Soo (silverlyn) | 19 comments Has the way series links appear changed?
Does the Series part in the Manual need an update?

I noticed something when I went to look up a book that I'm thinking about reading.

Iced (Fever #6; Dani O'Malley #1) by Karen Marie Moning is 1st in Dani O'Malley Series and 6th in Fever Series.

Before: I could choose what series information I want to look at. For this title, the link directs me to the Fever Series. Usually, there's a link for both series.

Now: I only have one option and it goes directly to Fever series.

This is not the only series I've noticed the problem. Some titles in series don't show up as what number they are in a series on the book page but you can see where it is on the series page.

Can someone tell me how to adjust the links?
I would like to learn how to fix this type of problem and correct it when I come across it.

Please let me know how to fix the issue. I like learning. =)

Once you do, I'll start with the Fever and Dani O'Malley series.

Thanks!

Empress (the_empress) There is no issue. I see both links on the books page.

seriesFever #6, Dani O'Malley Trilogy #1

This happens if the series are not numbered. They might be, but a sequence need to be inserted. You can do it from the edit page of the series. Click the series and then the edit link just below the name/description.

Edit: I don't see any issue with the naming and numbering of the series.

Don't do this:
1. Find a new book in the series.
2. Open its edit page, scroll down to series, and click add.
3. Put in the same series name.
4. Save the series.

Soo (silverlyn) | 19 comments On the book page for Iced:
http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12...

It says: Iced (Fever #6)
Not: Iced (Fever #6, Dani O'Malley #1)

It should show both and I should be able to click on EITHER series. I can't. The option is not available.

On the Edit Page for the book, I see that the book is on two series lists. This fact is not shown on the actual Book Page. It only shows up on the Series Pages.

(I am guessing that something has changed in the process because I have not had this problem before.)

FOR EXAMPLE:
If I click on Iced from the Dani O'Malley Series Page, it goes to the Book Page. The Book Page does not list 2 series titles. It only lists Fever.

Empress (the_empress) No they should not. This is entered in the title. It is not a link to the series. What wold be the point of you seeing the series and then seeing a link to the same page?

I don't think there was EVER links IN THE series FOR the series. It is available on the books page AND ON SHELVES, but you cannot click it there.

Example:
My shelf with series: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/...

No all have links because they haven't been edited

In the series:
http://www.goodreads.com/series/49456...
http://www.goodreads.com/series/50447...
No links. Never was I think. I might be wrong of course.

Rinou | 101 comments In the details in the book page, both the series are there with the links to the series:

ISBN 0385344406 (ISBN13: 9780385344401)
edition language English
original title Iced
series Fever #6, Dani O'Malley Trilogy #1

She is confusing part of the title for a link to the series.

Soo (silverlyn) | 19 comments Right.

My Questions

1) Why doesn't the book have TWO links? One link to each series that it is a part of.

2) Can I help to fix the link issue?

3) If yes, how do I fix the links?

1. THE BOOK HAS TWO links! Just not where you think. What you see is part of the title. When you go in edit page you will see title: Iced (Fever #6, Dani O'Malley #1) (DO NOT EDIT!)
This is not a link. THERE IS NO ISSUE. The links are available on the books page!

2. DO not fix anything!

3. It's a no!

Empress (the_empress) I'm gonna post a screenshot in a second.

This is the same: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...
I'm not sure it is possible to have two links in the title.

That is one thing I was wondering about, but decided to leave it like this. Thank you for pointing it out. Fixed the other two as well.

It is not. For books in more than one series, you need to look at the "more details" section.

I cannot find that information in the Librarian manual. Can someone point it out to me, please?

Deon (deonva) | 3718 comments it would appear it has been removed from the manual. I copied it from the manual. & others have quoted the very same thing

Thanks. Does anyone know if that is no longer the policy? By that I mean the way the multiple series are put into the titles?

Multiple sets of parentheses on the title line cause some display issues in several places, so we no longer encourage that.

Thank you. Will in that case the following format be more correct or should we stick to one series name in title:

Title (series-one, #X; series-two, #Z)

Personally, I put only the first series on the title line (if any), but the other option is fine as well. Keeping in mind that in many places, the information will not be visible.

Thank you. I think I will stick to one series per title as well.

I like seeing the series on the shelves and that is happening only if they are listed in the title.
