message 1: by Liz (new)

Liz I like being a part of this group since I enjoy the book picks and occasionally browse the discussions. However, I have turned off ALL messaging that I can find and I still get messages from this group, asking me to vote on a poll or telling me which books we're getting etc. Does anyone else have this problem?

I prefer to save my Goodreads inbox for my personal friends and correspondence and view these messages as Spam. I come to this page when I want to, and hate getting these mailings. Does anyone know how I can stop them, or can the moderator please stop it? I don't want to leave if I can help it because of the aforementioned reasons, but it will help to know a way to stop getting them!

Paul Yes, I have the same issue and I can't figure out why this is continuing considering the fact that I've also turned off such notifications.

message 3: by carol. (new)

carol. Did you just recently turn the settings off? I'm wondering if some notifications have been re-set.

message 4: by Mark (new)

Mark goodreads have added some new functions so this could have messed up other things.

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments As moderator, I send out announcements to all group members to announce nominations and polls. Sorry, but there doesn't seem to be any way to only send out messages to some group members. If you're that annoyed, you can always leave the group. Recheck your settings. Perhaps there's something you can change.

GR sends the book of a month reminders rather than the actual group. I just delete any I don't want to read.

carol. But from your profile page, you should be able to pick and choose which you receive, and the frequency (daily, weekly, none).

That's why specific thread titles are so helpful, because i usually receive notification of new threads.

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Yes, Carol, you can choose on your account profile to receive no notifications at all. I did not, however, find a choice to close off private messages sent to your inbox, which is essentially what my notifications of group activities are. Since I only send out two of these a month (or three if we have a runoff) I wouldn't think that's excessive. I get these from all book clubs I belong to that choose a monthly book to read. I just delete them if I'm not interested. I hardly consider them spam. If I belong to a book club, I'm interested in their activities and appreciate being notified. If not, then I leave the group.

Weenie | 37 comments Being a member of various groups, the number of notifications used to annoy me but like Sandra says, I just delete the ones I'm not interested in. I also recently left a few groups, to further cut down the messages.

Sandra (sleo) | 1913 comments Okay, I just investigated my account settings, and under 'settings' there is a choice for who can send you private messages. If you select' just my friends' you will no longer get messages from this or any group.

message 11: by Paul (new)

Paul It's not that I don't want the messages -- I don't need them. I'm on GR almost every day so I see whatever is posted in different groups anyway. Thanks for the tip about the private messages.

message 12: by K.A. (new)

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) Is there something else going on with this group? Every time I click on the Fantasy Book Club button lately, I have to re-verify my password. I don't have to do that with any of the other groups I'm a member of. Maybe it's a glitch on my end? It just started happening recently...anybody else have this problem?

message 13: by carol. (new)

carol. In my experience, every morning when I first check GR messages, the first message states "wait while we log you in." I don't have to enter anything because my browser uses my prior password, but I do get that message every am.

It might be because I made the group private during voting, but I don't know. I don't have to do this. Or it might be what Carol said.

K.A. Krisko (kakrisko) I'm not complaining, I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this issue. It's not the first group I look at, usually, so it's not that. It may very well be a glitch on my end. It's not that big a deal.
