Hi,my name is Charlton.I pretty much only read books of the fantasy genre,it IS my favorite.
Some of my favorite authors are
David Eddings
Raymund E.Feist
R.A.Salvatore
George R.R.Martin
Stephen R.Donaldson

And then there's some Terry Brooks and some Terry Pratchett.

My favorite is The Thomas Covenant series,it introduced me to fantasy.

Charlton -- gotta agree with you on the Thomas Covenant series -- one of the best I've ever read. I can say it influenced my writing of The Riddle of the Jade Collar (see on Goodreads).

message 104: by Andreas (new)

Andreas I've been quietly here since a month, so it's time to introduce myself:
I'm Andreas from Germany, 43 years old and working as a software architect.

I've been reading and reviewing much in the 80s but nearly stopped reading later on. Just recently, I quit computer gaming (oh, those MMOs take lots of time) and now, I'm raiding books :)

Tolkien, LeGuin, Vance, Frank Herbert, GRRM, Sanderson - those are my favourites. I don't like horror at all, detective/mystery stories not much and I don't care about YA.

David Houpt | 10 comments Welcome Jason, Den, Brenda, Charlton, and Andreas! (and anyone else new I missed)

MMORPGs are a huge time sink, indeed! I had completely stopped writing because I was spending so much time setting up raids (I was a raid leader, an even huger time sink....) and dealing with guild situations.

I finally realized that if I wanted to get published (which, thanks to Kindle Direct Publishing, I now am; it's a paradigm change from 10 years ago, I can tell you) and if I wanted to finish other novels, I'd have to make a choice between World of Warcraft and being an author.

I'm happily at work on Vol. 2 of my novel -- though sometimes it's not "happily," as any of you that are writers know -- and while I miss my DK and playing with my online friends, I'd have to say I'm happier with myself now.

Good luck on your book raiding, Andreas, and welcome, again. :-)

David

D (darrentpatrick) Hi everyone!

My name is Darren and I'm, first and foremost, really happy that I found this group. Not only are you reading some excellent books at the moment, the discussion threads I'm trying to catch up on are really engaging :)

I'm also an author. My book:

The Cloudstone Key (Rithhek Cage Trilogy, #1) by Darren T. Patrick

The Cloudstone Key

...is the first of a trilogy and was released as an ebook on Amazon and Kobo on Sep 1. Exciting times to be an author and a reader nowadays! Especially with a site (and a discussion group) like Goodreads available to us all.

Hope to get to know you all a little better as we chat!

Darren

message 112: by Amy (new)

Amy (amanahan) | 16 comments Hello, everyone. I joined the group a while ago, but I'm just now trying to get involved in group discussions. I've become more and more interested in fantasy and historical fiction novels these days. This group seem to be well organized, not too big, not too small. Discussion layout is easier to follow than some groups I've joined, and the book selections seem to really match my interests. Looking forward to reading with you.

message 113: by D (new)

message 129: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi Crystal, welcome to the Fantasy Fanatics group.

Yes there multiple books being read! Each month we 1 stand alone, 1 new release and 2 books in a series! You do not necessarily read all the books but we want to give some variety so you can read what you want to read! Hopefully that clears things up doesn't it?

By the way welcome to the group! Look gorward to chatting with you in the book discussions!

message 139: by Vera (new)

Vera M. Hello everyone! I like to read all different genre of books. My husband is probably more the fantasy fanatic, but I do enjoy the ones I have read so far. When I was a child I used to try and steal my older brothers forgotten realms books to read but I swear he installed an alarm on those since they were untouchable and he started to catch me pretty quickly!!
So far I have enjoyed some urban fantasy (Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews, Richelle Mead, Jennifer Estep).
My husband has started to get me into "real fantasy" lol. I have enjoyed Reading series like Harry Potter, Eragon, Gentlemen Bastards, and some David Eddings Books. I am reading the Brandon Sanderson books with this group and so far so good.
In other genres I enjoy a number of authors some of my favorites are probably Michael Crichton, Stephen King, Kay hooper (her FBI psychic series), Lisa gardener, Gillian Flynn, j.d. Robb. And many more but I'll just name a few :).
Looking forward to adventuring in the epic fantasies and exploring some new to me authors!!

message 140: by Lee (new)

message 143: by Dan (new)

Dan | 1 comments Hi I am Dan and I am 17 and from England. I have recently been trying to read different types of books and I will be alternating between fantasy sci fi books and classics.

Right now I am reading Oliver Twist and afterwards I will read The Wise Mans Fear by Pat Rothfuss.

Other fantasy authors I plan to read include more Neil Gaiman and I plan to start reading China Mieville.

message 148: by Drake (new)

Drake (drake2484) Hi Zak!

I am in a similar boat as yourself. I read a lot as a younger kid but got away from it with the business of life. I started really reading again just last Christmas really and found Goodreads. Goodreads has really kept my passion for books fueled. I pretty much only read fantasy books.

Being a new guy to reading and fantasy, you're about to get attacked with book suggestions from everyone wanting you to read their favorite books haha... I'm going to be one of those people that does the attacking eventually. But I'll hold off from doing it in this post.
