My first and possibly still my most favourite Bram title. The character Joel makes for an engaging (at times humorous) and remarkably sympathetic protagonist. This is an riveting read of a coming of age for a young gay male in an earlier period of history. I like the complex and at times contentious relationship between Joel and the adorkably hunky Corey … and I particularly like the anxiety provoking cliff-hanger ending.
Not everyone will appreciate the way the book ends. Corey’s diary excerpts were a delight and can I say I will never look at margarine/butter as a potential sex-aid ever in the same way again.
