Jane (PS) | 24347 comments I'm in, of course :) will just have to buy the book first...

I don't have any particular reading plans but I guess I'll read this earlier rather than later.

message 6: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments I'm hoping to read this over the weekend. I've been waiting and waiting for May to be able to start :D

message 7: by MountainKat, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

MountainKat | 31793 comments I just finished - wow! It always amazes me when something so short can be so powerful. While I was reading the story, I could hear it - it was like I was there hearing Matthew telling it to Paul. That alone was was moving, but the story was so sweet and so sad.

I am old enough that I remember this time - when sex was no longer just fun. I had gay friends, and one who was a hemophiliac, it was scary and I worried for them. Perhaps that is why it hit me so hard. But I am really glad I read it - even if I spend my evening in tears...

Another great pick for our buddy read!

Breann | 398 comments Okay I'm not waiting until this weekend, I'm starting this now!

Fran | 12286 comments I was going to wait until the weekend too...may have to read it tomorrow! Stuck in homework land with my daughter for the evening :(

message 11: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments Sometimes I rate short stories a little easier than regular length books. I often wonder if it's possible for me to become invested enough in a short book for it to be a genuine 5 star read for me. Yup! Totally possible! Gahhhhdddd, this was so good! I was immediately in love with the characters, so then I started crying before anything even happened because I knew where it was going. Such a beautiful, heartbreaking story. Another great buddy read!

MountainKat | 31793 comments Yay!! I'm glad you liked it too!

message 13: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

~KarenH~ | 11374 comments I finished this morning, and wow, how amazing was that? I'm with Kat - I felt like I was right there in the room hearing Matthew tell the story. I actually made it through without crying (believe it or not) but I think that was mostly because I'd heard how much of a tear-jerker it was that I'd prepared myself for it.

message 14: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jane (PS) | 24347 comments OK - I'm just about to buy it and jump on in :) It's about time to clear out my tear-ducts!

message 15: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jane (PS) | 24347 comments Finished this book last night. Loved it and would definitely like to read more of Webb's work.

It's so sad to think how many young men were caught in the same circumstances as Patrick back in the mid to late 80s. One wrong decision and the road followed is not just a different road, but a dead-end with the no U-turn sign...

Only a few tears, but as Karen noted, we were warned :)

Thanks YOU, Tom :)

Is there any chance of a sequel, letting us know how Paul and Matthew are after their coffee date?

Hmmm Maybe. I hadn't planned it. But maybe I could do a freebie short to update some things I am thinking about.

message 23: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Fran | 12286 comments *SPOILERS*

I read it today and I loved it. What a powerful story, I did cry the ugly cry. I felt that unexpected and immediate loss when Matthew went to Patrick's door the next day.....so glad we did get to find out where he went and that he was cared for and loved....

I would love a short update and a maybe an HEA for Matthew and Paul to go with their HFN ;)

Fran | 12286 comments Wow, how are we going to top this one??

Any suggestions for next Monty's m/m buddy read?

message 25: by MountainKat, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

MountainKat | 31793 comments I still have to read the other this month!! But no, no ideas...

message 26: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Fran | 12286 comments Did my iPhone autocorrect month's to Monty's? LOL - that's what I get for doing this on my phone :)

Kat, I'm anxious to hear what you think of Country Mouse- I loved it and Karen didn't ....

message 27: by MountainKat, Moderator (last edited May 17, 2013 07:10PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

MountainKat | 31793 comments That will be interesting since I usually agree both of you! You have to watch autocorrect, it can get you into trouble!

I did like it Fran, but you're right, I didn't love it - I think it was just a little too short and the characters (especially Malcolm) didn't get fleshed out well enough for me. I'm looking forward to the sequel, though!

As for next month, I don't have any new suggestions, but there have been some that haven't made the cut over the last few months that sounded interesting - the only ones that come to mind at the moment are Blue Notes and After Ben. I'm sure there have been others, too. Also, Dreamspinner is doing 1 hour freebies again...maybe something interesting will show up there!

message 29: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Fran | 12286 comments I like both your suggestions Karen :)

I've been trying to grab the freebies when I can. I missed Chaser though :(

message 30: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jane (PS) | 24347 comments I missed all the freebies :(

After Ben has been getting a lot of good reviews... I haven't read the precis on Blue Notes.

message 31: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Fran | 12286 comments After Ben (Seattle Stories, #1) by Con Riley - works for the Quarterly Challenge for 'hands touching'

Blue Notes (Blue Notes, #1) by Shira Anthony - works in the Quarterly for 'instrument on cover'

Good Bones by Kim Fielding - was a freebie- works for 'clouds on cover'

City Mouse (Country Mouse, #2) by Amy Lane - works for 'body of water'

I'm always trying to multi-task, LOL.

Any other ideas? If not, someone please choose a title for next month :)

message 32: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments I vote for the freebie! It's my mid-year resolution, stop purchasing new books!! :D

message 33: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Fran | 12286 comments Breann, do you mean Good Bones? The first two were also freebies recently. I'm good with any of them :)

message 34: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments Yes that's the one I meant :)

message 35: by ~KarenH~, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

~KarenH~ | 11374 comments I'm good with whatever gets chosen - didn't get Good Bones when it was free, but that's ok...I have Amazon credit I can use! :D

message 36: by MountainKat, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

MountainKat | 31793 comments I'm good with whatever too. They are all new to me...

message 37: by Jane (PS), Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jane (PS) | 24347 comments I'm happy to read Good Bones too (or any of the other ones). I missed GB as a freebie, but I'm happy to buy it :)

message 38: by Fran, Moderator (new) - rated it 5 stars

Fran | 12286 comments Good Bones is a little pricey - $5.38 on Amazon.

I have After Ben, Blue Notes and Good Bones that were all free for me. Apparently I have way too much time on my hands that I catch all the freebies for the hour they are free, LOL.

Does everyone want to go with the book that the majority of us has free or go with Good Bones, which only Breann and I have free, I think.

I'm good with any of them-

message 39: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments We can go with the majority. I picked Let's Hear it for the Boy for this month :)

I have just picked up Good Bones at Eros Books for $4.29. But I'm happy to go with any of them...

I have After Ben and Blue Notes too, but I'm also fine with either of the other two - Good Bones sounds interesting just because I haven't read much PNR m/m so it's something a little different. I really don't have a preference - they all sound good for different reasons. :)
