Jane | 206 comments I have now finished WLT A Radio Romance by Garrison Keillor which was 414 pages. It doesn't count towards any theme.

That means my total pages read now is 744 pages.

message 152: by Diane L (last edited May 08, 2013 07:08AM) (new)

Diane L Finished The Da Vinci Code this morning for another 490 pages.

The official spreadsheet thinks I have completed my challenge but our count is correct. Somehow I think a 982 page book that I completed early in the morning before the RAT started did not show in my starting page count.

Go Jane! Go!

message 153: by Steven (last edited May 08, 2013 07:12AM) (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Evana, I have your new page count at 2923/3000.

That's 240 + 713 + 180 + 272 + 292 + 419 + 317 + 490. Does that sound right? Or does that 982 page book need to count for the RaT?

message 154: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Edited previous post, forgot the 317 pager you finished yesterday.

message 155: by Diane L (new)

Diane L The 982 should not count for the RaT. My count agrees with 2923. Working on Knight Life to take me over that 3000 mark.

message 156: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Okay! :)

Awesome work!!

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Quick update for everyone:
Here's an official update from Mango Tango:

Alba was removed from the Read-a-thon, due to inactivity in the group since the day she joined a few weeks ago. This was previously discussed with Moderators Sonia and LK.

Evana has read 2923 out of 3000 page goal, and has read her color and her theme book.
Theme: Angels & Demons (Robert Langdon, #1) by Dan Brown Color: The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister

Steven has passed his goal of 750 with 901 pages, and has read his theme and color books.
Theme: Stardust by Neil Gaiman Color: A is for Alibi (Kinsey Millhone, #1) by Sue Grafton

Barb updated her goal to 2500 pages. She has read 2251 out of 2500, and has read her theme and her color book.
Theme: Well-Schooled in Murder (Inspector Lynley #3) by Elizabeth George Color: I Declare Proclaiming the Promises of God Over Your Life by Joel Osteen

Jane has passed her 1000 page goal with a page count of 1192, and has read her theme and color books.
Theme: Virtual Evil (Time Rovers, #2) by Jana Oliver Color: Queen of Sorcery (The Belgariad, #2) by David Eddings

Karla has upped her goal to 1000 pages. She has beaten her 1000 page goal and sits at 1258 pages, and has read both her theme and color books.
Theme: The Watcher by James Howe Color: A Mango-Shaped Space by Wendy Mass

Nancy has read surpassed her 600 page goal and is at 1150 pages, and has finished both her theme and color books.
Theme: Feed (Newsflesh Trilogy, #1) by Mira Grant Color: The 100 Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson

Sallie (Shuga) has passed her 750 page goal with 988 pages, and has read her color book already.
Theme: In Progress Color: Swimming Without a Net (Fred the Mermaid, #2) by MaryJanice Davidson

TEAM PAGE GOAL: 10215/9600 pages.

✔=met page goal

message 158: by Steven (last edited May 08, 2013 12:23PM) (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) So to recap:

We've met our team goal! GO US!

We need one more theme book (from Sallie) and one more color book (from Jane), and then our theme and color books are done!

Jane, Barb, and Evana are all VERY close to meeting their page goals. Once they do, we'll have DEMOLISHED this Read-a-thon!!! :D

*edited because I apparently can't spell "theme" correctly!*

message 159: by Barb (new)

Barb I'm saving Steven's post in message #157 to update my records when my brain settles down a bit from the crazy nutso day I had at work today :)

My current book weighs in at 432 pages, which will put me over my 2500-page goal, yay!

message 160: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) GO GO GO! :D

message 161: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments I have also finished another book today. Should have a done some housework today but ended up reading instead LOL.

So I finished Queen of Sorcery (The Belgariad, #2) by David Eddings which is 448 pages and count for color.

Yipee I have now completed the RaT with 1192 (if my caculating is right) pages.

This will not stop me reading, I am going to continue with the next book in this series.

message 162: by Barb (new)

Barb Yay Jan, congrats to you!

message 163: by Karla (new)

Karla Should we still post our page counts even though we have passed our goal?

message 164: by Barb (new)

Barb Sure, why not? It'll be fun to see how much we *do read, I think :)

message 165: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Yes definitely keep posting page counts until the RaT is over!

message 166: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Awesome job Jane!!!! :D

message 167: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) So we've got Barb and Evana to meet their page goals (and they're both really close and definitely will)... and Sallie to read her themed read, and we'll be good to go!!!!

message 168: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Updated my most recent post to include Jane's finishing!

message 169: by Barb (last edited May 08, 2013 06:11PM) (new)

Barb Steven, you're doing a better job of keeping up with everyone's updates than I am lately, so I think I'm going to hand the reins back over to you for the duration. It's probably a better idea anyhow as we near the end of the RaT, so you can post our updates in the official thread :)

Does anyone remember what time on May 12 this ends?

message 170: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) I don't remember the time but I will find it first thing in the AM when I'm back to my computer!

message 171: by Barb (new)

Barb Since that's Mother's Day and my family has something planned for the afternoon, I hope this ends in the morning :)

message 172: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) I think it does -- I think it ends the same time it started (11 am EDT for you and I)

message 173: by Barb (new)

Barb Steven, you'll be happy to read that I *finally finished The King's Deception (Cotton Malone, #8) by Steve Berry The King's Deception! You can add another 432 pages to my total; if my math is correct, that puts me over my goal :)

Do we really have to wait another year for the next adventure??

message 174: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments Sometimes when I start a series, I just keep reading till I am finished. I have now finished book 3 in the Belgariad series and intend to buy book 4 and 5 today and being me I will most likely finish them before the end of the RaT. I just have to figure out the exact end time here in Greenland.

Back to facts:

I have finished Magician's Gambit (The Belgariad, #3) by David Eddings which adds another 448 pages to my total.

message 175: by Barb (new)

Barb According to google, it's now 11:08am on Thursday in Greenland, while it's 9:08am on Thursday here in Pennsylvania. If the RaT ends on May 12 at 11am my time, that would be 1pm your time -- I think?

message 176: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Barb wrote: "Steven, you'll be happy to read that I *finally finished The King's Deception (Cotton Malone, #8) by Steve Berry The King's Deception! You can add another 432 pages to my total; if my math is correct, that puts ..."

Yes, another year. Just think, King's Deception is the first one in TWO years, as last year he wrote a standalone. Columbus Affair was REALLY GOOD, but I missed Cotton :) I did like the new protaganist though. Hopefully he shows back up.

message 177: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) According to the Moderator's Read-A-Thon details, it ends at exactly the same time it started on May 12. :)

message 178: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) So, quick recap:

Evana is 77 pages from her goal (easy peasy!) and Sallie has to finish her theme book.

And then we're DONE! :D

message 179: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments Thank you Barb and Steven.

That seems right and it means that there is 3 days left of the RaT.

Loads of time to read.

message 180: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) I should have set my goal a little higher, but with my work randomly being crazy busy (and thus my evenings I can't focus on the book) I chose a moderate goal. But that's okay, because I'm still reading like crazy every spare moment I get!

message 181: by Barb (new)

Barb We still need to think about the overall Tower challenge, so continuing to read as much as we can is a good idea :)

message 182: by Barb (new)

Barb Steven wrote: "King's Deception is the first one in TWO years, as last year he wrote a standalone. Columbus Affair was REALLY GOOD, but I missed Cotton :) I did like the new protaganist though. Hopefully he shows back up."

I liked him too, but I'm not sure I want Berry to work on two different series. Baldacci's done that, and it was hard to bounce back and forth between two different sets of characters, circumstances and places. Come to think of it, Baldacci's *still doing it, with the John Puller series (which I love, John Puller is right up there with Cotton Malone, IMO) and the Will Robie series, which I haven't quite gotten into yet.

message 183: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Barb wrote: "We still need to think about the overall Tower challenge, so continuing to read as much as we can is a good idea :)"

Yes, I'm worried about burnout, and also worried about being more active in other areas of my life this summer!!! X)

message 184: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) I'll check out the John Puller.

I really want the protag from Columbus Affair to join Cotton Malone on an adventure!

message 185: by Barb (last edited May 09, 2013 01:21PM) (new)

Barb Steven wrote: "I'll check out the John Puller.

I think you'll like him :) The first in the series is Zero Day, followed by The Forgotten. It's a relatively new series, so there are only two books so far. It won't be hard to catch up!

I really want the protag from Columbus Affair to join Cotton Malone on an adventure!"

That could be fun!

message 186: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments I have finished Castle of Wizardry (The Belgariad, #4) by David Eddings which is another 386 pages for my total.

My excuse for reading all day today: It is a Bank Holiday and then there has been a snowstorm most of the day.

message 187: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Wow, Jane, you just tear through books like they're short stories!!!

message 188: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments Yes, I will have a week of hardly any reading and then suddenly lots of books in no time.
Also I better make the most of this week before going back to work Monday.

message 189: by Barb (new)

Barb Jane wrote: "My excuse for reading all day today: It is a Bank Holiday and then there has been a snowstorm most of the day. "

Sounds like a good excuse to me -- although I have to admit, I shuddered when I read the word "snow" *shuddering again*

message 190: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) We didn't get hardly any down here this year. I could have used a snow day from work. X)

message 191: by Barb (new)

Barb Come on up here, you'll get lots of snow days :)

message 192: by Diane L (new)

Diane L Finished Knight Life (Modern Arthur, #1) by Peter David Knight Life by Peter David, 343 pages in my edition.

That should finish my 3000 page commitment. I have another book just over half done and should have no problem finishing it tomorrow.

message 193: by Barb (last edited May 09, 2013 09:09PM) (new)

Barb Well done, Evana!

Thanks for some huge traffic snarls due to a major accident in the area early this morning, I spent a lot more time in the car today than usual, and I finished Major Pettigrew's Last Stand (358 pages) on my way home from work this afternoon.

This is what our area is dealing with, and it sounds like it won't get much better for at least the next few days -- possibly longer.
Tanker Crash and Fireball

Thank goodness, the only injuries were "minor burns" to the driver of the truck! If this had happened even an hour later, it would have been much, MUCH worse!

message 194: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Barb wrote: "Come on up here, you'll get lots of snow days :)"

Tempting... X) I need a change from my job!

message 195: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) All right, everyone! We just need Sallie to finish her theme book and then we are DONE! :D

AWESOME WORK EVERYONE!!

message 196: by Diane L (new)

Diane L Completed Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld Uglies, 425 pages.

Working on Before I Go To Sleep by S.J. Watson Before I Go To Sleep by S. J. Watson.

message 197: by Barb (new)

Barb Oh I loved Before I Go To Sleep; it still 'haunts' me now and then! I read somewhere recently that they're making a movie of it, but I have to wonder how true they'll stay to the book?

message 198: by Jane (new)

Jane | 206 comments Finished The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury 243 pages.

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) Finished my "Theme" book: Plum Spooky by janet evanovich....384 pages....did I finish in time?

message 200: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) Yeah you did! We have until Sunday at 8am PDT (whatever time that is your time) :)

WAY TO GO GUYS!!! WE DID IT! Let's keep reading and attacking our page counts!
