See, I think The Dex Files should be read before Into The Hollow. Karina Halle gave The Dex Files to her fans as a thank you... but I read it first and found it helpful for Dex's frame of mine in Into The Hollow. I don't know if I would have been as understanding of his newfound attitude if I hadn't read his POV first.
Lori, I think you're confusing Dex Files and With the Madness? With the Madness gives you insight into Dex's frame of mind in Into the Hollow... right? And With the Madness was the 'thank you' short, not Dex Files. With the Madness she wrote AFTER Into the Hollow but it could be read before it...
(Although I preferred reading them in the order that she wrote them. I liked not knowing exactly what Dex was thinking in Into the Hollow.)
Dex Files she wrote before Into the Hollow. It's meant to be read between Demon's Wing and Into the Hollow.
I'm afraid of knowing too much of him and let some of the mistery halo goes away. On Dex Files, at 27% (view spoiler)
Sandra, pretty much that's what Dex Files is. It's certain scenes throughout the series retold from Dex's perspective.
Just a heads up for anyone in the group who is interested, the Experiment in Terror series is will be $.99 per book for the entire month of November as an annual sale.

OK, Ashes to Ashes
was... part awesome and part not-so-much? Did anyone else feel this way? It wasn't just that Dex and Perry felt a little over-the-top at times, they usually do when they're in their "zone". But the Rebecca stuff felt weird, intrusive, too prdictable, and just plain out-of-place. I like Rebecca, but I didn't like her much in this book. And not just (view spoiler). It felt (to me) as if Karina Halle was trying to set up something for a future book (the last one?) with Rebecca, but it didn't work for me here. It was sort of funny that Perry wanted Rebecca to see and hear things for herself, but the relationship and weird behavior stuff on Rebecca's part - I couldn't decide if it was just another layer to what was happening (like, if Rebecca, a non-psychic could feel it, it was really happening?) or if it was supposed to be about the relationship angle.
The cliffhanger ending... yikes! Killed me. They take Pippa way too much for granted, don't they? Is "Dust to Dust" the last EiT? Just wondering if things will resolve themselves or how/when Dex's experiences in "Come Alive"
will come in to play - the warnings.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
It sounds like it's pretty positive that that Dust to Dust will be the last one. Except for the Ada spinoff.I actually wasn't too bothered with Rebecca. I'm finding that over the course of the series I'm liking Perry even less and less. It's just getting harder and harder to get past her immaturity, for me.
But regardless of the reason, yes I agree both Come Alive and Ashes to Ashes fell a little bit flat compared to the earlier books.
I loved Come Alive. But the part where Pippa was ignored was actually dumb. It didn't make sense to ignore her.
I bought it yesterday - I think it was released on 8/11 I started it and am at about 12%. I am not loving it .... Yet.
