I'm guess I'm hoping to go with a publisher if I could find the interest, but self-publishing isn't out of the question. I don't honestly know anything about the business so I probably sound naive about it. Thanks for the interest. I will definitely keep you posted. Oh yeah, I do like short fiction but I'm not sure I can contain this first story to less than a full novel. I have contemplated breaking it into smaller bits. In the process of rewriting is when I think I'll be able to decide. Since I am so new, I'm open to advice and suggestions.

Well, when you get it ready, Goodreads is a great place to find people eager to give you some feedback. Good luck, and keep us posted on your progress!

Dustin Hello and welcome, everyone!!:)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Hey Adam and Evans, I love reading the crazy, weird, spooky stuff. Grew up on Fangoria, Gorezone (if you remember that one)and Starlog. Been to a few horror conventions, finally got to go to a Comic Con (it was awesome) Anyway, I am a huge sucker for horror anthologies and your ScreamScape title looks very cool. I actually have a sample of it on my Kindle at the moment. I was wondering if either of you were ever thinking of hooking up with an illustrator to create a graphic book of your work? If your looking for illustrators check out DeviantArt.com. Anyway, it's awesome to be in here and maybe I can get a title of yours up for a monthly read in one of the 2 groups I moderate, Book Freaks & Desperate BookJunkies.

Welcome again to the group! So you were friends with Rick Hautala, huh? Too cool!

Thanks for the kind words on Screamscapes, hope you enjoy it. Interesting idea you have for a comic adaptation...I'm a HUGE fan of classic horror comics and would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see any or all of my stories adapted to the format someday. Have you seen Atomic Chili by Joe R. Lansdale? Something along those lines, but preferably in color.

Maybe it'll happen someday. Right now I'm knee deep in the process of having Screamscapes produced as an audiobook, but I really like the way you think.

You're very welcome, Steven. I'm glad you're enjoying the group so far.:) I've yet to read Screamscapes (though I do have a copy,) and Adam's Vengeance By The Foot is quite good.

Evans, yeah Hautala was such a nice guy and well we can tell by how many people added something to that tribute book, just how many people his life touched. One of the things I remember of his books when I was a kid was his were the ones that were big at being printed in paperback with some really cool holographic covers. Cold Whisper was a trippy one. It had this little girl and if you turned the book a certain way she would become skeletal...Little Brothers is my all time favorite title though. Those creepy creatures gave me nightmares as a kid...talk about some great writing. Interesting tidbit, I was talking with Hautala a long while back about if he ever had plans of adapting Little Brothers or any of his other work to a comic and he and a guy named Stephen Bissette actually did have something going with it at one point. Bissette drew a bunch of story boards and such and they brought this to a comic company and they told them horror comics just wouldn't make it and didn't sell...I wonder what the guy that said that is thinking about The Walking Dead series :O) Anyway, maybe you should hunt down this Bissette guy. He's a really good artist...just a thought.
I have not seen Atomic Chili yet but will have to check it out. Oh and as comic stuff goes, have either you or your brother been to a Comic Con yet? I highly recommend it...lot's of horror readers there.

Dustin, I'll have to check out that Vengeance By The Foot.

Steven. Thanks for the interest. You can get all of my published stories in the Collection Toes Up by Adam Light for $3.99. It'll save you a few bucks overall. It will be available in paperback soon as well.

Michelle (shelld79) Hi Everyone,
My name is Michelle and I am a huge fan of anything horror or thriller related.
I have to say that I haven't actually read a really good horror book in quite a while though so am itching to find a good one.
I do have a copy of Screamscapes but haven't had the chance to read it yet. I'm hoping to very soon though!

Hi Michelle! Welcome to the group.

I hope SCREAMSCAPES fits the bill...since it's a collection of short stories and Novellas, you've kind of got ten chances at a good story wrapped in a single cover.

And Adam Light's collection TOES UP is out now, too... :-)

Hope you enjoy the group!

I haven't read all of Screamscapes yet, but I have read other work by Evans Light and Adam Light. Both have their fingers firmly planted on the pulse of modern horror, and I haven't read a piece by either yet that I wouldn't highly recommend.

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Hey Michelle, You'll love Screamscapes. I'm reading it now and I gotta say Evans has got one twisted mind ...that's a good thing of coarse :o) I don't know if you read anthologies front to back or bound around in them but Gertrude was very creepy. I think Evans and Adam need to get their work optioned for film and they need Romero to do it like he did with Creepshow or maybe even just make it an animated tv show for the Chiller or SyFy channels

I love watching the Tales from the Cryptkeeper cartoons with my kids. Got the seasons cheap at Sams Club last Halloween. Good stuff, but would love to see higher quality, adult themed horror animation.

message 77: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments well at least we are both working toward this goal..so it could happen. Now if only my Pick 5 or Powerball ticket would just come through :O) Hey your on the east coast...you should play Powerball, it's always an east coaster that wins :o) When I win I plan on putting a line of author/with their creations/McFarlane style figures out. Could you imagine a McFarlane figure of Stephen King sitting at his type writer with all his creepy characters sneaking up behind him :o)

message 78: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Tales from the Cryptkeeper? Now that's something I'll have to check into. Halloween is coming soon> I take time off during the week before just to watch all the scary movies :o)

Here's what it looks like. It used to be a Saturday morning cartoon back when Goosebumps was popular. I think I picked this up for only $10, not bad for 15 episodes / 345 minutes. I'm not sure it's something I'd watch on my own, but if you've got little kids around it beats the heck out of anything on Nickelodeon or Disney, that's for sure! I think the first season is slightly better than the second, but there are some surprisingly decent stories for a show geared towards kids.

I looked last night and saw there was actually a third season that was broadcast in 1999 (the first run ended in 1994). It hasn't been released yet on dvd, but I'd finally coming out this month. Walmart.com has the first half of the season for $4.99 on pre-order. Cover art is lame.

message 83: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Thanks for the info Evans. That looks like a fun cartoon. One I could watch with my son. I'll check around at the Walmart site and amazon and my wife said to save the info :O) I think I know what we'll be buying soon he he he
Oh and just have to say Evans, Payback has got to be THE funniest, twistedest (made up a word), story I've read in a while. Yeah I have to say so far this title Screamscapes is getting a great review from me and I have already started telling people at work to check your book out. Is Payback only available in Screamscapes or do you have it as a stand alone for sale as well? Not that I wouldn't want friends to buy the whole book but if they want a quick read and I can talk them into it, I have some friends that would really enjoy this story.

message 84: by Evans (new)

Evans Light (evanslight) | 204 comments Mod
Hi Steven, glad to hear you're enjoying the book. PAY BACK is available as a $.99 single on Amazon.
As far as the TALES FROM THE CRYPTKEEPER cartoons go, stick with the first and second seasons. From what I've read the much later produced third season is much tamer and less scary.

message 85: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Cool, I'll let some people at work know about the Pay Back story and I'll check out the seasons you mentioned then. Hey I thought of a pretty awesome anime you guys may want to check out as well. Vampire Hunter D on dvd. The cover is black with a symbol in blood on it. The movie is awesome. It's done by both Japanese and American animators and took, I think, 8 years to make. I highly recommend it. It's got that gothic/Hammer Films feel going for it.

Pretty sure I watched that light years ago, Steven, and I remember thinking it was not so bad. Pretty good even.

message 87: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments There was one before it that had an old school Scooby Doo style to it but it was very dark and faded looking. But ya know it's sad that there are so few horror/dark animated videos out there. I did find some interesting stuff on YouTube at one point though. I have one saved somewhere that I'll have to get the title for you so you can look it up. I think you might enjoy it.

Angie | 65 comments One animee I really got into was helsing, both the original and at long last finished helsing ultimate. Both of them are brilliant, and when Alucard is let lose fully, just so so good.

message 94: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 56 comments Oooo, I have one disk of that Helsing anime and yes it is pretty cool. It's been hard to find the others by me. Malls have nothing but clothing shops now and specialty stores have disappeared because of the internet so I'll have to check out Amazon for those. I almost think it would be cool if someone created animated movies based off the old Universal Monster movies. I also loved the Abbot and Costello meet the monsters flicks...Dr. Jekle and Mr. Hyde was one of my favs.
