So I'll do the first comment... To be honest when I'm reading material with an Islamic topic, it are mostly articles I find on the net. So there are very few books that I've read that have an Islamic dimension... But one of the best ones was: la ta7zaan by aidh alqarni- English title: don't be sad.For articles: check out the articles on the website of Jasser Auda, www.jasserauda.net. There are some great articles on his website.
Cheers
N
wa 'alaykum assalaam,Alhamdulillah, this is a nice topic. I'd like to add a few non-Islamic books that have direct relevance to Islam. I personally feel that these books need to be ready by every Muslim because despite being written by non-Muslims, they do a good job of showing the wisdom of the Shari'a, boosting one's iman, and also calling one to action:
"Amusing Ourselves to Death" by Neil Postman on the dangers and damage that modern media has on our way of thinking: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/74...
"The Omnivore's Dilemma" by Michael Pollan on the food industry in the US (and largely in the West):
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/31...
"A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn - a very popular book on some of the less known sides of American history:

As for Islamic books in English, ones that come off the top of the head are translations of Ghazali's Ihya - something you would appreciate if you like "Don't Be Sad":
Remembrance of Death and the Afterlife: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/49...
Disciplining the Soul and Breaking the Two Desires: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25...
Also Hamza Yusuf's "Purification of the Heart":

I think that's enough for now :) JazakumAllahu khayr!

My name is nadir and i just joined this group (and gr). I spend daily two hours in train as I travel to uni and home. Most of the time I read quran/books/articles on my iPhone. So this is a lot of reading time. Since there's such a big community here I would like to get the best out of it:p
So this is my proposal:
Post your finest Islamic book, or a just book that has to do with Islam (also novels) here in a comment. If everybody does this, we should end up with a nice list of books:)
I could not find a similar post like this one in this group, so that's why I started it. I hope to see many great titles posted here:)
Thnx in advance!
Ps: excuse me for the weird English (I live in the Netherlands but both my parents are from morocco (rif) )
