Thanks Lori! Sooo...it's in Into the Hollow where we'll see it thru Perry's eyes, I'm guessing? It's kinda strange at first making the switch from Dex's POV back to Perry's. I liked hearing Dex's side of things so look forward to #6.5.

More Max musing (view spoiler)[What puzzles me is how Perry's 1st Jacob was an actual Jacob who she went to school with that killed himself and then he became a "Jakob" guardian? I think? There's been a few Dex comments about Max "what are you? living in the 50s?" when Max asked Dex if he "made love" to Perry. And then Max's Elvis do/pompador. So I'm guessing if he's a Jakob guardian, that he died in the 50s. But I don't get how everybody can see him, like Wendy was saying. Unless he's "special" or on a special mission. (hide spoiler)] I hope it's okay to speculate here and that I don't drive you all nuts. Will try to keep it down to the bare minimum :)

Speculating is what I do - LOL! Wendy was the first to pick up on Max's (On Demon Wings) (view spoiler)[50s thing and how it keeps coming up. I knew it, but I'd passed over it, I guess. She thinks he's a rockabilly, so maybe 50s or just Elvis wanna-be thing? Dunno. But yeah, the strangest thing is how, if Max is a true Jacob/guide, living people like Ada and Perry's folks can see him. (hide spoiler)]

My speculation is that (Through Old Blood/The Dex Files) (view spoiler)[Max is supposed to be Dex's guide. But Max got mad over the whole Abby thing - 1. Dex "took" Abby away from Max (or so he thinks), even though Max had a GF at the time. 2. Dex's obsession with Abby drove her to cheat on him and then drive drunk; that she killed herself while driving drunk and wrapping her car around a tree is still somehow Dex's fault. Dex blames himself, and so does Max. 3. Dex cheated with Max's GF after Abby's death.

So the bad blood between them goes fairly deep - enough so, that IMO, Max sees Perry as a sort of revenge against Dex. When Dex went into the mental institution and got on all the meds, he stopped seeing ghosts... and Max faded away and out of Dex's life. But when the EiT series on Shownet started up, Max was tuned in; that's how the hook up for Red Fox happened - through Max.

Whether Max is supposed to now be Perry's Jacob/guide, I don't know. And it's odd to me that Pippa hasn't mentioned Max... which makes me wonder if Max is really some sort of Jacob with a body or just playing one. Unless Pippa's interference is to keep Dex & Perry together, and Max's is to break them up. (Remember Pippa's Jacob tried to get her to break up with Luddie and not have Perry's mom. I think Pippa's trying to keep Dex & Perry together, despite whatever the "Fates" or whatever in the "in-between" place want.) (hide spoiler)]

That's why the next book, Come Alive , is so interesting to me: 1. Max seems to have a big role in it. 2. It's set in New Orleans (which can be very creepy). 3. The book is from Dex's POV.

Max:(view spoiler)[Well and remember too, Jakob said that they're not supposed to actually interact with their 'charges'. He was breaking the rules to talk to Pippa. So maybe Max is a Jakob gone Rogue? Maybe he's not working for the good side anymore?

Yeah, I totally think that she keeps making references to how Max's style hasn't changed all the years Dex has known him for a reason. AND Dex makes cracks about it a lot too, about how it's outdated. So I'm thinking that he died in the 50's. It's not that I don't think anyone would be rock'a'billy in this day in age, because Terrible from Downside Ghosts is rock'a'billy, lol. It's more that she's made it a point to say he hasn't changed even a bit in over a decade over and over. People who are rock'a'billy now, usually weren't 15 years ago.

Lori, interesting you picked up on Max fading out of Dex's life when he started medicating himself! I never noticed that, I thought it was just that it was after the Abby stuff and he was angry but you are soooo right! Dex didn't need a 'guide' anymore so Max faded away, up just after the show started. The question is, is Max now Perry's guide and the Dex link is coincedence because of their connection to Pippa, or did come back to Dex when he thought Dex was seeing ghosts again... hmmmm. So many threads to post in about EiT...I'll post in this one since this has the latest activity.

I finished last night. I have to say that this is my favorite EiT book yet!! I know some of you didn't like it as much but I loved it. This book also freaked me out the most! I couldn't sleep when I was done and I kept picturing different possession movies in my head! Haha...I was scaring myself!

From the previous books, I felt were very character driven with a good balance of paranormal. With On Demon Wings, I felt like it moved up a notch with the paranormal aspects and also character development.

On Demon Wings(view spoiler)[The paranormal stuff was off the charts especially when Perry was slowly getting possessed...her waking up with a raw steak in her hands, new nail polish color, those crazy dreams about the baby, etc. Then when she was totally possessed, I was freaked out by all those spiders from her bathroom and wasps coming out of her mouth, the crazy way she was acting as her mind took a backseat to her body. All this was executed so intensely well.

When Dex showed up, I loved how he told off her parents and that he remembers everything about them and what they did in New York. Also, he believed Perry and would do anything to save her. I can gush about him all day.

Oh and Pippa being Perry grandmother...I predicted that about halfway through the book. I also am really pissed off at Perry's parents for not believing Perry. Especially if they went through all this weirdness with Pippa and all the craziness with the pig's head, the damage to the dad's office...I would think that they would be convinced that Perry may be telling the truth. Also, I love Ada! I am so happy that "little fifteen" is there to support her. (hide spoiler)]

These are just some thoughts...I'm reading about Pippa now.

I'm thinking he's like what Wendy said a Rogue Jakob, turning to the dark side after Abby's death and Dex/Kate thing. And like Lori said, Max has a revenge thing going on, using Perry as the vehicle. Into the Hollow (view spoiler)[ YAY! A Sasquatch Hunt!!! I'm so excited!! "Mr. Foot. Just call me Big. You wish!" LMAO!! And the "cockblocking" scene - loved it. Poor Paul. This book is off to a great start. Have just reached the scary scene at the Snow Crest motel. Oh man. Another guilt-ghost from Dex's past has made her first appearance. In a way, this will be SO much worse than Abby. Still waiting to see what the tatt is. Learned where it is but not what. My money is on the name "Perry", kinda mini-BDB style ;) (hide spoiler)]

I wonder how the cops wrote up that report and "solved" the case? I was sure they'd go after Perry for what happened to the study and the pig. Especially, the neighbor, owner of the pig. I hated On Demon Wings just because I hated what Perry was becoming... how she was losing herself to these "things", but she didn't even really know what was going on.

He was pretty new to the job, since he'd only killed himself a few weeks before he started turning up around Perry. And his eyes did go red and all at that party... so I don't know if he was leading her astray or what. (hide spoiler)]

It's all very confusing! Because Max is known to be in the next book, "Come Alive", I'm hoping that we get some answers about the (view spoiler)[Jacob/Jacobs/Jakob guides thing (hide spoiler)] and about Max. He's not on many "Good" lists right now, though, after On Demon Wings.

Lori, I hated Perry too for what she was becoming but that is also why I loved the book so much. I loved how the author executed the changes in Perry and she scared the shit out of me! Hahah!

I knew from the beginning that he wasn't genuine and in the back of my mind, I had a feeling he was getting at Perry to get at Dex. Gah...what a fucken asshhole. I also think that Perry wasn't really herself so I don't think she would have fallen for Max's tricks so easily. But I was happy when Dex punched Max. I love it when Dex shows that kind of emotion especially when it comes to Perry. (hide spoiler)]

We really need to work to keep these threads free of spoilers, even if were doing what Lisa did in post 57 so people are aware of what book or person we're talking about before they click the spoiler. That way all readers, no matter what book they're reading, can come safely in and post their own thoughts without worry that they'll inadvertantly see something that ruins an aspect of the book for them. I know it's hard to do when you're excited about a series so maybe a reread before you hit post just to make sure that we're protecting the joy of the read for other members.

It definitely fits his personality but I was just so pissed that he was (Lying Season)(view spoiler)[still technically with Jen when he hooked up with Perry. Before that, he gave her so many signs of "you're beautiful", "you're amazing" and made it seem like he really cared about her but at the end, he was an asshole. That part was just so conflicting for me even though I knew he did that b/c he was scared. Like you said, "Man Up!" That's really what he needed to do. (hide spoiler)]

Dex in Lying Season... yes and no. That's why I appreciate several of those scenes, especially the climactic one from Lying Season in The Dex Files from Dex's POV. I felt horrible for her, but after she messed with his meds, and then his head over not being able to admit her feelings... well, at the time, I took it in stride as Dex behavior. Yep, what Lori said. Lying Season spoiler, (view spoiler)[I was upset with Dex, but I was upset with Perry too. They constantly hurt each other, I mean think of the things that Perry said to Dex in Dead Sky Morning, AND she punched him in the face. Was he a jerk for taking her phone, sure, but to warrant a broken nose? And sure you could lay the blame on the magic on the island, but it isn't the first time that Perry plays passive agressive, or even agressive agressive with Dex. For me, the fucking with his meds was way worse. What Dex said was assholish and hurtful but it wasn't dangerous. She had no idea that that wouldn't have severe repercussions on him. And from the moment she swtiched the meds I just felt sick to my stomach, it was so wrong! So for me, I was angry at both of them, and I was sad for both of them. They both made soooo many mistakes (hide spoiler)].

Yeah, after reading the Dex Files, you see Dex's side of things and why he acted the way he did. Still didn't warrant his behavior. And I felt Perry over reacted. All the time I was expecting Abby to show and wondered if she had anything to do with the strong emotions going on. But maybe not. When Perry switched Dex's meds, I had a bad feeling. She seemed pretty aware of the possible consequences and still did it anyway, thinking she would replace the placebos with the real ones if things got too bad. Jeez. (hide spoiler)]

On Demon's Wings - (view spoiler)[I still think that Abby had something to do with her explosion at that point. I think something happened when Perry went in feeling insecure because Dex just walked off, and the weakness at feeling insecure is when Abby possessed her. I mean, if you actually reread what he said, it was short and it was mean, but her reaction was so extreme. Her reaction was more fitting for, like, if he had said something about her being fat or how she didn't compare to Jenn, or I don't know, something really bad, haha. See, we don't know what Dex was thinking in that moment but it was obvious to me that he was freaking out. The expression on his face after the sex and the way he just walked out like he was panicking. Perry knows what he does when he's nervous. She'd seen him do the exact same panic actions for a while now, and I just don't believe she wouldn't have seen that he was in freak out mode and slamming up walls. So, I think she was already possessed at that point and Abby was fueling her anger. At the very least, I don't believe that Perry would have taken so long to let him explain. She certainly wouldn't have changed her number, or treated Rebecca the say she did (hide spoiler)].

Okay, so I finally read Halle's bio and I got all excited because I saw that she had a degree in screenwriting from Vancouver Film School. Because I've taught there for 10 years as a screenwriting instructor so I started wondering if I'd taught her. And how cool would that have been? Except VFS doesn't grant degrees and I can't remember her. No biggie, I've taught a lot of students, so I asked the other senior instructors. No one else knows who she is either.

I have no idea why anyone would bother to lie about something like that. But it does make me really curious about if/when/how she was there. I hope she was there. Otherwise, the lie just saddens me.

I am hoping to write up the similarities I see between Fever and this series. It is mainly in terms of the set up and the relationship/characters.

Regina, in response to your Lying Season comments... based on your On Demon's Wings comment, you've finished it right? If so, read this, (view spoiler)[It wasn't so much that I thought she shouldn't have run out and left him, though getting on a motorcycle and driving home in freezing weather after drinking was overreacting I thought, or even that they fought in that moment. I was more saying that she overreacted as a whole. The changing her number, the changing her email address, the whole kit and kaboodle. I just find it hard to believe that the one person in Dex's life who knows him so well, knows exactly what his 'nervous tells' are wouldn't have seen that something deeper was going on, perhaps even after she had gone and calmed down. Make him suffer is one thing, but she took it to a level of crazy. Especially when she hadn't been innocent herself of lying and being underhanded/backhanded or cruel. I also am not sure I think Dex wouldn't have changed at that point if she hadn't left. I read that scene in the basement of the hospital when he asked if she loved him and she lied, and then his reaction after sex, I immiediately thought 'he's trying to protect himself because he thinks he loves someone who doesn't love him back and he's afraid'. I think knowing that Perry DID love him back would have given him enough of a feeling of security that he could finally open up. I think that if Perry had told him the truth in that basement, told him that she was in love with him, everything would have been very different. I'm not making light of his actions, just saying that they both acted cowardly (hide spoiler)].

I would never say that two bad actions would cancel each other out. I'm just saying that when 2 people are acting like shit heads in terrible (sure, differently) ways, how can one be worse than the other. You just wind up with two shitty people. Perry made poor choices, and Dex made poor choices, and reading them was painful for me when it came to the both of them. I was equally sad and frustrated.

And second, yeah, sure the Ramon stuff is rewritten from Dex's POV but I pretty much understood his mindset from the original telling of it. This didn't give me anything new on any level. I'm really starting to believe that if you're going to write a series with the same protagonists, cap it at 5 books.

Into the Hollow and #6.5 explains Dex and Perry's behaviors, mostly - we get inside their heads. It's still painful and I want to knock them both up side their heads. Tellulah - my daughter almost went to VFS, I think. Do they offer a Digital Art degree? That's what she was aiming for and instead chose Henry Cogswell in Everett, which I'm glad she did so she was closer to home and she got SO homesick! She got her degree just in time before that campus closed (they still have their main campus near S.F. I think). Anyway, she had taken a class in screenwriting that she had a lot of fun in :)

After worrying about whether she would even like it. But she did, in both cases. She met her future husband there as well and they both work in that field :D

And With Madness Comes The Light was a "bonus" that Halle threw in IF one of the books (On Demon Wings?) got to the finals in the GR 2012 something - probably horror category. So, I looked at it as a bonus. And after awhile, seeing things from both POVs (Perry's and then Dex's) does seem to repeat. I just can't get enough, though.

My "hate" thing... I have a love-hate with Lying Season, because Perry (view spoiler)[is getting so strong and so confident, and then WHAM! It all goes out the door. Sure, a lot of it is due to her own choices, but it was sad. (hide spoiler)] And then On Demon Wings (view spoiler)[, I hate it because of all that Perry has to go through... all the biting my nails and being on pins-and-needles until things start to resolve, which isn't until the last 1/4th of the book. I hated seeing her go through those changes, because of Abby's possession and the demon's possession. I hated Max. I hated Perry's parents. I hated that Dex wasn't around until the end. But I has so happy when Ada called him! (hide spoiler)] So... my "hate" is just how not liking how I felt as I was reading or what was happening. LOL - I'm hooked on these books and Dex & Perry! I can't ever really hate the books - gave them 4 & 5 star ratings.

Yeah, I can be almost as emo as Perry when I read these books - LOL!

I was really disappointed in With the Madness too, (view spoiler)[sooo much of it felt like filler that we already know. I enjoyed the beginning, watching his downfall but from the phonecall on I did a lot of skimming (hide spoiler)].

Into the Hollow, (view spoiler)[I was sooooo mad at Perry throughout the whole thing. I think I did a lot of bitching to poor Leea about it because I just wanted to kick her ass. When Dex said that at least he hurt her unintentionally, whereas Perry knew exactly how he felt because he wasn't holding out and still she was doing everything she could to break him. I was SO glad when she started to realize that she wasn't innocent in the history, and that he wasn't the only one who had made decisions that brought them to where they were. And that she was choosing to bring on more pain because of her actions. I also loved when she had the realization that no matter how shitty she treated Dex he always forgave her and wished that she was as strong as he was. And then of course, I loved when she finally went to him in the end. I'm soooo hopeful that we'll finally get a good book in the next one, with the both of them just really attempting to give it a try.

Her parents... I think they acted exactly as I expected they would. It's not as if they've ever made it a habit of supporting or backing up their daughter. They have a history of 'lock them up', lol. I wasn't surprised at all that they took Max's side. I was bummed that Max turned out to be such a god damned bastard though. I can't wait to find out his story (hide spoiler)].

I'm still mad about what he did but his POV makes it a little better.

The Dex Files - It was very enlightening to see things thru Dex's eyes. I really liked it.

Into the Hollow (view spoiler)[ I was really angry at Perry too, Wendy, especially after Dex spills his heart out to her and she practically shredded it to teeny pieces, even though she really does love him, just in denial, trying to hurt herself, I guess. Arrgghh!! Dex has matured so much and I'm so proud of him. I can't even remember why I wanted to slap him, maybe it was just in the previous books and not in this one...it's a blur... I was also getting mad at the author, thinking, "oh no, you don't!" don't drag this anger/angsty thing thru yet another book! But got relief soon, whew! But will it last? LOL

The parents - what made me angry with them was that they still treat Perry like a kid and that she wasn't free to move out if she wanted to. Come on. (hide spoiler)]

Hahahaha, in Dex-Files (view spoiler)[I loooooved how horny she made him! I loved how he thought and acted like I think a guy his age would act. In the same sentence he would think of how good she made him feel and how bad he wanted to bone her. It really gave him his own unique personality in my head.

After his POV I just felt even more sad for him. It really made me understand just how effed up his mom and dad made him. Then to lose Pippa on top of that. Other than Pippa he really hadn't known any love until Abby, and that went so south and ended so tragically that for him love was only negative. And it made so much sense to me that he was so afraid. I think it was realistic. If he had just been able to get over it, or man up' it wouldn't have been the honest reaction. These were deeply ingrained emotional problems that he had, and it was amazing that he'd come so far as he had and opened himself up to her as much as he did. especially when the topic of their relationship would come up Perry would always make light of it and act like it was no big deal. It really sucks that the both of them had shitty parents and neither knew how to be strong and aggressive in their love. If just one of them was self-confident it may have been a very different story.

Max... grumble grumble... rogue guide, I say. Baaaaad mammer-jammer, with his gross fleshy lips. Did it gross anyone else out when Halle would write about Max and Perry kissing or getting physical and she would say "Perry could feel his thick fleshy lips"? Ew... (hide spoiler)].

Oh man, yes! (view spoiler)[That scene, when they finally make love and he tells her he loves hre and she's just AWFUL.. it was so hard to read! I wanted to toss my Kindle. I was soooo mad at her. See, the thing is in the heat of intense emotion we ALL say hurtful things. I know I've done it to my husband, he's done it to me. You apologize and you forgive. So to me, the way she treated him in Into the Hollow was just beyond cruel. She was SO much meaner than he was, and she was doing it on purpose. On top of that, look at everything he'd done for her. We won't even get into the tattoo and the remaking his life to be worthy of her, but just the things she knows about. The leaving Seattle and rushing to her aid, 'kidnapping' her and rushing her to get the excorcism, finding her in the thin veil despite the risk to his own life, holding her, laying by her, then getting arrested for it! And even then she treated him TERRIBLE. I'm not saying that women should immediately fall back into a guys arms when they do something nice but for Pete's sake, he at least deserved forgivness. And despite what she said, she didnt' give it until the end.

And the parents, not to stick up for them but Perry allowed them to treat her that way. The moment that sticks out in my mind is when they found out she lost her advertising job and told her that she 'was nto allowed to do EiT anymore' and Perry acted like this was okay! When Dex told her to grow up and handle her parents I applauded. At 22 years old there is absolutely no reason she should be allowing them to dictate what job she has (hide spoiler)].

On Demon Wings (view spoiler)[ LOL Wendy!! Why are fleshy lips on guys gross when many women are getting injections to make their lips like Jolie-plump? "plumping" I keep thinking of Foster chickens on TV hahaha! But I know what you mean. It cracked me up though. About those parents. I agree with you Wendy and I'm not sure if I already said this but parents and grown kids can tend to fall back on patterns where they treat the grown kids like kids and the grown kids act like kids. Those stupid dynamics! It's a hard one to break. But yeah, Dex nailed it by telling Perry that. That was the other thing that got me - their belittling Perry's EiT job. HEY, she's working at least! I would've been thrilled for my grown kid and supportive. Geez.

What I really loved about the last 1/4 of this book was that Dex got to be a hero. He's never had that. Well, except for the other times he saved Perry's life but this one was huge, IMO. Like superhero size. Dex and Perry are so insecure, that they need major self-esteem injections. (hide spoiler)]
