ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I was also under the impression that each participant received 1 point per book read that fit the theme and/or cover color. This is the wording that led me to believe that:

(quoting the first post): Each team should choose a theme for the read-a-thon and read at least one book representing that theme.

*1 point per book read

Each of them should read a book with a cover representing the color of the team.

*1 point per book read

1 point per book read per person is what I thought. So, I thought if I read 5 blue covers (my team is blue) I'd get 5 points, if I read 3 that fit the theme I'd get 3 points, for a total of 8 just from me toward the team's total. And if Lisa Kay reads just 1 blue book and 2 theme books, she'd contribute 3 points to the team, and so on. It sounds like there is a maximum number of points any team can reach, but the way I understood it, I thought the total was open-ended. HOWEVER, I think I may have misunderstood and maybe the wording just needs to reflect that it's 1 point for a theme, 1 point for a color, rather than '1 per book read'?

(I know Sonia is at work so I'm not expecting a response anytime soon, just posting my thoughts so I don't forget later)

message 103: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda | 550 comments This is a little confusing to me. I thought this was a read-a-thon based on pages read. If it is books read, maybe a point system for these books should be based also on page count. It's getting complicated. Thanks mods for working so hard and providing such motivating challenges and games. I really appreciate your enthusiasm and volunteerism.

message 104: by ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (last edited Apr 22, 2013 07:23AM) (new)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Rhonda, I think the books read for theme/color are just additional options. It sounds like we just have to read UP TO 2 books (1 color, 1 theme) to get those specific points (which looks to amount to 2 total points), but you get your 'points for pages read goal' if you read ANY books/pages toward pages goal. (I'm only guessing, since I'm not Sonia...maybe I shouldn't even guess since i'm still cloudy!)

Points for:

*1 point per member reaching goal
*20 points if 50% of the team members reach page goal
*30 points if team goal is reached
*50 points if all the team members reach page goal

I just hope I don't have to keep track of points, haha. I don't like point systems, too much math for me. lol

Lára Can I participate but without getting points or being in any team? Just for fun.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments I have a question.... Being a student in a little shared flat, I don't have much bookshelf space so most of my books are in ebook format. If there are any cover hunts or 'build a rainbow with the covers' type mini-challenges, can I use the covers on GR and take a photo of them on the computer screen and use that?

message 107: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ We need clarification on cover color "mauve".

Would any of these covers be acceptable?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Sorry, all. I'm hesitant to jump in here and answer questions, because this is Sonia's baby. However...I'll try answering a few, as I know she is in a big project at work. Also, I'm going to be answering from my account, as opposed to the Mod Account.

Barbara ★ wrote: "We need clarification on cover color "mauve".

I would say all of the are acceptable, except for Vows, Vendettas and a Little Black Dress (A Sophie Katz Murder Mystery #5) by Kyra Davis .

message 112: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments I'd also like to know if you get multiple points for a theme or color books. I will also say that some the colors are easier to find than others so I'm not sure that it is totally fair to give extra points beyond the one.

Also, can you clarify for the mini challenge --- do we need to take real photos are could we just do something using GR links. Not everyone has access to a digital camera or knows how to upload photos.

Thanks!

message 113: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments I'm "repeat" posting this here, as NOT all of you are reading the Captains' Info thread:

Alas, we are going to have to wait for Sonia to weigh in on the question of graphic novels.

I can see where the confusion comes, as we are NOT accepting picture books for the Tower Teams Reading Challenge, unless they are children's "chapter" books -- which are ones with small pictures at the beginning of each chapter. Plus, we do a word count on those, NOT a page count, before they are accepted. I'm not even sure graphic novels provide that information. Maybe someone knows this?

However, Sonia did post this under message #6, FAQs :
9. For the read-a-thon does it matter about the books page count? Like can we read novella's and books under 160 pages for this since we are only calculating pages read?
Yes, you can. But don't tag it on the challenge's shelf, because is not eligible to the challenge, OK?

It's a limit of one suggestion per team.

From Message #2: Mini-Challenges & Games

*Only one Mini-Challenge & Game allowed per team so give us your best shot

From Message #6, question 8:

Each team can come up with one mini-challenge idea for earning 5 more points.

No prob! This thread's at 3 pages long, some of the stuff is buried and hard to find or recall sometimes. I only remembered those because I've checked out that info about 500 times, lol.

I'm trying to remember where we post our list of participants, theme, etc? I thought I saw a note from Sonia saying where to post it but I can't find it. Was it in here? Or somewhere else?? Thanks!

Sonia has been having Internet problems. She has contacted her provider and hopes to catch up this week-end.

BTW, for those of you worrying about members who have NOT yet checked in at all to the challenge, you will see me gradually moving them to Cadet Blue or Banana Mania. Therefore, you will NOT have to worry about them as non-participants.

message 117: by Monica (new)

Monica (nutz4reading) So we are able to submit a mini challenge and a game? Or can we just submit a mini challenge?

I also want to make sure that the captains are supposed to post the participants in this thread or should we send them in a PM.

Yes, you can, I'll be adding and independent participant list. But if you choose that, your points and goals will be excluded from your team's totals.

Yes, please.

message 128: by JoLene (new)

JoLene (trvl2mtns) | 705 comments Can we get answers to the following questions.....
1) can we read Graphic novels for the Readathon
2) for both the color and theme --- does the team get multiple points per person if an individual reads several books with the theme or cover color. Example: I read 4 books with our theme, than the team gets four points.
(Unfortunately, I don't think this is fair for the cover color since some colors are much, much easier to find than others)

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm traveling internationally and am getting ready to come home. I need to finalize a reading list for another challenge so these questions influence what I choose.

Thanks!!

1. Do I have to make a fix list of books and as I read them I 1. Do I have to make a fix list of books and as I read them I can add or change the list/page count till 8 th of May
No. You can add them as you go. We only need know after you read them which is the book for color and theme.

2. I can start reading books prior the date or I have to wait 1. of May at 5 pm to follow the rules. I mean if GR doesn't have time but only start date lot's of people will start reading before time is on
Yes, you can. I'm aware of that loop. Since it benefits the slower readers, or the readers that don't like to start a new book before finishing the current, I let it stay. The main goal of the read-a-thon is to challenge yourself so I'm hoping that at least the majority starts the book reading close to the date.

3. Do I post books/pages that I plan to read on my page and this page both or I leave it to moderators of my group.
You can leave the participant posting here for the team captains. During the read-a-thon you can post in both threads if you like.

4. What if I make a lits with more books I can read but I red a quote- does my club loose points?
No. Posting and changing lists will not count for points. If you see the goal is too high or too low, you can always change it till the 8th May.

Yes they count. You can even choose short-stories with 20 pages - as long as the cover exists on goodreads - to color and theme. The page number is not mandatory.

However, since they don't count for the tower team's challenge, my advise is, choose those if you want or must, but read an eligible book too :o)

1)The only rule I deviate from the Tower Teams rules is the page number. All the others are still on, so no graphic novels or manga. Sorry :(

2)No. Only one point per person per color and one point per person per theme. And that is till the 50% is achieved, after that is points per team.

Don't worry about that. Ask all you need.

Yes, you are right. Goals and participation can be adjusted till the 8th.

Since there are members that have real life issues that will prevent them from participating on the RaT and others that are feeling that are letting their teams down for not being able to participate, we are debating if the rule:

An extra 5 points if all the team members participate in the read-a-thon
