SOLVED-2 books set in NYC/Out West-sequel is in 9-11 timeframe [s]

I read two books a few year ago by the same author. I'm pretty sure in the first the couple is going through a divorce and the wife moves out west and maybe becomes a chef on a ranch or something? I think she had a bakery in NYC before she moved. I think her best friend is back in NYC and may have been a gay man? And then in the second book I think 911 happens? Any ideas? Thanks.
