A Thousand Splendid Suns Rationale

"A Thousand Splendid Suns" was written by Khaled Hosseini. This novel was voted to be the Best Read of the Year in 2008 and received the Galaxy British Book Award. I selected this novel for my independent reading because this book is known to capture the culture and essence of Afghanistan. I thought it would be interesting to learn about Afghanistan's culture through an actual "insider" for myself. Also, this is the second best selling novel Khaled Hosseini has written after "The Kite Runner." The Kite Runner has followed through with it's full potential in capturing Afghanistan's culture, and research shows, "A Thousand Splendid Suns," has done the same. Therefore, I found it difficult to ignore this meaningful novel and decided to give it a chance.
