Kristina (spaz_girl) Here is where we can discuss Theft of Swords by Michael J. Sullivan book 2, chapters 1-4.
DO NOT post any spoilers from further along in the book, this is just for book 2, chapters 1-4. Discussing events from these chapters and previous ones though is perfectly fine.

I really like the first 2 chapters. she seems like a very intriguing character. She had a few funny lines! I thought hapter 3 was interesting but I felt like was dragged too much and too much of info dump! I sort of had a headache after reading it! Another issue I was really hoping for more myron and he still has not appeared!

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 84 comments @Shaad - Are you talking about early chapters of book 2 of Theft of Swords or book 1 of Rise of Empire? I know it is confusing because there are two books in each volume.

And yes, you'll have to wait for volume 3 (books 5 & 6) to see Myron again - but the wait will be well worth it - I promise.

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 84 comments Ah okay...interesting it's just that Rise of Empire introduces a lot of female characters and so for some reason my mind went there.

Kristina (spaz_girl) I must say, Avempartha started much slower than The Crown Conspiracy. Not in a bad way, but definitely slower; 100 pages in roughly and we are still with everyone traveling to where they are going.

I like the new characters, namely Thrace. She seems much younger than (I think she was described as) 17 though, for the setting anyways. It seems in a world like this she would be required to mature much more swiftly. Although, she is from a sort of backwater village though, perhaps that contributes. Also, she was the only one willing to go look for Hadrian and Royce, so...

As far as the church versus Esrahaddon goes,
Esrahaddon > The Church
All the way. I still think the church is the bad guy here no matter what justification they try to give.

As for our heroes/heroines:
I am thinking Royce has some elven blood in his history somewhere what with all the disappearing into shadows and seeing in the dark stuff. Him taking the assignment from Thrace threw me for a loop until he explained about wanting to know what was going on with Esrahaddon.
Arista, oh boy, I hope she doesn't fall for the church's nonsense.

Looking forward to seeing where Esrahaddon takes us...

Daniela (danielapereira) | 23 comments I agree that Avempartha is slower than The Crown Conspiracy and chapter 3 was quite long. But I enjoyed learning more about the church's plot and the other characters involved in this conspiracy. It is getting very interesting. I was disappointed on Arista. I'm finding her more naive than in the first book.

Now Esrahaddon... I love that he's back! Can't wait to find out what he is really up to. Royce having elven blood makes sense. In book #1 he seemed quite disturbed by the way that other elf was treated in the Inn, and I suspected there was some history between Royce and the elves.
