Félix (habitseven) This is just plain not good.

A large majority of states are slicing into their social safety nets, often crippling preventive efforts that officials say would save money over time.

Kelly (Maybedog) (maybedog) I know, it's so horrible. We have a huge deficit and no state income tax so they're talking about cutting medicaid! How backwards is that? We need a state income tax but it will never happen. The other culprit is the very evil Tim Einman who is very wealthy and just keeps putting up anti-tax, anti-fee ballot measures that are poorly thought out, poorly worded and reactionary so people vote for them in their short-sitedness and we end up not able to fix roads or run ferries.

"An ounce of prevention" the old saying goes and it's true. We are so short-sited!
