I love the originals personally (IV-VI). Feel free to express your opinion! May the Force be with you! :)

I know right! I also hated how the ewoks blink in the Bluray version. It's just wrong! :)

I try to find redeeming value in all of them because of what each adds (good/bad) to the overall story and star wars universe.

Very true. If you watch all the prequels at once your brain goes on overload and you can't think for a day and a half. It's pretty fun.

I prefer the original trilogy by far, however the characters themselves in the prequels have potential. I went through a couple weeks at college last semester/year where I tried to outline a prequel story based on what we're told in the Original Movies.
My idea made me appreciate the characters loads more.

James wrote: "I think preferences for which series you like is largely dependent on how old you are. If you grew up on the originals, you prefer those. My son who is 14, grew up on the prequels and doesn't car..."
Im 14 and I'm all for the originals (100 percent) but I do admit when I was younger I liked the new ones.

I was obsessed with Phantom Menace when it was released in theaters in 1999, so it still has to be my favourite of the prequels. Still wish I was small enough to fit into my 8-year-old Queen Amidala costume. And of course, I also loved Jar-Jar as a kid...he still holds a special place in my heart.
I saw Phantom Menace 3D in theaters a few times and you still can hardly beat the light saber battle between Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Darth Maul.../cue Duel of Fates.
I'm excited for the new films being released. I'm hopeful they won't let us down.
But still, no matter how much I appreciate all Star Wars films...IV-VI reign supreme.

I also think you are a nerd not a fan of the Star Wars universe if you still find fault in the prequels. I at one time jumped on that bandwagon and became a, "w..."
The Prequels I don't think have the proper movie qualities (character development, Antagonist vs. Protagonist, and a in depth simplistic storyline, etc.) that make a movie great. I found an interesting video on Youtube that asked a Star Wars fan to first describe the characteristics of Han Solo. Here are a few: Dashing, Smart, Over Zealous, Adventurous, you name it. Then the Star Wars fan was asked to describe some of the characteristics of Qui-Gon Jinn. Well, um, normal guy I guess, You could say that he sees the good in people but that doesn't really play a big part in the storyline. Overall Qui-Gon has a huge role in Phantom Menace but doesn't really add much to the storyline at all. I love Star Wars to death and I try to find the good in the prequels but it is really difficult unless you are 7 years old and haven't seen the originals enough to fully appreciate the beauty of them.
What I mean by "Im 14 and I'm all for the originals (100 percent) but I do admit when I was younger I liked the new ones." is that George Lucas really should have done more to please the older Star Wars fan community (not saying I'm one of them) and not just to please an age range of about 6-15 with the crazy CGI and action packed storyline.
I would love for some of you to check out the Star Wars book I am writing called Star Wars: How to Become A Bounty Hunter. The first chapter is finished but the rest of the chapters are still in a rough stage at the moment. In the storyline I really try to merge the prequels with the originals by telling the story of Greedo's nephew Zippo trying to become a bounty hunter during the Clone Wars. In the story I try to reveal some more of Greedo's character. You can read it here: http://www.goodreads.com/story/show/3...
I am loving this Greedo obsession! He's really an overlooked character. Who knows, maybe a Greedo relative will join in on adventures in Episode VII.(Crossing my fingers) ;)

Feel free to leave a comment telling what you liked and didn't like about the first chapter. You can read the rest but it is really just a rough outline of the storyline.
Thanks for your interest! It really means a lot to me seeing that I've been writing the story for more than a year now and it really hasn't gotten any attention! :)

I partially agree, but remember that I am only comparing them to the originals. It's hard to adjust my expectations when it's so hard to find the good in the prequels.
Beautifully put. I couldn't have said it better myself. :)

Im 15 and understand that the prequels are complete crap. The originals were unlike anything else when they came out, and the fact that they still hold up in today's technology makes them even better. The prequels haven't held up at all, technology or story wise. Like, the dialogue and plot progression of the prequels SUCK. As well as the cluttering of the space and the overall direction. The original trilogy was clean in plot, direction, and setting. It was perfect. (episode 7 is the same)

Episode III is a masterpiece beginning to end. Sure everyone of the movies (EVERYONE of them) can be nitpicked to death, but they are all good. Jar Jar, dialogue are easy attacks, but the same could be said of the dialogue in the OT and Ewoks. Midichlorians makes all the sense in the world. It displays just how far the Jedi have begun to separate from what they are meant to be. They have begun to rely on tests rather than what the Force tells them. They have become arrogant, bloated, much like the Senate. Just because the story wasn't what you wanted or thought it would be doesn't mean it was the story that needed to be told.
Btw, for those that don't enjoy the Prequels, take time to read The Ring Theory by Mike Klimo. You'll gain a greater appreciation of the Saga as a whole and begin to understand just how masterful of a story teller The Maker is/was. It's evident that the Ring Theory is alive and well in Episode VII too. Yippee!

Star Wars is fantasy, not sci fi, and the prequels took away all of the magic that made the originals great. It isn't jar jar I hate, or the not as good storytelling, but the fact that the cluttered cgi, overlong explanations, and inner government working whatevers tore apart the mystery of the universe
Sure there are problems with the originals, but they are still so much better. They made the mistake of over explaining everything in the prequels. In episode 4 Luke's aunt and uncle own a moisture farm. They say moisture farm and never explain it, as there is no need for it to be explained. Not knowing everything is what made the original trilogy feel so real. They fixed this with 7, as without explaining we all know what 'portions' are and how they work.
Another problem is the fact that the the prequel characters are not relatable or realistic for the viewer. You have a princess, a powerful Jedi, a boy born as the 'chosen one', and villains that side for no reason. In 4-7 you have a man that steals to make money, two orphans that live on deserted planets, a man who realizes he is fighting for the wrong side, and a villain who just wants to prove he is worthy. All of the latter characters are relatable and down-to-earth, while the formers are larger than life and hard to believe.
Everything from the cgi to the characters to the unknown details is what makes the originals far better and the prequels horrible. It is the fact that we were given something that felt real and relatable then had it taken away with poorly written backstory. So it isn't 'cool' to hate the prequels, it is how most fans feel.

So I'm just wondering why you think Star Wars is considered fantasy and not science fiction. Whenever someone says science fiction (at least for me) Star Wars is the first thing that comes to mind. The spaceships, the planets, the droids, even the fact that the Jedi and Sith use the force instead of using magic all contribute to me thinking of it as science fiction. Add to this the fact that some characters are cyborgs (think Lobot) in the original series, as well as Anakin and Luke and you've got sci fi written all over it.

Okay, thanks!

That would be super interesting to read a different take on the prequels. Do you remember how your version of the prequels was different?
