Combining an adapted novel - or not?

Having updated this existing entry with data from Worldcat (http://www.worldcat.org/title/20000-l...), I was wondering whether this volume should be combined with other editions of the book. This version is an adaptation for children and includes illustrations by the secondary (adapting) author.

It's the version of the book I read as a child and thought I should add this to my shelves rather than keep a much later version shelved.

We combine abridgements, but not adaptations.

Thanks rivka! I was wondering if that was the case as I saw some librarian notes about not adding particular editions or adaptations.
