Stephen I'm finally reading this (if listening to the librovox audio version counts) After seeing the Emma Thompson / Hugh Grant version many, many times, I'm finding some aspects of the original jarring.

The movie made Edward a much more charming character and I find that I'm missing him whenever I encounter Edward in the book. Personally, I like the charming Edward better and think it makes for a more compelling story.

I'm also surprised by the number of characters that got eliminated. Mrs. Middleton is gone, as is one of Mrs. Jennings's daughters, also one of the Steele sisters. But the story doesn't seem to suffer much for their absence.

Although I did really like the way that Marianne's gift horse made its way back into the movie (as Elinor's left behind horse)

Still, the story is over 200 years old and a bit of remodeling may be in order...

What would YOU change? If anything.

I'd make it less of a chore to read.

Marren I would not change anything. If you have to juxtapose the adaptations to the novels, you may forever have a headache. When the script matches closer to the older adaptations, the acting makes me shiver in most of them.

siriusedward noyhing.thats what fanfictions are for isn't it...

MaryAnn Kempher I would have had Elinor confide in MaryAnne. I thought it was unrealistic that she didn't.

Anita Anderson I think that all those movies about Austen's novels were very unjust. She describes her characters in depth, and that's what is missing in the movie. If I could change anything I would shorten poor girl's broken heart illness altogether, no man is worthy enough for a girl to almost die from broken heart. Everything else is wonderful and charming. I love the happy ending.
