Yeah so did I because of his last name ;). I'm so pissed at where Halle is taking the characters right now. Plus so much feels on the surface, no real feelings being revealed. I'm at 67% and I want to scream (view spoiler)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I agree completely. Why would a (view spoiler)

message 203: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I agree. I'm already not wanting to keep reading them like this. Sad.

message 204: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) To me, this book feels like another major decision point - like "Lying Season" and most of "On Demon Wings"... (view spoiler)

Regina, I see where you're coming from in that both Dex and Perry seem to be much more shallow in this book. Their depth and richness and layers aren't as explored. I think that this book was so anticipated, that in the gorging process of gulping it down, it's easy to set aside or not notice those things. If I were to read it again, I'd likely spot more. For example, you're right about (view spoiler)

As to where this is all heading... (view spoiler)

I think that's why Ada's book is likely next. (Isn't it?) Something in-between to keep the tension and suspense, but give us a bread from all that heaviness. Maybe I'm just too much of a fan to be objective?

message 205: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I finished. It was good enough. Better than On Demon Wings and Madness, but not as good as Lying Season and Into the Hollow.

For me, I didn't have a problem seeing Perry as 3D, I could almost imagine what she was thinking most of the time. Especially when (view spoiler). I actually thought that it was funny that he thought of her as all innocence and sweet cuteness because having been inside her head we know that she's a lot darker than that. BUT, I do agree that Dex's voice isn't well suited to a whole book. I agree with Lori, I think it would have been better if the POV had switched back and forth between the two of them. It wasn't so much the lack of Perry more so that it was eyerolling to see all the 'my cock' and 'fuck her' moments in the book. It's funny in a short, or in snippets. It was overkill in a whole book. I'd say that more than taking away from Perry, I felt that it took away from Dex. He's more than just his dick.

But it was good enough. I had a good time reading it, and I'm still going to be excited for Ashes.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Oh, and Lori... I aaaaam good, aren't i! ;)

message 207: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments The ending was good. And there was a satisfying scene before the ending. I am happy about that.

message 208: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I agree completely. That was the best part. And Dex seemed to tone it down just a bit so we got a little sweetness.

message 209: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Wendy F wrote: "Oh, and Lori... I aaaaam good, aren't i! ;)"

Yes, Wendy, you ARE damn good! ;-) And boy, did I know it when get there - LOL! Now you can see why I was so anxious for you to read this book!

message 210: by Lori (last edited Jul 02, 2013 08:49PM) (new)

Lori (lorimcd) OK, you gals seem to think that the ending made up for all the shocks... but I don't quite understand why. Dex seems resolved, but I'm still afraid for them....

What do you see as next for our dynamic duo? Is Ada's book comic relief or a break until we get back to the real action?

message 211: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I finished and I agree, the end makes up for a lot of the faults going on with Dex's horny pov. lol!

Lori, I call them the dynamic duo too. so funny!!

I hope we get Ada's book because I miss reading about her and how her and Perry connect. Plus she breaks up the crazy if you will.

message 212: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LOL, I totally see why you were eager for me to read it. I was (view spoiler).

I don't think our happiness in the end doesn't mean we're still not afraid for them. I totally am. I just think that (view spoiler). All of that made up for the up and down emotion that was going on in the book, not to mention the overly horny POV we got with Dex.

And Ada's book, it doesn't sound like comic relief. Have you guys read the synopsis for it yet? ANNNNND, did you guys notice how it's now got the added title of (Ada Palamino #1) like she's planning on a spin off of shorts about Ada? Super exciting!

message 213: by Leea, Escape Artist (last edited Jul 03, 2013 07:11AM) (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I didn't notice that - off to check! I just love Ada.

I'm back... Yeah Halke must have recently changed that. Because the synopsis is different now. Also sounds like Ada is older, plus this books expected pub is 2014. So we have to wait! Veiled (Ada Palomino #1) by Karina Halle

message 214: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments What! I didn't notice they changed the publication date of it! BOO! So it must come AFTER Ashes. I don't think she's too much older though, hopefully. Maybe like 16 or 17... because it talks about her trying to get into design school.

((Leea, I forgot my phone at home today, so I'm not sure if you sent me a text but if so, I swear I'm not ignoring you, haha. I feel naked without it. If I wasn't so short on gas I might drive home on my lunch to grab it.))

message 215: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Yeah that's true. Who she meets has me Scared but excited!

Bummer about the phone!! I feel naked and lost w/o mine. So sad!

message 216: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I know! Especially with that little glimpse we got of (view spoiler).

It does suck! I went to grab it from my pocket and had a moment of panic when I realized I left it on the couch at home this morning.

message 217: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Leea, I got "the dynamic duo" from you! And it's perfect for these two.

OK, WHAT's UP with the direction Ada's book is taking? Yikes! A spin-off? I'm not liking that description. I liked "Little Fifteen" better. I agree with Leea - I like Ada because she brings "normal" into the mix, but in the very best way. She's been supportive and loving towards Perry when her mom & dad haven't been. And Ada's the one who called Dex in to the rescue in "On Demon Wings".

Makes me wonder if "Ashes to Ashes" is as final for Perry & Dex as it sounds, meaning the end of their books together to make room for Ada. And yes, I'm more than a little scared about the name mentioned in the book's description... These Palomino girls aren't going to get a break, are they?

message 218: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Lori McD wrote: "Leea, I got "the dynamic duo" from you! And it's perfect for these two..."

LOL! It's perfect for them :)

I love it, that means we'll get more Ada and we'll more than likely get P & D after their series is over with.

Nope, those Palomino girls will not get a break!!

message 219: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Since I read Come Alive (Experiment in Terror, #7) by Karina Halle SO fast and furious and then stayed mum so as not to spoil it for anybody accidently, and reading several other books since, and my rotten memory - feel the need to reread a bit. Although, reading these comments have jogged things a bit. Now I know why I felt like I od'd on Dex in this one - like what many of you have said. (view spoiler)

I read The Devil's Metal (Devils, #1) by Karina Halle and really liked it. I thought this was a stand-alone but it says 'Devils #1' like it's a series. There's a couple things here that ties in with EiT series. Won't give it away. But it was funny when I didn't get it right away, on one of them and when it came up, I was trying to remember what book that person was in...then FLASH! Boy, did I feel stupid LOL.

I see where a few of you said it's like 'Almost Famous'. Yep, you're right. It made me reach for a Led Zeppelin memoir that's been sitting on my shelf for quite awhile. Also, now I want to read Miss Pam's book. Oh, and Patti Boyd's book, about her marriages to George Harrison and Eric Clapton!

message 220: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Haha! I can't wait to read it.

message 221: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I can't wait to read it :)

message 222: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Lets do it together!

My train is finally home. I feel like drinking a really nice French white wine and eating chocolate.

message 223: by Leea, Escape Artist (last edited Jul 03, 2013 04:58PM) (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Sounds like an awesome plan but it will have to be in a few weeks. if that's okay.

Oh, Regina, I got approved for the next Thunder Point book on NG - so we'll have to buddy read that too :)

How nice! Are you off tomorrow for the 4th? I'm drinking coffee and eating veggies, trying to be good sucks!

message 224: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments That does suck. Why r u trying to be good?

My office closed early today and reopened Monday. But I had stuff to work on so I just left. And I likely will work some this weekend but I will be at home. Yes! My son is on a competitive traveling baseball team and we have a tournament all through the holiday so that will be both fun and tiresome.

message 225: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Well, Lisa, you sold me on "Devil's Metal" with the possible tie-in to Perry & Dex. Just picked it up on Amazon.

If some of ya'll are going to read it as a buddy-read, let me know. I've got plenty on my shelf to go with for now. AND I just remembered the Viking book 3 for July 9th!

message 226: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I don't need I read it now. Whenever. I also have that carr book and can read it after Into the Light by Ellen O'Connell or whenever is good. :)

message 227: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Wow! I love baseball so that sounds fun. But I know how much work it is shlepping 2 kids around, let alone 4. We're going to a baseball game tonight for the 4th, so the boys are excited for fireworks.

Oh you know me always trying to be good and I need to lose a few pounds.

message 228: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I need to lose a few more, it is really depressing. I am trying to find value in myself right now -- so I understand.

It is fun! It is so cool to see these little boys steal and play like professionals. I will share pictures and upload a video - - last tourney Sebastian had an awesome hit.

message 229: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I just want to feel good in my body and I haven't been working out at all so that doesn't help. Add to that spending each day at our neighborhood pool in my swim suite. So I signed up to run a 1/2 marathon in SF the end of Oct. So I plan on running while the boys are at school.

Can't wait to see Sabastian playing!!

Oh Regina, you'll love this. So it was time to sign up for Fall Soccer here and I sent Jim (husband) to sign the boys up because I was working. He was a little reluctant, not sure why. He calls me asking if I wanted to be team mom for both boys teams or just one? I'm like, what? He's coaching both their teams! The man kills me!!

message 230: by Regina (last edited Jul 03, 2013 05:53PM) (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Did I miss this -if someone else posted? This was posted on Karina's FB page:

Well as the excitement over Come Alive calms down a bit, I thought I'd share a few things right here: -1- I'll be sharing a selection of Come Alive scenes from Perry's POV in August -2- There will be no Little Fifteen in August but there will be the Ada Palomino series in 2104 -3- I have a lot of signed EIT paperbacks to give away, so keep your eyes peeled - 4 - As most of you know, Ashes to Ashes is back to our beloved Perry's POV (I missed her!) and Dust to Dust, the last book, is told in a dual POV with her and Dex. That's all for now!

message 231: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Eek, the pressure! I hope some of you will like Devil's Metal as much or more than I did. I'm thinking younger readers will like it more since they won't be aware of the mistakes made of getting the 70s era right. On the most part, Halle did good, IMO - got the feel right. Sorta. I know that I'm aging myself here LOL!

Leea, that's great - how involved your husband is in the kids' sports :D Mine was always too busy with work to participate and only attended a few games even. It was left to me to do all the driving, volunteering, cheerleading. Luckily, we only had 2 kids and it was mostly our son who did sports. Except for one year of soccer for our daughter. She was our dancer and piano student so I had to drive her to recitals and practice.

message 232: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Oh, thanks for that update, Regina! I hadn't seen that info before. Yay on the dual POV!! And I look forward to reading Perry's POV in Aug :D

message 233: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) So... Dust to Dust *will* be the last of Perry & Dex, at least in EiT! Hmmm... all this POV switching is going to give me whiplash. (Got Ashes to Ashes and Dust to Dust mixed up. Duh!)

Thanks for the info, Regina. I missed that on her FB page.

Lisa, no worries about The Devil's Metal. I probably won't know the diff if it's about 70s music. Have to admit, I really wasn't all that "with it" on 70s music unless it played on popular radio - on the bus on the way to or from school - LOL!

message 234: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I'll be sad when we get to the last book!

I'm actually excited for Ada's series. I'm not ready for that world to come to an end.

Can't wait to get some of Perry's POV in August!

Oh that's fantastic news! I can't wait for it all, so greedy!

message 236: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Lisa, my husband is very involved. Coaches our youngest sons baseball every year, next year both boys may be on the same team so that will be fun.

I'm very excited for Ada to get her own series, I want to know more about her.

message 237: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 27 comments Hi ladies!
I'm starting On Demon Wings (Experiment in Terror, #5) by Karina Halle today.
I'll come back later to share some thoughts with you. Besides I have tons of spoilers to catch up in this thread!

message 238: by Ladyhawk (new)

Ladyhawk Hi Sandra! Excited for you to join the madnes!

message 239: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Glad to have you! :D

message 240: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 27 comments Thank you ladies! I think I don't mind if Dex has less presence in this one (view spoiler)

message 241: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Oh join in all the Dex & Perry love :)

message 242: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 27 comments I'm 30% into On Demon Wings.
Maybe it's because I understood that (view spoiler) and consequently set my expectations low but so far I'm loving this.

I'm fairly worried and scared too. (view spoiler).

message 243: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 27 comments Finished On Demon Wings (Experiment in Terror, #5) by Karina Halle . LOVED it too!
Now reading The Dex-Files (Experiment in Terror, #5.7) by Karina Halle and so far it's great.

message 244: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I loooved Dex Files!

message 245: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 27 comments I know, I'm hooked since paragraph 1.
I was afraid to start reading Dex Files before Into the Hollow but anyway, I was commuting when I finished On demos Wings and couldn't help getting started with Dex Files. I hope they're no spoilers ahead for Into...

message 246: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 27 comments I think that everybody should know that (view spoiler). Did you know too, Wendy?

message 247: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments No, you're reading it right. It's Dex Files first, then Into the Hollow. That's how she published them, so thats how they should be read. (I think.)

I didn't know that, actually. I wish I had, but I spent the whole thing waiting, lol.

message 248: by Sandra (new)

That's what I thought. It really works great if you know that in advance.

I looked up for Experiment in Terror in GR and got the reverse order, I don't know what's the criterion they use to list.

message 249: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LMAO, usually if you look up the book series and then click into one (any of them) then click the gray series title in parathasis it'll put them in order for you.

I'm not sure why you have to go that way to get them ordered.

message 250: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 27 comments Uh, no. I was wrong. I mix up because the Dex Files synopsis says "In the Dex-Files we find a variety of scenes and chapters from the enigmatic Dex Foray's POV from books #1-6 in the series.".
