Right! Especially those Dell Mapback covers look real pretty with some chocolaty glitter. *ducks in case Scotland is listening*

I'm currently drawing Elliot & Tucker, and we have 20 coloring sheets ready already, so yes, it's looking promising right now. :-)

Yes dear, I'm afraid you're gonna have to take up coloring in the near future... ;-)

Johanna's work is wonderful.

I think we are uncertain about who came up with the actual idea for the coloring book! :-D But during the most stressful period of moving, Johanna gifted me with coloring books--and then for fun she shared a coloring sheet she had done from one of my stories.

Is that correct, Johanna? (Because that was a crazy time in my life and I admit I am a little vague on the details!) What was the first sheet you did?

Anyway, I loved the sheets and I wanted to use them for the Christmas codas this year. And then I think we sort of batted the idea of a coloring book back and forth because...those coloring books she sent were so incredibly relaxing, so I knew first hand how therapeutic the books could be.

I've been using the crayons I bought the kidlings for their sleepovers. There are a lot of boxes of crayons here--I kept getting more and more DELUXE with the color assortments. :-D So I have a lot of colors to choose from!

Yep, that's pretty much how it went. :-) Well, we both think the actual idea of the JL coloring book came from the other one. :-D But yeah, I did get excited about the grown-up coloring books, bought a pile for myself and gifted them also for a few friends (Josh included). Then at some point I just thought that why don't I make a few coloring pics of Josh's stories... Something that I'd enjoy coloring myself.

Come Unto These Yellow Sands was the first one and after that I made one for Baby, it's Cold. I shared them one by one with Josh and I *think* we started toying with the idea of a Josh Lanyon coloring book the first time already at that point. But because this was sometime last spring, Josh was extremely busy moving and we didn't actually DO anything to make it happen then. Except that I decided to continue by making one more coloring sheet for Winter Kill launch party — just for fun.

By that time I was pretty much hooked to drawing these coloring pics and I wanted to make also one for Lone Star... and one for Stranger on The Shore... and one more for The Boy With the Painful Tattoo... :-D Anyway, I think you guys get the picture. :-)

It was summer by then and Josh had started to plan what to include in the UK Meet flash drive (given to all the attendees there). And for some reason she remembered the coloring pics and thought that it might be fun to share those with the UK Meet attendees and maybe even to use them for the Holiday Codas... Hmmm. :-) I promised to finish the ones I had lying around half finished and yes, I think that was when we really started to get excited about the idea of an actual coloring book.

Which is, without a doubt, one of the coolest projects I've ever been in — and I've been in many cool art projects in my life. :-) You guys all know how incredibly supportive and awesome Josh is, so I've also had THE BEST cheerleader EVER by my side. :-) And all her stories that are wonderful and so near to my heart as inspiration. And that means a lot of re-reading and re-listening Josh Lanyon. See — best project ever! :-D

Don't forget to use periwinkle. I LOVE those crayon names for colors. :-)

Hm, having a daughter of a certain age my first association while reading periwinkle is “Tinker Bell's twin sister“! :-))

I'll let Josh answer this — she's the boss when it comes to publishing. In fact, she's the boss. Period.

At least it'll be available in print.

Susinok | 5205 comments When looking over my crayola box from my childhood, I apparently used metallics more than any other color, plus green. Gotta have my green!

For the rest I probably spread out my coloring, so the other crayons are mostly evenly worn down.

In my paint box, I used red, yellow, and blue the most. My artist friend looked at that and called me "primary girl." Though most likely I mixed my own colors.

Omg, that Scottish whodunnit sounds fantastic!!!!!

And the coloring book! I love those! I went and bought really nice colored pencils for mine so I could do very detailed work. I will say though, that my favorite coloring books, of the three that I have, are single-sided and perforated for easy coloring and sharing!

Pencils are perfect. The crayons have more variety of colors, but the tips get thick too fast.

Yep, single-sided is important. The Joanna Basford colourig books are printed on both sides which means you can not use pens that print through. Anything water or alcohol based is a no go, unfortunately.

The way we're planning it, there will be excerpts on the back of pictures, so that any bleed through will not ruin the next picture for coloring. That would be too disappointing.
