Voldemort a text-book psychopath?

Voldemort is basically a portrayal of a text-book psychopath. He was power-hungry, sadistic, and had no real friends, but he was also charming, manipulative, and cunning. He had no empathy or remorse. He had no concept or desire for love and friendship. I think JKR was modelling Voldemort's character on a psychopath. Now that I think about it though, many of the main villains in books and film appear to be based on the psychopathic personality.

Discuss: How JKR came up with Voldemort's personality.

I would argue that Voldemort is a textbook sociopath as opposed to a psychopath. Psychopaths are much more impulsive and risk-taking. Voldemort is very much the planner and patient person, waiting YEARS to exact a precise plan of revenge with many moving parts.
