Chandra (new)

Chandra | 12 comments Murphy played by Timothy Omundson. Anyone remember that Disney made-for-TV movie "Luck of the Irish"? The leprechaun, Seamus McTiernen, was played by this handsome fellow. (From this we know he can do a lovely Irish accent). Also, he plays Carlton Lassiter currently in Psych.

message 11: by Beth (new)

Beth P I kept picturing a young Gabriel Byrne as Murphy.

message 12: by Ilana (new)

Ilana | 3 comments Jane Mcgonigal for elizabeth, especially because of the hair.

message 13: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (abookforwhen) | 8 comments I kept picturing Michelle Rodriguez as Sarah.

message 14: by Minsta (new)

Minsta | 93 comments Here you go Bonnie: Benedict Cumberbatch as Murphy!

Olivia Wilde as Elizabeth (just saw her picture in a magazine and it reminded me of the photo from the cover of the book).

For some comic relief, Jack Black as Ian :)

and I see Angelina Jolie as either Lex or Dr. Mitchell...

message 15: by Emilye (new)

Emilye Brown | 3 comments This is way out of left field, but I couldn't help thinking of James Mercer of The Shins as Murphy throughout the entire book.

message 16: by Gary (new)

Gary Elizabeth: Laura Dern.

message 17: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (poppysocks70) Michael Fassbender as Murphy.

message 18: by Cara (new)

Cara Mia (chickowits) | 196 comments When they mentioned Elizabeth's hair being a bit wild and unruly, my brain went straight to Alex Kingston and insisted on staying there. I seriously had no mental picture of Murphy. Square jawed, dark haired, light eyed was the most I could muster.

Christian Bale?

I had the same thought of Alex Kingston as Elizabeth. For Murphy - Clive Owen.

I'd be okay with casting many of the other actors mentioned in this thread as well. Just didn't get a strong sense of him from the page. I'm not explaining it well.

My other thought for Murphy: Jonathan Rhys Meyers. Irish but somehow not quite right.

message 24: by Emilye (new)

Emilye Brown | 3 comments Tony Curran

message 25: by Beth (new)

Beth (bethodactyl) | 84 comments When my boyfriend saw the cover of the book he thought Elizabeth looked like Rose Tyler. Because of his suggestion, I could only picture Billie Piper as Elizabeth throughout the whole book.

At my local hangout, we threw out Jonathan Rhys Meyer as a casting suggestion for Murphy.

message 26: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie_jones) | 348 comments B/C I liked Song of Scarabaeus better, I'm going to throw out some suggestions for casting that story:

For Edie: Ashley Greene (Alice from Twilight)
For Finn: Norman Reedus (Boondock Saints, The Walking Dead)

I'm just not sold on Jonathan Rhys Meyer as Murphy. I think his face is too sharp. But,

Norman Reedus as Finn, Yes!

message 28: by Jasmine M (new)

Jasmine M | 1 comments Jackson Hurst from "Drop dead diva" for Murphy

message 29: by Martin (new)

Martin Mcmahon | 2 comments Going out on a limb with John Barrowman as Murphy & Michelle Williams as Elizabeth. For Julia & Ian, Rachel Weiss (yes, I had just seen Oz) & for some reason, Arthur Darvill from "Doctor Who". And since apparently villains work better with a British accent, Jaime Murray (H.G. Wells from Warehouse 13) as Mitchell.

And Cumberbatch should be Blake.

message 30: by Cara (new)

Cara Mia (chickowits) | 196 comments Mmmm, yes, Norman Reedus.
For Ardagh, I got Andrew Scott (Moriarty from Sherlock), but I feel like he'd need aged up somewhat. I kinda got Uma Thurman or Malin Ackerman vibes from Mitchell.

Sara Creasy (saracreasy) Katie wrote:

Love the idea of Ashley Greene for Edie. I didn't have anyone in mind when I wrote the book (started 13 years ago!) - it would need to be someone who can look convincingly grubby and in Twilight Alice always looks perfect (have not seen all the movies). But she has the right face and build.

Haven't seen the Walking Dead but I'm sure I've seen Norman Reedus in something - face rings a bell. He looks like the Finn on the cover. I prefer Finn Mark II on Children of Scarabaeus but I've never been able to cast him.

A couple of people mentioned Gina Torres for Cat - I swear Cat Lancer predates Firefly, but she'd be great. Needless to say I'm a huge Firefly fan: Chiwetel Ejiofor for Zeke (with a less posh accent). He's freaky in Serenity but I have seen the actor play a nice-guy role.

For Haller - Guy Pearce? James Callis from Battlestar Galactica?

Let's go for broke and have Sean Bean as Captain Rackham and Laura Dern for Natesa.

message 32: by Cara (new)

Cara Mia (chickowits) | 196 comments I swear to god, every time someone says Sean Bean, I think of Rowan Atkinson for a minute, and they aren't remotely the same.
Gina Torres has that tough but regal bearing I sensed immediately with Cat, so I feel that bit of casting is pretty spot on.

message 33: by Sue (last edited Apr 30, 2013 05:38PM) (new)

Sue No...not Sean Bean for Rackham! He dies in EVERYTHING?

I got a Jensen Ackles vibe from Finn. Or maybe even Brian Austin Greene. He pulled off military-tough well in the Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Cat is definitely Gina Torres.

He does!! I recently rented a movie "starring" Sean Bean and he died in the first 10 minutes!!

message 35: by Gary (new)

Gary I just watched a BBC program that was narrated by a gal who looks an awful lot like Elizabeth: Dr. Suzanah Lipsomb. Here's a thing she did regarding the stuff that could kill you in a Victorian home:

Haha. I was actually surprised to see him make it through to the end of Flightplan. I looked over at the person who was watching it with me and asked them, "Can he do that?!" as the credits rolled.

message 37: by Celise (new)

Celise (celise_) Not sure why, but from the first description of Elizabeth I pictured Adrianne Palicki back when she was blonde (Supernatural, G.I. Joe)

message 38: by Zara (new)

Zara (gbg_muffin) | 2 comments For some reason, I found this one really easy to cast, which isn't always the case for me.

Elizabeth: Kept seeing Reese Witherspoon, probably because she played a ghost in that one movie with Mark Ruffalo. She seems spunky enough, although maybe not brainy enough. I like the suggestion of Diane Kruger too.
Murphy: Gerard Butler. I know he's Scottish, but he played (sexy) Irish in P.S. I Love You, and even wore a dark blue shirt like the one Murphy wears.
Ian: Ewan McGregor. Attractive man with a beard will always be him.
Julia: Christina Hendricks. She's described as a curvy redhead, so... I'd also buy her as a doctor.
Sarah: Michelle Williams.
Yasmina: Paz Vega.
Garvey: Kept seeing Jeff Bridges for some reason.

I had a hard time castin Mitchell, maybe Rachel Weiss? I like the suggestion of Portia deRossi for Lex too.
