Lisa | 383 comments Thanks, Lori. I hadn't checked Halle's GR site before now and watched that Dex & Perry interview - pretty funny "didn't want to get the boat wet" LOL!

Ladyhawk Favorite Dex quote! Ah haha! Now that's a challenge! I think we should post a few! We could go romantic or raunchy.

June 23 is right around the corner. Shouldn't be to painful for those eagerly awaiting it! (Not that I'm not looking forward to it. I just managed to pace myself better than the rest of you! )

message 153: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Lucky you, Ladyhawk! Yeah, perhaps we could post our favorite Dexisms here?

message 155: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I finished Into the Hollow (Experiment in Terror, #6) by Karina Halle and And With Madness Comes the Light (Experiment in Terror, #6.5) by Karina Halle . I was really mad at him after Lying Season but I forgive him now...so excuse all my ranting about him in some previous posts.

Into the Hollow (view spoiler)

I'm off to read the spoilers in the previous posts...

message 156: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Me too -- I agree! I loved Into the Hollow, for me it was such a wonderful conclusion but beginning too. I cannot wait for Come Alive!!!!!

message 160: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Yeah, that hunter/guide creeped me out! (view spoiler)

I don't get the mustache rapist reference? Something about Perry's mustache...what?

message 161: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments It's about dex's mustache. Lol. The stereotype if a rapist or child molester having facial hair .....

message 162: by Lisa (last edited Jun 18, 2013 11:27AM) (new)

Lisa | 383 comments LOL!! Oops, I meant Dex's mustache. Oh gawd, "Perry's mustache"...ah, some facial wax maybe? I never heard the facial hair and rapist/child molester tie before.

message 163: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments Supposedly in 3 more days Come Alive (Experiment in Terror, #7) by Karina Halle will be out. I sure hope so! But I'm not seeing anything like a pre-order on Amazon yet.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments I'm crossing my fingers!

message 165: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) I think that Karina self-publishes these books. Anyway, her blog says that she's on schedule to release the book this Sunday.

So, if she self-publishes, the book won't be available for pre-order. It'll just be available on Sunday.

message 166: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments She does self publish. I am guessing she gets a better cut if we buy from Smashwords - don't you think?

I am so freaking busy at work and with personal stuff, but I WILL be reading Dex .....(sexxxxxxxxxx). :D

The last part of your post has me smiling from ear-to-ear, Regina!

message 168: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I want to re-read the series so bad, but I want to wait to make it feel new again. Although it will never be new again. :(

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LOL! Reminds me of this:

message 170: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Ha! So true! That comic strip reminds me of how Georgina read books by her *wink* favorite author in Succubus Blues

message 171: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) LOVE it, Wendy! Absolutely right. That's why I hate the way I suck the new books down, like I've been without water in the middle of this Mojave Desert for a week... I love them so much, I want to savor them. But I can't wait to find out what happens.

What a dilemma.

message 172: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments We all know we will gorge though. It isn't a choice, really.

Lori (lorimcd) TEASER from Come Alive!

SPOILER ALERT: Karina Halle's marked it, too. But if you haven't read Into the Hollow, don't click on this link:
http://experimentinterror.com/2013/06...

message 175: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I saw that! I won't read it. :D

message 176: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments oh man, i can not WAIT for that damn book!

message 177: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments me too!!!

message 178: by Kay (new)

Kay (calikay) | 667 comments I can't wait. Loved the teaser. "cum dumpster" Hahahha!! I love Dex!

message 179: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 383 comments LOL Wendy! Perfect comic strip - that is SO me too! And yes, Georgina...hahaha (good one, Regina).

Thanks for explaining the non-existent pre-order. Had me a little worried. And hadn't thought about the author's cut, etc. so will look into shopping at Smashwords if I can. It's just so damn easy with Amazon with that one click and presto! Plus, I have a gift cert to use up :)

Thanks for that teaser link, Lori! Oh man, I'm not sure I'm remembering the last book so well. May have to reread real quick!

message 180: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I Have another Dex and Perry song! Bruno Mars's Locked Out of Heaven: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e-fA-g...

message 181: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Good one, Regina! Very appropo for Come Alive, too.

message 182: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments The beginning made me think of it. :)

message 183: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments now I cannot wait to start this book... I love that song.

message 184: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) I don't think that this is a spoiler for Come Alive... if it is, Mods, let me know. But I think it's one of the BEST lines in the book - and, of course, it's Dex's:
(Dex) "Baby, doing me is always and forever a given. It's like Newton's law of gravity, or Amazon taking over the world."

message 185: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Well this just happened (view spoiler) and I'm liking him a lot more now because (view spoiler)

message 186: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments LMAO, I love that quote. I can't wait to start that book.

message 187: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I don't think Halle writes perry very well when seen through dex's eyes. She is very one dimensional. She is all tits, ass and blue eyes - and occasionally lip chewing feisty thing. That's it. I don't think we noticed this when reading the limited Dex povs because she was supposed to be one dimensional in those - we had already seen her in the main books. I am at 50% and I know have been really busy but I haven't had much desire to push ahead. I may take a break to read Piper's Son.

message 188: by Gwennie, Mrs. Bookworm (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 1116 comments Hmmmm, I'm gonna start this today so I'll have to come back and post my thoughts when I start.

I guess my only question would be, you don't think that's because we're getting a view of her that's shaded with Dex's lust for her?

message 189: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments So far - we are not getting her as a character much at all. The first 20% or so was fun - but the story feels more limited and less full as her others. I look forward to being back with perry again.

message 190: by Tellulah (new)

Tellulah Darling (tellulahdarling) Regina wrote: "I don't think Halle writes perry very well when seen through dex's eyes. She is very one dimensional. She is all tits, ass and blue eyes - and occasionally lip chewing feisty thing. That's it. I do..."

Well said. You just nailed my issue with it, Regina. I'll be glad to go back to a Perry POV as well.

message 191: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Hmmm... you ladies have me nervous. Starting it now.

message 192: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) I figured it was Dex being a guy. But then, I gorged on it and gulped it down in 3 hrs.

message 193: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Okay 36% into Come Alive (Experiment in Terror, #7) by Karina Halle and I totally see where you're coming from Regina. I just got hooked when we started getting into more of the story. Plus I've waited a long time for them To be going at it like rabbits. Lol.

message 194: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments The sex scenes are great. No question. :)

I just feel an absence of depth that Halle normally had if that makes sense. I feel like tbere are easy leaps in the story to - rather than letting it unfold. Something really interesting just happened at 63%.

I just thought the intro to rose and then the mambo was so easy. And Halle didn't have things happen so easily in other books. Not sure if I am explaining well. Sorry if I a downer.

message 195: by Lori (new)

Lori (lorimcd) Never a downer, Regina. I love your perspective. I can see how Dex's POV seems shallow - more shallow than we've seen Dex in the most recent books.

I think that I just took it in stride with all that was going on around them, figuring that Dex was overly obsessed with Perry and trying to get through doing a show with Max at the helm.

I definitely missed Perry's POV. I'd thought we were going to get the dual treatment in this book; and that would have been awesome - to see different parts through Dex's and Perry's POV.

I didn't like how everything skewed so quickly when Rose was involved, either. And there wasn't a whole lot of mystery/suspense in this one, IMO. ICK and HORROR factor yes; suspense and scare-your-pants-off... not so much. Some missed opportunities to drive it all home.

But so many pieces of things that we could only guess at are revealed. And I guess I forgave a lot for that.

message 196: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments I just met Rose... At 36% (view spoiler)

You're not a downer at all Regina, you're my voice of reason when my reading is clouded with Dex & Perry finally being together. I do wish and miss P's POV...

message 197: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1437 comments Yeah, 63% and my mind is going crazy right now. What do you thinks going to happen now?

message 198: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments After I read Pippa's story I guessed that (view spoiler). It is interesting.

message 199: by Regina (last edited Jul 02, 2013 06:52AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments I feel like there is more telling than showing in Come Alive -- like re Rose, Maryse and then (view spoiler). In the earlier books when we learned something about key characters or situations -- for example about Dex and Perry's "powers" orr Pippa's relation to the characters it would be done through showing of action/story -- not a big explanation from a character. I just don't think (here I go again) that this book is as well written or developed in terms of characters, mystery, and setting as the other books: too much tell and not enough show, mystery pretty simplistic and easy to figure out, characters are one dimensional -- like Max, Rose and Perry. This to me is unusal from how Halle has written her other books I have read.

What I like about this book:
1. The sex scenes, yes they are hot.
2. When Perry and Dex were just hanging out it was fun -- whether in Seattle or in NOLA.
3. The scene involving (view spoiler) was pretty satisfying.
4. The reveals about the characters and the world (even though the method of how it was done was just not great writing or storytelling)

So far it is a 3 star book for me. I am at 90%.

message 200: by Regina (last edited Jul 02, 2013 06:55AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) | 1447 comments Lori - it wasn't that I thought he was overly obsessed with Perry, sorry if I wrote it poorly before. I get he loves her but even through his love and lust obsessed eyes we are not really getting a full Perry -- she is always descrbied the same way -- whimpering out of fear, biting her lips due to tension or thinking, big eyes due to hurt, shining blue eyes with love, big breasts or silky/milky white skin. All that is fine but we get nothing further of her at all. If Dex really thought of her as a person or it was more fleshed out, we would get a fuller character. An example of how Halle does this really well would be how we saw Dex through Perry's eyes. It was much more complex. Reading Come Alive I have no sense for Perry as a person at all. That is what I mean. :)
