message 454: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) | 3473 comments I just had a quick question about the updates...
Since the team captains/co-captains are going to be doing the validation(unless I read all that wrong), can a member count pages even if they don't finish the book? Like, if one of our members reads 300 pages of a book but doesn't finish in time, can we count the pages?
I understand it wasn't that way before because of the system you were using, but has that changed since the captains are doing the validation and have more time to tally things up?
I just want to get everything straight in my head 8)

I snuck onto the bookshelf of Leslie from Team Moonstone and snatched up The Girl in the Clockwork Collar (Steampunk Chronicles, #2) by Kady Cross because it is so pretty, I want it for myself!

Well, it really was from all of us. It just snowballed from discussion of uniforms in our Cadet Blue Team.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Some people are so clever. Like Steven... and his invisibility cloak. And I completely forgot about getting back to "safe" territory.

Cute cover! You've got me wondering if the dog is important or not. Lisa Kay, pipe in here, please. :p

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments I think Sonia plans to make a tracking thread soon. I thought I read that in here somewhere. I hope so.

I'm not even planning to send in updates in here. I was just going to post a count or something, not a complete play-by-play of every book our team reads. I figured we have our team tracking thread for the detailed stuff and we don't need to post in more than one place, it's double the work.

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 1222 comments Mini Challenge #2: Behind Enemy Lines

I went for a mosey round the bookshelves and spied upon Chris in team Moonstone.

The book that caught my eye was On Dublin Street (On Dublin Street, #1) by Samantha Young because it's been sitting on my Kindle since someone recommended it to me just after Christmas!

message 475: by Lisa Kay (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments What, Chris, no reason? Is the cover or title 'self explanatory'? LOL!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 15159 comments Oh, yes, Claire! That cover makes the book look intriguing. But then, though I don't smoke, I grew up when it was considered glamorous.

I'm such a sucker for dog books -- or even just books with dogs IN them :) I may have to add this to my TBR list.

Ashley Marie (darlingdoor) | 1733 comments Mini-Challenge #2: Behind Enemy Lines

In honor of the blue team alliance (WSH 4EVA!), I snuck a peek at Jojiwoji from Hobbit Blue's shelf!

She gave 5 stars to Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1) by Robin LaFevers , which has been on my TBR pile too long! I'm moving it to the top of the list thanks to her rating :)

message 487: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Barb, then when you *finally* get to Rollins, you'll love the most recent book Bloodline A Sigma Force Novel by James Rollins , in which they added a military guy Tucker Wayne and his military dog Kane. :)

They also have their own prequel novella to that book, called Tracker A Short Story Exclusive by James Rollins .

Part of both stories takes place from the dog's viewpoint (but it's not cheesy!).

message 489: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments Lisa Kay, James Rollins is one of my absolute favorites.

If you'd like to check out his writing style without committing to a longer series first, then try out Amazonia. It's the best of his standalones! :)

Also, read Deep Fathom after reading Map of Bones and before Black Order when reading the Sigma Series. He pulls character Dr. Lisa Cummings from his standalone Deep Fathom and adds her to the series in Black Order.

message 490: by Barb (new)

Barb I'm trying to figure out the online equivalent to sticking my fingers in my ears while singing "la la la la la... I can't HEAR you!!" LOL I really need to READ more books from my TBR list, not keep adding to it!

message 491: by Steven (new)

Steven (gallifreyan1218) | 5272 comments And, make sure to read the actual Sigma books in order. They do build on each other and story threads run through books in order!

message 492: by Barb (new)

Barb I'm a read-in-order kinda gal anyhow, so that wouldn't be a problem :)

Sonia (darktalynn) | 11599 comments Mini-Challenge #2: Behind Enemy Lines

Stealth is not my main quality, I mean, if I applied for a spy job I'll be dead before leaving the spy academy.

But I know people that knows people, so Adrian an Lissa made me a bracelet that allowed me to enter the Hobbit Hole and return safely as long as the hobbits were on a haze induced by the smoking pipes.

Main target: Ezinwanyi's shelf. Reason: she has an amazing taste on men..I mean Books! I totally meant books.

I found out what I was looking for, the first volume of Lux's series, Obsidian (Lux, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout , with a hot guy on the cover - didn't I tell you about her excellent taste on books?

Suddenly, the soft murmurs stopped. Dang, the pipes were off and the bracelet was loosing its confundus effect. What to do? What to do?

While looking in despair to the prized Obsidian, the hot guy's eyes distracted me a bit and then I knew.

I had power. Not just the Harpie wings. I had friends.
Specially a great planweaver friend that conveniently left a hidden and fitted only for me small pocket fairy.

I reach for it and suddenly I was on her hidden castle, where her personal brownie had set a special reading corner just for me, with a cozy fire and a steamy mug of hot chocolate goodness. I felt cherished. I felt at home. I was safe.

Barb, move everything back and read Rollins.

Dang, now I want to reread them all. X)

❀Tea❀ (ttea) | 9624 comments Mini-Challenge #2: Behind Enemy Lines

Since I've been discovered on my previous sneaking attempts, this time I've decided to go openly.
I've opened the door of our Hobbit Hole and stepped outside. First thing I've noticed is that our Hobbit Hole is quite smoky and that can't be all from our pipes. We don't smoke that much. (And we are currently out of leaves.) Maybe some kind of magic is in place. *shruggs* No time to investigate. I'm Hobbit on the mission.
So, munching, I went to Cadet Blue in search of cupcakes (and guys out of in uniform).

Doors were wide open so I went in. I called to announce myself, but nobody answered. Believing they wouldn't leave door open if they don't want visitors, I went in search of kitchen. Giving it only superficial glance (opening all cupboards and checking every nook) I went to check out rest of the place.

Sadly no cupcakes (or uniforms), but I did find Cowboy Take Me Away (Rainbow Valley, #1) by Jane Graves on Lisarenee's shelf. I love Jane Graves' books. I don't know how I missed this one. Lisarenee gave it 5 stars and now it's on my to-read shelf.

Mission accomplished, although not the one I set out to do, I went back to our Hobbit Hole. It's time for supper! :D

*Sorry ladies if I left crumbs behind*

message 496: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 5588 comments For updating our books read, I have started a post in our read-a-thon page tracking thread. I figured I'd update as people say they've read books and just copy/paste the info here when I have something to update. I will probably do one soon as I am about to finish a book and 2 other have already finished books.

Read-a-Thon Updates

1. New thread on the sister group for the team captains read-a-thon updates here

2. Team updates don't need to be done on a daily basis. However, on the last days of the read-a-thon (May 10 & 11 & 12) it will be advised. There is no need to list the books on the regular updates, unless they are themed or color.

3. New rule/process for tracking the read pages & goals and the updated spreadsheet will be posted tomorrow - this little mod had a very bad day at work today, sorry :(
But, as talked on the thread it will be done using the read shelf instead of the page stats.
Message #2 will be updated to reflect the new system.
