Bluedaizy | 97 comments I am a total pack rat and collecting books as a hobby has not been a match made in heaven. There are so many books to read and so little time.... heavy sigh...But there is no way I'm going to stop collecting or stop growing a To Be Read pile. At least my To Be Read pile is virtual and, for the most part, not actual. Whew!

Vicki - I Love Reading (httpswwwfacebookcommybookblog) lol my to read pile is all what is on my bookshelf.. (and piled up the side of the book shelf) oh and on the floor in front of the book shelf..lol

Mary JL (maryjl) | 28 comments Better to have too large of a to be read pike than too small. Imagine you are snowed in for three days. You have only one book tbr. You start it--you can't stand it. NOw what? Nothing to read? (New, I meants).

I always have several choices ready to go.

Kim (catmommie) I stopped collecting for my TBR piles, now in four boxes. I have no more room!!

Whenever I'm ready to start a new book, it takes me a day or so to decide...I must have too many. This time around, I had read the first chapter of Point Blank (Catherine Coulter) a week or so before while weeding out my TBR pile, so I was ready to begin. I really like the book so far, btw.

Mary Todd (marytodd) | 65 comments I use the library almost exclusively...one time (at a big library) I started in the A's and went through the alphabet. Discovered James Lee Burke that way! Now we have the $3 for a best seller book at my library...$3 is worth not having to wait for requests to be honored...sometimes MONTHS.

Elaine | 30 comments Mary, I use the library exclusively. The books were taking over my house. My library has the third highest usage in the country, so the wait is always very long for the new books. However, I look at it that it is an adventure to just look at all the books. That way if I find a new author, or a book that a favorite author wrote and I haven't read, it makes it a really fun trip. If we had the $3 option I might fall into my old ways!

Mary Todd (marytodd) | 65 comments For $3 you don't get to keep the book...just read it first.

Mary JL (maryjl) | 28 comments One way I find new authors is to go to our library's quarterly Friends of the Library books sale. They have mysteries for $2 hardback and $1 for paperback.

So I grab some that look interesting. I have discovered several new authors that way. Yes, I also got a few unlikeable books that way. However, at$2 per or less, it is a lot less risk than buying new!

Mysterious | 16 comments Afraid I accumulated a few books myself, I've been trying to be more selective and hopefully the book goes out the door when I'm done since I haven't room for to-be-read books AND read books.

My local Friends of the library ask .25 ea or 5 for a dollar for paperbacks. This includes the large trade size, but ask 1.00 ea for hardcovers. Most of ours are donations so I tend to stop there first since this is *their* every day price.

Some other local libraries don't get as many donations and sell library discards at a higher everyday price of 2.00 for a hard cover and .50 paperback because they need the money.

*edit (hate when I do that

Michael (michaeladraper) | 58 comments I have a number of collectible books that I've loved and reread through the years. I've delayed doing anything with them but now I'd like to donate them to my college library and let others enjoy them. An added benefit would be clearing space in my library and getting a tax deduction.

Shomeret | 45 comments I am drowning in books. I keep on donating them to the library or posting them to Paperback Swap, but I'm always getting new ones. It's an addiction that harms no one except my wallet.

Ivy (luvbug) With a TBR pile of 300+ books, down from over 400 last year, I am reading them as fast as I can. I always have a book in my hands. I have dial up for internet connection so keep a book handy to read while waiting for the site to load, or when we go anywhere I take a book to read while hubby is driving down the road. I was able to read 120 books that way last year and have over 50 read this year. I have a major problem with not adding to the pile as fast as I read them so have to stay away from garage sales this time of the year or any other kinds of book sales for that matter. Doesn't help that my hubby works at a retirment home and alot of the residents know that I read and so when they finish their books they send them home with him to me. Some of them are books by authors that I don't care for so I post them as available for trade here and at paperbackswap.com. But when they are requested of course I have to order another one. I am trying not to reqest any until July and so far it has been a bit of a struggle but am finding that I am sending out more then I am requesting so the pile is going down a bit.
