Kristina (spaz_girl) Hello Angie and Wade!
I look forward to discussing books with both of you.
=)

Drake (drake2484) Hi! My name is Drake and I'm a big fan of fantasy books. My real love deals with trilogies and a good series, because when you find a good story, why would you want it to end after one book?

The most recent books I've read are the KingKiller Chronicles (they were long but amazing) and Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey (all story and no developed characters). I'm currently finishing up the first book in Brandon Sanderson's Stormlight Archive. It's awesome so far but long... very long.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and potentially reading some of the books of the month (the Theft of Swords is actually on my reading list but I haven't bought the book yet).

Hans Vakker (hanalricvakker) | 5 comments Hi all -- just joined this group a few days ago and I mentioned at that time I had just published my new YA Fantasy book THE RIDDLE OF THE JADE COLLAR in March. Just wanted to let you know I am working on an author Website but it is still under construction. In the mean time I do have a FACEBOOK page and a book FAN page set up on Facebook. I have posted some clues at the Facebook sites to help folks who might be trying to solve the RIDDLE hidden in the book. Also the second book is being written at this time and the riddles continue in it.

I'm really looking forward to reading with ya'll.

Welcome to the group! Its great to hear that you enjoyed the Elantris and Promise of Blood! I also enjoyed both books!

message 59: by Drake (new)

Drake (drake2484) Hey Kala. I have yet to read Elantris but it's one I'm going to eventually get to. I'm falling in love with Brandon Sanderson's writing after reading Way of Kings, so Elantris is on my list.

Hello Drake, and welcome to the group! I just finished Elantris, and although it was my first dive into the Sanderson waters, I really enjoyed it.

Welcome Evgeny! I took a long brake from a lot of fantasy too and have just recently come wandering back into it. I haven't read Conan or Malazan, but they are on my radar.

Heya Kala. I will read just about anything too. I've joined a variety of groups on Goodreads, but this is the first one I've started and co-moderated. Hope you have fun here.

Paul Hi my name is Paul and I never know how to introduce myself in these threads! I've been reading fantasy books ever since I started reading and my favourite type is definately low-magic (GRRM, Joe Abercrombie etc). Although I'll give pretty much anything a try.

Anyway, I'm really excited about being in the group and I'm looking forward to having some good discussions about books!

Welcome Paul, my favorites are low magic books to GRRM and Abercrombie are two of my favourites! Although i do like magic system that are very original(not some LOTR copycat). ex. Mistborn, The Way of kings, Lightbringer series ... etc. Looking forward to having some book discussions with you.

Welcome Paul!
I haven't read Abercrombie yet, but he is on my list of things to pick up. As for GRRM, I just started reading him last year and only just finished A Storm of Swords a week or two ago, but so far I LOVE his work. I look forward to chatting about books with you!

message 69: by Paul (new)

Paul Thanks for the welcome guys! Shaad, Way of Kings is definately on my to read list and Kristina, I'll be interested to hear what you think of Feast for Crows when you get to it.

And welcome Allison. Sounds like there are a few GRRM fans here so you should be in good company (and I completely agree with you about Wise Man's Fear being slightly disappointing).

Paul said: "Kristina, I'll be interested to hear what you think of Feast for Crows when you get to it."

Shaad is currently doing a re-read of the series and I've decided to not start it until he gets to that book again (He is currently on A Clash of Kings). Haha =)

I pretty much fit into the same category as everyone else here when it comes to literary interest. Science Fiction and Fantasy have always been my cup of tea for as long as I can remember. My favorite authors include, Phillip K. Dick, Neil Gaiman, Joe Abercrombie, and George R.R. Martin just to name a few.

Tricia Ballad (TriciaBallad) | 2 comments Hello everyone,

I was that kid who always had her nose in a book - usually something with a sword or a wizard on the cover. I've been in literary exile for the last 10 years or so, a refugee in the war zone of life. A fragile peace has broken out, and I'm coming back to my first home: the land of magic and heroism and epic storytelling. I'm looking forward to discovering all that's new in fantasy, and rediscovering old favorites.

Thanks for the welcome - I actually got back into reading about a year ago when I set (almost) everything else aside to write. My first book is in edits now, so I've been devouring other people's stories during breaks, when I've been staring at my own for so long that the words stop making sense :)

message 84: by Eduardo (new)

Eduardo | 1 comments Hi! I'm sort of new to this whole thing so when I was tinkering with the goodread app I downloaded I came across this group which is great because I really like to read about fantasy stuff. One of my favorite authors is T.A. Barron. I've read the lost years of merlin from h and its great!

message 85: by Elise (new)

Elise I'm Elise and I have been reading fantasy since I was 9 years old when my dad handed me The Hobbit and said, " I think you will like this." Over 35 years later he was right. It's always been my favorite genre and Tolkien is the key barometer for me. I do read many other types of literature as well.

And Michael Sullivan, as one of your kickstarter backers, I am anxiously awaiting my copy of Hollow World". :)

Speaking of kickstarter, I saw these playing cards and thought I'd pass the link on because the theme is so appropriate for this group ( hope that's ok)

Look forward to following the activities here!

David Houpt | 10 comments I'm David and I'm pretty new to the whole social media environment, having avoided it as much as possible. I'm not an unfriendly guy (or at least, I don't think so); I've just been a bit of a dinosaur about this.

I'm a new author from the standpoint of having just published my first work on KDP, but I've been writing and creating stories, worlds, and characters all my life. I like to think I'm strong in the area of character development - I'll have to see what the world thinks, though.

I've been a role-playing gamer since 1975 (anyone remember blue box D&D?), and got roped into DMing after just a couple of sessions, and that's when I began writing, as well. I've written novels, short stories, campaigns, adventures, you name it.

I'm extremely fortunate to be married to a wonderful woman who is also a fantastic professional editor, and my work is much the better for her efforts.

I look forward to meeting you all and getting the hang of this Goodreads stuff. :)

David
