Jack (jack_) | 564 comments RaR's are a great way for authors to advertise and get their book out there. A Read and Review is when an author agrees to send a certain number of copies of their book (ebooks, paperback) to other members of the group in exchange for a full, honest review. Reviews must be posted on goodreads, but it would be great to see them posted on other websites to, such as Amazon, to help out our authors!

Rules

- Reviews MUST be posted within 21 days of the book being sent.
- Revies MUST be posted on Goodreads, but can also be posted on other book review sites (Amazon, your Blog etc.)
- A link to your review MUST be posted in the appropriate thread.
- Any books you receive for an RaR must NEVER be shared without the author's consent.
- Please write honest reviews, but be constructive. NO tolerance will be made for MEAN or HATEFUL comments.

If any of these rules are broken in any way, that member will be BANNED and REPORTED. There will be no exceptions. Rules MUST be followed and that's that.

I hope you all enjoy this feature. We are doing a trial for the moment, but if it works out RaR's might be a permanent thing.

Your Mods,
Lilac & Jack

Ali | 24 comments Fabulous idea... kind of wish mine was ready! :D

Love reading and reviewing for people... gives reading a purpose as well as being amazing in itself :D

message 3: by Jack (new)

Jack (jack_) | 564 comments Well, hopefully the trial will go well, and you can sign up one day Ali! A couple of other groups were doing this, and it's a great way to help out authors (especially indie), so we thought we'd give it a try.

message 4: by Jamie Lee (new)

Jamie Lee Sounds like an amazing idea! I'll sign up as soon as you have it set up :)

message 5: by Jack (new)

Jack (jack_) | 564 comments Great Jamie Lee!

Alison Morquecho (thebookishcamper) | 525 comments So I just signed up for RAR The moon dwellers and I am very excited! But I was wondering if I could see an example of a good review. I never really review books but am excited to start. I just don't want to mess up.

message 7: by Jack (new)

Jack (jack_) | 564 comments Just take a look at some reviews on book pages on goodreads, glad you signed up. :)

Kelly Hull (kellyvan) | 50 comments Just joined this group and I love it already. Can't wait to just start talking books soon. Too bad the business side of me says I have to plug the book too. I do think I went to the folders for that. Thanks!

When I do reviews, I don't make a big deal out of it. I just say what I liked, what I didn't and try to be as kind as possible. Obviously, not everyone adheres to that, but that's what I do.

Riya **NEW RULE**

To do a RaR you must have already written at least 5 reviews on Goodreads.

message 12: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (bigbangbookgeek) | 18 comments Where do I post the link to my (very late) review?

message 13: by Riya (new)

Riya Just post it under the RaR thread for the specific book you read.

message 14: by chucklesthescot (new)

chucklesthescot I really need to find a way of reading a high volume of pdf files on my computer or I'm seriously going to miss out on a lot of great free reads!!! Oh I wish I had a laptop that I could just transport upstairs with me. Life would be so much easier...but budgets will not allow for such luxuries!

message 15: by Kayla (new)

Kayla De Leon (kayladeleon) I have an iPhone and there are a couple of reader apps that let's you read PDF files on them.

I don't have any Iphones, Ipads, anything like that....but I'm giving in to the inevitable and joining the real world by getting a Kobo on my birthday in 3 weeks!

Kayla De Leon (kayladeleon) Chuckles, AWESOME!! I demand pictures and a name!

Judith (goodreadscomjudif) | 6 comments Just finish reading a review copy of "A Shade of Vampire" While I found some great moments in it, I felt it needed more detail to flesh it out. Those of you who are looking for a vampire romance should read this one. The end leaves you wanting to read the sequel.

Hi Judith, is this for an RaR? This is the thread for the RaR rules.

message 20: by Judith (new)

Judith (goodreadscomjudif) | 6 comments Truthfully I don't remember whether I got a prereview copy through RaR or if it was one the regular giveways. It clearly is a YA book. The PDF was 89 pages and the paperback is listed as 149.

Well, in the future, please refrain from posting reviews on the rules thread. Thank you and hope to see more of you at YADBC!

Paulina (The Little Book Pixie) (victoriayork) Can we sign up to more than one review at a time?

message 23: by Riya (new)

Riya Preferably you only sign up for one, but I can always add you to the list to reserve you a copy, but just establish that you won't get it till you finish your other review.

Paulina (The Little Book Pixie) (victoriayork) Great thanks!

message 25: by Riya (new)

Riya No problem!

Out of curiosity, what qualifies as a "review"? Because my reviews... aren't really reviews.

Well a review is different for everyone, but after checking the reviews you've already posted, you could essentially keep your same format, but then explain each aspect of the score you gave with 2 or more sentences per category- so you end up with around at least 10 sentences of solid explanation on what you liked and disliked. It doesn't have to be super intense, but it should give future readers a perspective on what specifically led to your opinions of the book.

message 28: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 203 comments Ok, thanks.

message 29: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 203 comments I've done 5 quick reviews (Blood Red Road, Rebel Heart, The Rule of Three, Unwind, UnSouled). Do they qualify as reviews? lol
I just want to know in case I want to do any RaRs later.

message 30: by Riya (new)

Riya Those are all great! I hope you sign up for some then :)

message 31: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Douglas | 1 comments I would love to find somebody interested in giving an honest review of 'The Alternates' which is available on Kindle, which is a here and now science fiction novel.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alternates-Ch...
but i can send copies on request

message 32: by v.v (new)

v.v | 442 comments Christopher if you want to get some reviews you could post it on the RaR sign up page and I can create a thread for you.

message 33: by Karleigh (new)

Karleigh (karleighreads) What happens if you just can't get into a book you requested. I have one I requested and I just don't like it.

message 34: by v.v (new)

v.v | 442 comments Try to finish the book or get as far as you can. With what you did finish write out a review for the author so you did complete the RaR. Hope that helps :)

message 35: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Phipps (authormaphipps) This is a great idea and will be so helpful to new/unknown authors who have very little reach or audience. I've signed up in the other thread and looking forward to hopefully being reviewed!

message 36: by Braedan (new)

Braedan Lalor | 7 comments Lila and Jack — in the immortal words from Jerry McGuire 'you had me at review'. How do I go about presenting my novels for review? Here's a snippet from a Reader's Favorite review to give incentive "The Fatherless is faster paced and, dare I say, grittier than The Hunger Games ... can’t wait for the sequel to see how far Lalor will push the boundaries of the world he’s created. This is a thrilling read for fans of dystopian Young Adult stories."
