I am guessing it is because she doesn’t think there is anything that can be done and doesn’t want to feel pity from the brothers and their partners or maybe she is afraid she will be made to return to the fade. Halfway through chapter 29 (view spoiler)[ So I am thinking the “maichen” must be the princess and now I am thinking that somehow the princess and the Iam are going to fall in love/bond and somehow that is going to end up being he solution to the problem. After the books is called the Shadows not the shadow so makes sense that both Trez and Iam will find their bondmate in this book (hide spoiler)]
