Clockwork Princess
question
Do not read if you have not read clockwork princess. I have a question or two could you help?
Yea I think it got to the point where he was going to die so that was his final option, he decided in that moment, not necessarily to become a Silent Brother, but to try the last possible thing that could save him. Maybe the reality of dying hit him in a way it hadn't before, and he realized he didn't want to leave, even if it meant life as a Silent Brother.
I guess he knew someday a cure could be found, since he kind of mentions it when he comes back to the Institute to say goodbye to Will and Tessa. Maybe that hope kept him going too, no matter how small it was. That he might be mortal again one day.

The way I understood it Jem had never wanted to be a Silent Brother but when the only options left to him were to become one or die he chose to go through with it because of the chance that a cure would be found later on. I'm not sure if there was ever a time when he really changed his mind about not wanting to become a Silent Brother as much as reluctantly agreeing to when it was the only option left. That's just the way I understood it.
