Diane (danderv) | 60 comments Hi everyone. I just saw that Barnes and Noble just announced that MOBY will be put on December 10th. BUT it also showed the online price as $21.00. Is that crazy? I know that We will all pay it, many without complaint, but it annoys me that it can happen. I fail to see how the cost structure is set up. what do you all think?

the other courtney | 162 comments Is that the price for paper or hardback (or digital)?

message 3: by Crystal (new)

Crystal (coinoperatedgirl) | 17 comments that sounds like the normal price for a new release hardcover that's probably huge.

message 4: by Diane (new)

Diane (danderv) | 60 comments that is th DIGITAL price!!! It showed the hardback price@ $30. which, with the usual BN discount, might make the hardback less expensive than the digital!

message 5: by Diane (new)

Diane (danderv) | 60 comments hold on. maybe I need to double check that. maybe online price means ordering online, not nook.

message 6: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyface) | 21 comments The e-mail I got said the online price is $21 & the Nook price is $14.99... I'm assuming that's for a hardcover copy.... sounds about right to me...

message 7: by Erica (new)

Erica (butterflygirl1975) | 99 comments Amazon has the Kindle price listed as $14.00, hardcover $21.00, page count 1,008.

message 8: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) I've noticed all books going up lately. E-books by any best-selling author seem to be $12.99 and up, with $14.99 for authors like Evanovich, Ward, and Gabaldon. Let me tell you, I'd rather pay $14.99 for MOBY by Gabaldon then that price for Evanovich's latest Plum at less than 300 pages and nothing new or different.

But yes, *grumble*, book prices are definitely going up.

message 9: by Erica (new)

Erica (butterflygirl1975) | 99 comments At LEAST the Kindle price is lower. I get so annoyed when I see a book that is the same price for the ebook and the paperback.

message 10: by Diane (new)

Diane (danderv) | 60 comments yup..I am grumbling too. what's worse, is that it won't stop me from the purchase, generally. and I know MOBY will be worth it. I have been borrowing more e-books from the library though. being from the LA area, I have a membership to three different library systems, so a. good assortment of e-books to choose from.

the other courtney | 162 comments Hurrumph. Well, I suppose it's preferable to feed my Amazon habit than my wine habit.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I buy the audio so it works out at $15.00 and Davina Porter is so wonderful. But amazon ca have it for $18.97 pre order (HC) and $19.99 Kindle for pre-order only. After that the price doubles.

message 13: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Diane - yes, I've made a vow to use my local library and ebook vault rather than buy everything. Unless it's a book like MOBY. Amazon will probably send me another note asking me why I've not been buying anything lately - LOL!

message 14: by Diane (new)

Diane (danderv) | 60 comments haha! I think books ARE better than wine...although, the library lets me have a bit of both!

message 15: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments I figure I do the math - MOBY is like 1000+ pages, so if you break it down that is roughly 2 cents a page of enjoyment; and it will probably take me a good 3-4 days to read (since i'll try to savor it) - which makes it a good investment

message 16: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Apr 17, 2013 05:29AM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments I don't think $21 is a lot for one of Diana's books. They're huge books and so well made. Plus, I'm sure the price is to compete with the digital market.

message 17: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments LOL, I'll be buying it in hardcover, and 21 is much better than 29. Though, I'd pay 29 for a Gabaldon book. (I've done it multiple times over.)

I'll also look around and try to price the kindle version so I dont' have to actually READ the hardcover, lol.

message 18: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments I'm the same way, Wendy! I want the hardback prettily on display on my bookshelves. I can't crinkle the kindle pages. ;)

message 19: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments LMAO! Before I got my Kindle I collected copies of Outlander. I have 3-4 copies on Mass Market Paperback. I have my original Hardcover, a signed hardcover, and the 20th anniversary Hardcover. :)

Now, I just want it on my Kindle so I can read it with ease.

message 20: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Apr 17, 2013 11:12AM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Yeah, I have the series in paperback, audiobook, and hardback as well. I'll be needing the kindle versions soon! lol I do all my repeat reading in the paperbacks.

message 21: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I actually have them all in Kindle, lol.

I have all of them in Mass Market and hardcover too, but Outlander is the only one I will buy no matter whree I see it.

message 22: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments I want to own them in kindle, but it has to be little by little. :)

You might want to check out the audio version at audible.com. They are normally 14.99 for members, but if you are not a member already, you might get a special introductory price. Davina Porter does a wonderful job of reading Diana's books.

message 24: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments It is Written in my own Heart's Blood. This is what Diana said:

"I call the book MOBY for short. My Own Heart’s Blood = MOHB = MOH-B = Moby. Geddit?"

message 25: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments LOL, yeah it didn't make sense to me either until she explained it.

message 26: by Jen (at last!) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments Diana's so clever. I love her.

message 28: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (mandalou31) | 11 comments Try Book Depository UK, I pre-ordered for $15.48 free shipping to Australia from UK.

message 29: by Fawn (new)

Fawn | 404 comments I WILL have the hard copy, paperback, Kindle and audio and most likely an extra paperback for lending out. I know I need to go to Outlander rehab, but I doubt I ever will!

message 30: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments No need for Rehab... haha! I also have copies I lend out.

message 31: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Byrd | 1 comments I love seeing that lots of you have hardback and paperback. My husband thinks I'm ridiculous for having both but I don't want to wear out the hardbacks. I haven't embraced the Kindle yet but I'm sure I will eventually.

message 32: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments Oh I LOVE my kindle... I always have Jamie & Claire with me wherever I go. :)

message 33: by Fawn (new)

Fawn | 404 comments Me too Leea, If I am ever stuck waiting anywhere for any reason I have not only the Outlander books, but a lot of books to make waiting not so bad.

message 34: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (momofces) | 8 comments So am I reading it correctly, MOBY isn't due out until March 2014 now? I just finished Echo... hoping for a fall 2013 release. Maybe they are trying to coordinate the new book with the start of the STARZ series?

That's the common thought.

message 36: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments Maybe but the series will start with Outlander so there are a few books in between ;) I've been waiting (like most of these ladies) since the realease of Echo for MOBY... Trust me it's painful!

I was just thinking it might be a reminder to sign up for STARZ to watch the series as people are getting the most recent book! Oh well... guess I will have to try a few of the other books. For some reason can't seem to get myself to buy the Lord John series, I need my Jamie and Claire fix, LOL.

message 38: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 155 comments Lynn wrote: "Maybe they are trying to coordinate the new book with the start of the STARZ series?"

Diana stated this was precisely the reason why the book was pushed back. At least we know we won't have to wait until September 2014 to start watching the show! :)

Lynn wrote: "For some reason can't seem to get myself to buy the Lord John series, I need my Jamie and Claire fix, LOL."

Even if you don't read the rest of LJ's books, The Scottish Prisoner is a pretty good Jamie fix!

Agreed!

message 40: by Lynn (new)

Lynn (momofces) | 8 comments I will look into the Scottish Prisoner, I was thinking about it before... thanks :)

message 41: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments the kindle version is listed as 14.99 right now on amazon

Jess ✨ℬℴℴк ∞❤∞ ℒℴvℯr✨ (jbooklover) | 17 comments I see a lot of complaints about the price being $21 and was just curious how many of you would still buy it at $42, double that. I know I would in a heartbeat and still think I was getting a bargain. Diana's books are worth so much more than you pay. At $21 bucks you are only paying 2 cents per page. That is pretty darn cheap.

message 43: by Donna - Rosies.ReadingNook (last edited Jul 27, 2013 06:52AM) (new)

Donna - Rosies.ReadingNook (dantaramian) I find it interesting that they have it at 1008 pages. Not sure if Diana has even finished the book, including any rewrites.

I will not only buy the kindle version but the audio and will most likely order a signed copy from the Poison Pen ..

I thought the same thing. Maybe it will be even more! I think everyone would love that.

I, too, plan on getting the Hardcover, audiobook, and ebook versions of the new novel.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

I plan to buy it both in hardcover and on Kindle--no matter the cost!

message 47: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I don't care how much it is, I'm buying the hardcover!

message 48: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments lol!! I know right, I want my husband to buy it from the poisoned pen for me. I keep dropping hints, we'll see.

message 49: by Gwennie, biblioholic (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments signed?

Jess ✨ℬℴℴк ∞❤∞ ℒℴvℯr✨ (jbooklover) | 17 comments I think I need to start hinting to my mom the same thing but not sure if it will work because my Birthday is 7 days prior to the current release date :(
