I know I read this book a couple of years ago but i am not sure when it was published. The Heroine was a recent heiress and was being pursued by a suitor at a ball. She was cornered in a room that had a window and to escape being "compromised" she jumped out a second floor window to a tree and then got her dress caught up in the limbs so she was stuck. meanwhile, the story's hero is having an assignation under this tree with the hostess of the party. He looks up when a feather falls from our heroine's hat and sees her in the tree and decides to end the assignation and help her out of the tree. later on in the story he overhears the unwanted suitor make a bet that he will marry the heroine (using unflattering terms) and the hero joins the bet to keep the guy from more cruel remakes. both guys court her and she learns about the bet and there is a big misunderstanding. Any ideas? it is driving me crazy.
